| Indeed, Ayukawa remembers Aono, but is through his and Akine's middle school teacher Takeda-sensei. The audition begins, and everyone feels nerves of intense as Ayukawa helms the test, one person at a time, with the 3rd years faced to the back so as to not create any favoritism and bias to judge fairly. Soon, it's Aono's turn, and despite Ayukawa looking like his late father, he's not pulling any strings to deliver his very best, more than giving everyone goosebumps, that pushes Ayukawa to test his mantle, to the point of following his tempo and conducting. With the strings audition over, there are still other areas to be conducted for the final results, but it seems like Ayukawa already has his mind set on the seating arrangement without any hesitation, because his seat is placed right at the front of the second row, just beside Harada and surrounding other Senpais. As for Akine, she...did not make it, but she can always try again, because this is not the "be all, end all" results. With Hatori and Aono facing Ayukawa about the post-results, he exposes Hatori's sense of recklessness in his words and chides him for his attendance in the Orchestra Club. The latter with Aono, it's clear that Aono is given the priority over Saeki, but his performance is still far from ideal: a solo sound against an orchestra. Speaking with the past in mind, Aono does not know why, but Ayukawa is seriously wanting to make him a concert master, following the paths of Hatori and Harada, though his fight with Saeki still stands, but that the latter was sick, that's why he couldn't attend the auditions. The ultimate test: Aono vs. Saeki, in becoming Umikaku's next concert master. Intense episode as we head to the 2nd half. |

| I loved when the director started conducting to Aono's performance! (*꒦ິ꒳꒦ີ) It will be interesting to see how Aono works on becoming part of the orchestra better! |

| Gutted that Akine couldn't make it, but kinda saw it coming. She has a great mentality, this girl will surely bounce back and stronger. Not sure how I feel about the rivalry they tryna create between Aono and Saeki. |
| One of the better episodes of the series so far, if not the best, due to Yasuhiro Irie storyboarding this episode (also did OnK Ep. 7 this season). I didn't like Ayukawa at first, but I suppose he's not half bad after all, at least he has something to his character other than just being strict and frowning all the time. Good challenges for Aono lie ahead as we head into the second cour. |
| great chapter, aono performance was awesome and everybody was in the palm of his hand. but he won only because saeki had a little fever so the victory feels shallow and everything that ayukawa-sensei said is true, he performed a solo and an orchesta is another world. Still ayukawa just told him straight that saeki or him will be the leader in the future just like that, the bar is high now. |

| Good to know that Saeki wasn't shafted and there was more to it. Hajime better up his gear, face his past and use it to improve his current self cause if he's not at his best Saeki will probably win the next one. That said Hajime's performance was great, even sensei started conducting. Too bad Akine didn't make it but it's hardly surprising. Also I wonder what's up with Hattori, interested to know more about his character. Hime senpai was cute btw. |

| This episode is all about the teacher busting Aono's balls to push him forward. That's what Saeki gets for not listening to his grandma. |
