THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
We see the wider media feedback on the battle, trying to deconstruct the GR1's abilities, Japanese officials discussing their claim to GR1, discussing any bias from UNISOM with its American collaborations, BFN being put under the microscope by other news outlets and whether they too have any true neutrality, etc. The BFN higher ups are tampering with the releasing footage about Daisaku still being alive meanwhile, so their "uncensored information" motto is already being losing credibility.

Daisaku being heavily guarded despite his apparent immortality so the enemy doesn't find him, V is an "interpreter", special humanoid artificially made (?) to be able to let GRs awaken. The GRO guy is at odds with the higher ups' order to take the GR1 in in good condition instead of destroying it.

V's message to Daisaku now reading not just as a reaffirmation of Daisaku's self-control, but seems to be a lamentation on her own lack of freedom perhaps as the interpreter. Daisaku hearing some words from his mom from McKenzie before he goes off to the US, and sharing how he feels anxiety when piloting a GR in contrast to Texas saying he feels all powerful - the heavy feeling of responsibility weighing on Daisaku now.

Daisaku's conflict with his mom is feeling that his mom doesn't see him for him, and she only sees his dead father through Daisaku now, Daisaku I guess losing his individuality and having a strained relationship of weird coddling and his mom being stuck in the past, just reminding her of her loss now, so it seems like a messy dynamic. McKenzie laying a kiss on him as his step into adulthood and for an outsider and another woman seeing Daisaku for who he truly is.

They head to Nevada and McKenzie doesn't know what Burning Man is I guess lol. They arrive at the facility and find a GR1 clone or something, similar mold.

Nice episode, contributes to the heavily politicized nature of the story in its framework, building a bit more intrigue for UNISOM, BFN and V's roots and how their roles might have a big part later, while we have more macro bits about Daisaku struggling with being recognized for who he is, still want to see something more personalized and specific about his background hopefully, feels more like an idea than a quite lived in person; an interesting idea of course, but still want to make that real, specific connection.

Starting to see now why V telling Daisaku "you will still be you" resonated with him so much. He clearly feels some angst over his mother projecting the visage of his deceased father onto him, and thus he has some attachment to the idea of still being oneself, rather than a reflection of someone else. Given how he's currently being employed as a geopolitical tool with highly dubious consent in the matter, no wonder the subject keeps rearing its head.

I knew Alex was going to try something with him when she called him out from the room, but I didn't expect that. Lucky guy.
