I would say it helps it.

Those who pirate would not pay for it anyway.

However thanks to piracy they watch and then spam forums about it. Word spreads and more and more people get involved into anime.

Ironically enough it helps profits. After all once it is done it is done, all money is already spent, from there it is only profit racking.

Definitely, you'd be crazy to say otherwise. Where did you watch your first Anime? I would assume that it was pirated. Sure, nowadays its easier to watch Anime (Just get a Crunchyroll subscription) but before that even Crunchyroll had to pirate their Anime because it was simply just not marketed to the international community (excluding Animes like Dragon Ball).

Nowadays id say it still helps, just not as much.

They aren't killing it but surely the industry isn't directly benefiting from them.

Half the problem of piracy is ease of access, piracy on PC for games has gone way down cause there is very little reason not to buy games on steam. Anime is more specialized, with things like censored and uncensored versions, dub or sub, changing the wording or words used in sentence when watching subs that subtly or extremely change the meaning and tone of dialogue and scenes, the fact most anime producers (as in the money people more than the animation studio itself) still only Otakus buy their stuff in threes which is only slightly being toned down by western licensors. Anime being caught in the crossover of the anime version of the Streaming wars doesn't help; Crunchyroll and FUNimation are both under Sony, Netflix both buys and produces anime, Hi-Dive is still there and there are specialist anime sites that do stuff like only show 80s and 90s anime (I sadly have forgotten the sites name) and now that Netflix's anime has threatened their animation dominance, even Disney is developing and buying their anime. I pirate, but support where I can (I buy manga and have a Viz shounen jump subscription), mainly cause its easier than having to check a forum post about where they put all the shows I want to watch. Not to mention the old preservation argument that Video games also have t deal with; other than hardcore fans how many people want to watch  Gegege no Kitarou (1968), probably not enough for it ti be profitable to print onto Blu-rays and DVDs and if putting it on Netflix or something leads to first time phils (dropping a show after the first episode) then its just taking up space where a more popular (and theoretically more profitable) series could be. I feel like piracy is a watchdog, if the industry fuck around too much they'll find out; anime fans can always just pirate a work, find out who worked on it and find ways to support them directly, but sadly, only time will who (if any) of us in this forum are correct.

In what way can piracy help the people making something. Sure more people watch it they watch it for free and the people making it recieve nothing in return.

I don't think it effect much both in positive or negetive way. Most of anime shows are actually TV shows which actually airs on Japanese TV channels and most of the times they don't care about foreign viewers. Ya the manga industry does get effected due to piracy.

Piracy certainly isn't helping the Anime Industry but it's not exactly killing it either (at least not yet). Users who consume Pirated Anime and the people who run pirating sites are only helping themselves. While Piracy generally helps expose mass amounts of Anime to Users who wouldn't normally pay for any of it in the 1st place, these Users are no different than those Users who claim to pirate Anime simply out of convenience for what ever excuse they want to make to try to justify their practices for basically just stealing.

I have heard so many excuses for pirating Anime that it really makes no difference if you think they are doing it for a noble cause or simply admitting to being just a lowlife Leech that doesn't give a crap. Piracy is no different than someone going to a store and stealing wares simply because they think they can get away with it and suffer no personal consequences.

but if i take from the store and share the goods with others, they will know how good the store is and the store becomes more well known!
the store is doing well because me myself and I did the advertising for him [very small voice]without being asked and being repeatedly told to stop by everyone who works in the store[/very small voice]
brb doing a change petition because they totally care about internet opinion from non-paying users.

watching on TV or legal streaming in Japan for free is not piracy. the anime company is being paid by the advertisers. some TV programs such as ATX requires a paid subscription, in which case they are actually paying for the content.
You can buy lossless digital music from your favorite Japanese artists on https://ototoy.jp/.
The songs are all DRM-free and you can re-download your purchased albums as you wish.
Show your support to your favorite artist if you can!
ps. if you are looking for Japanese albums, you have to search it in Japanese (not romaji). Just copy and paste the name.

The reason why anime is popular in the west is purely due to piracy.
Piracy boosts the industry.  Even back in 2000, the reason why we bought DVDs of our favorites was because we found those series to begin with.  Now look at the west, streaming platforms now provide a way for people to watch some series.  That was a fantasy in 2000.  Money is being made that wouldn't otherwise have been made.  Some people may argue against this, but it cannot be denied that piracy has created a fanbase for the west to succeed.

It helps but it's far away from optimal. I wished there was some kind of patreon for anime so you could donate some bucks directly to the creators. They could even embed it directly into pirate sites.

in a way... anime is japanese influence over the world... because of anime japan is a well known and liked over the world

even is pirated is every dollar well spent because a lot of people had chance to enjoy it.... anime production is not cheap it will be waste if few people couldn't watch it.

In the case of anime, it probably helps. A bit, at least, but that might just be my informed opinion.

The bulk of the profit of any anime comes from the selling of merchandise. Anime is more like advertising rather than the product. Streaming makes fuck all for the industry, so piracy making anime as widespread as it has in the last couple decades might have helped the industry a lot. There are so many people in the west who buy merch directly from Japan that wouldn't even have been introduced to anime if not for piracy.

That's not true for manga though, as manga itself is the product and authors depend directly on the sale of those for a living and to continue producing. So piracy definitely hurts manga.
