How come they butcher the ending?
This was a truly terrible ending to this story.

Fena was forced to make every choice. Never having a will of her own. So at no point were we following Fena’s journey.Just a spiritual being that ordered her to lose everything. Because reasons.

We never followed “her journey, free of oppression”, like the Summary for this story states.

We followed a girl forced to make choices in the Matrix.

God damn I hope we never get an ending this Terrible ever again!!!

Agreed. Halfway through the season this "magical destiny" crap sucked the freedom out of the plot and forced Fena into this "chosen maiden" role garbage.

It was especially offensive when they showed her mother's backstory. Her entire "role" of having a child to a king just because "La Pucelle must be born to a king", and then just dying after her role was over! They were all puppets to that shapeshifter brat! If he really wanted to reset humanity stop dragging innocent people into a convoluted scheme to force them to make that choice against their will

And then when they're finally led to this "Eden" (which we had no idea why we had to go there in the first place) Fena's forced to choose the fate of humanity and then have her memories wiped no matter what choice she makes! Such an unfair deal.

Really guys can't they extend 4 or 6 more episode.... They really have to cram everything in 12 episodes?

With that pacing ... 1-2 episodes ago it was clear there won't be a good ending. (At least from the previous episode.) Was more disappointing than expected though. Not even a big end fight. Just boring talk.

Several things that makes me disappointed:

1. What's with Kei? I thought that he will hunt down the crews and caused a big rift between the crews and Fena. Everybody said that they really afraid of him but where is the scary aura? He only showed up in a brief second when Shitan handed him a Sword which is not shown to the viewers since eps 11 until the end.

2. Is it just me or I think that her mother never truly care about Fena? I mean I thought that they both will going to have a warm and emotional mother-daughter reunion in eps 11 but after she sent Abel to wherever place she wanted to,she just disappeared and said that Fena will be alright?! I mean what?! She should've explain what is going on and why Fena must do all of this so suddenly.

3. In the end, is Fena chose to leave things to whatever it'll be? She chose to be together with the crews until they all die? If that's so then whoa it's kinda dark ._. As a side effect of choosing one of that, whatever decision she'll made, she will lost her memories? It's kind of a bittersweet and dark ending. After all that she's been through, all the journey she made with the crews, and all dangers she must face (kidnapped by Abel and Rumble Rose crews and never show any progress for her self defense practice). Yeah, despite all of the training, that pocket knife Yukimaru gave her in eps 2 was never used and that's disappointing too. But then, Yukimaru gave a same type of pocket knife again in the last credit scene ._.
And eventually in the end, they will all going to die in their journey? Oh dear...

4. Where's the cute little dog, Brule :(. Did he survived?

After watching the final episode, I feel like the author was trying to go the cycle of "Abel searching for Helena".
Yukimaru = Abel , Fena = Helena. But then the final decision was to give everyone a happy ending.

You are right. I liked the anime but we should all agree that the ending was garbage.

Exact reason it felt way off, like giving fena everything just to say "ohhh your fate is decided but i will give you choice friends or no friends" and obvious plot holes kicks in, she did reset the world where we see all those pirate chicks alive and kicking and fena lost all memories and travelling again so she is now gonna be a real person, like you seeing this bs, these very deep anime clusterfuck is just insane sometimes.
2025 might be the year where I will be happy. This year is not happy year.

I was like... What the h*ll did I just watch? They skipped and rushed through the whole story... I felt like I had the memory loss instead of Fena. What a crappy ending. It could have been a really good anime, it had potential at first. Really disappointed.

The moment they started mixing up biblical references, la pucelle, ancient legends and whatnot, it was entirely expected to end with nonsense and plot holes all over like this. If they did not choose to go with the fantasy/magical route, they would probably have introduced aliens or something.

It's a wish fulfillment shoujo adventure, simple as that. Everything doesn't matter or have impact because what matters is Fena and Yukimaru confessing to each other their "eternal and immaculate love" that can cheat even destiny godly punishment (Yeah she had her memories back).

