Volume 7 is the first part of the "Civil war" arc, and I'm once again impressed by the amount of historical material about Japan that Tezuka was able to adapt into manga. Of course, it'll all make more sense for people well-versed in Japanese history, but just looking up the key names and events is sufficient too. The Phoenix was not really present in the story, and it looks kinda as a standalone compared to the rest volumes. There's only one recurring character here, Gaou, but he's quickly killed off. Although it's implied that he had drunk the blood of the Phoenix at some point, which helped him live for 400 years. Looking forward to the second part of "Civil war"!

It's interesting that Benta and Obu have gotten apart each offering their affection to such miserable people like Kiyomori, obsessed with power and Hinoe, a deceiving thief. This situation illustrates so lovely the good-nature of Benta and Obu! Their hearts were so full of innocence and love that they could not refuse to work toward the salvation of such troubled souls!

It is obvious that love can heal the heart's illness! Kiyomori was more rational, collaborative and even merciful when Obu was by his side, but he went completely insane in her absence. And Hinoe atoned for her sins and started praying by Benta's side. I am unspeakably grateful to Osamu Tezuka for transmitting such powerful messages through his work!
"The me today will not ever make the future me to regret!"

Volume 7 Phoenix review. I can't believe it's just part one of an arc. I was a bit distracted since I was talking to someone but it's been very interesting to watch Benta's journey!! I'm expecting some angst between him and Obu next part, wasn't expecting that in Phoenix to be honest.