This is literally damsel in distress type of show, Fena is a terrible protagonist that had accomplished nothing on her own, or even had any character development because she was babysitted the whole anime or was possessed. And it doesn't matter because everyone loves her so who cares right?

Zero tension, the party is so OP that we know they won't lose a fight ever. Why bother trying to show us a puzzle mystery when Fena can just autobot the whole journey. Why give a final decision that will change the world when you didn't develop your main character and her final decision has no consequence, because you know, love always win.

As a comedy slice of life it's an enjoyable show, as a mystery plot and anything else? it's really bad. Production values carried this, that's it.

The show started off so well that I'm a bit disappointed that the final episode was an ass-pull infodump and a Mass Effect 3 choose-your-ending moment. This show deserved a second season and a better written conclusion.

it was beautiful. it was fun. it was interesting. annnnd then the finale blows it all to hell in a handbasket.

kinda reminds me of those 12 ep. pump and dump shows that are merely made to promote the sales of source materials... manga etc.

finale 1 for that type of show? the. show. just. stops. period. no plotlines are solved. no conclusions are reached. no confessions are made. no 'waifu' is chosen amongst the harem. no 'husbando' gets the nod. nobody wins the 'tournament'. the show is over... annnnd guess what? you've gotta read the source to find out "The Rest of The Story." this finale often happens when the source is still going forwards and is SERIOUSLY way way ahead of the show.

finale 2? anime original. the screenwriters pull something outta their butts and make it up from cloud castles in the sky. if you're lucky, the source artist/author had some say in this type of finale. if you're not? you'll read the source and curse the anime till your dying day. these endings don't often go well, because 9 times outta 10 they're forced all to hell. and often make no sense what-so-ever.

finale 3? these are real sourced endings. and rarer than hens' dentures. usually these sources are short. because trying to put a weekly manga of 2 years in length into 12 eps is hard! or a 3 year long monthly. or if they're long... like a series of light novels that has gone on for years! the anime screenwriters have hacked the source into tiny bite-sized pieces and you lose a GREAT DEAL of content getting to this finale. but it is a sourced finale, no matter how contrived it seems to anime-only-fans.

Fena's finale... seemed to me to be a type 2 finale. the screenwriters pulled something outta their collective butts... and this time it was a stinky poo. not a golden shiny sparkly jewel encrusted artifact for the ages.

this to me is one of the problems with an entirely all original anime story. the big idea is good. the big idea seems to work. the devil's in the details and gdamn Japan's anime screenwriters, i'd guess! are spoiled by making nothing but adaptations of already existing books etc.

say you have Sensei A. and he's written a slam-dunk, selling like Viagra to middle-aged men with trophy wives, series of 'books'... whatever flavor of book it is. so, Sensei A has a whole SLEW of editors, agents, publishers' reps, fanboy/girl readers of their web-content and commenting all over the place, copywriters, fact-checkers, research assistants, art assistants, manga artists/light novel illustrators... a literal bevvy of folks out to polish Sensei A's work.

you as an anime screenwriter are handed Sensei A's work and it's a diamond. your job, is to re-cut that diamond into a necklace of individual jewels. guess what? a great deal of your work has already been done for you! character names? done! character associations? done! characterizations, the bits and pieces of each character? done! worldbuilding? done! you just have to pick and choose what parts of Sensei A's work will make it up onto the screen in a 24 minute format.

then you've got a show like Fena and the screenwriters gotta make it all up themselves.

shrug. but that's just this guy's opinion. :)

I would be happy if they just had Eden be some forbidden place of granting wishes, but at a price (of life, eternal soul damnation, memories, sanity etc.). Fena could have said 'well, screw you, we're outta here'. Then we'd get a bittersweet ending of 'perhaps the real treasure were the friends we've made all along'. Yukimaru confesses. A simple ending of this sort would suit the story much better.
