I like it when I was a kid...It's dubbed in the local language here(The Philippines) and is shown in the TV every afternoon(after many kids are in their own homes). I think they're re-running this time and time again but this time its time slot is in the mornings.

If you're asking if I'll watch it now? Naahhhh...

Rather than liking it, it was more like our only mean of entertainment.

It was only elementary school so we still had 1 hour of free time after school, so we just watch TV and Dragon Ball happened to be airing.

Rest of the evening from 7-11pm its homework and study. Basically 5pm school finishes, get home at 5:30, watch TV eat dinner then after 7pm its homework and study for 3-4 hours.

I think that's debatable. Dragon Ball Z is quite arguably the most popular anime of all time outside of Asia. In fact, many people point at DBZ as the reason why anime became mainstream, well, sort of.

Asian and have never watched DBZ, and I doubt that I'd start liking it any time soon.

lmfao this thread though.

Quality wise, it's terrible. But I enjoy it because it's mindless entertainment with nostalgic feelings. I'm western btw.

My boyfriend is asian, but he's the only one in his family that was born in America (his fam is from the philippines to be exact). He feels the same way about DBZ as I do. Terrible quality, but nostalgic feels. We'll watch it if there is nothing else to do, AT ALL.

Nope.

Can Dragonball viewership in the US and France be 20 million per episode? because that's just its viewership in Japan. Add in the Philippines and China and its clear who has more viewership.

Dragonball popularity in the west Mainly stems from USA and France. It doesn't have real statistics that it's more popular than Asia.

It was Great but DBZ was dull when there was the talking scenes instead of fighting.

DB is more rewatchable, since its more episodic and there is a good amount of action plus fighting, plus new backgrounds and locations to keep it fresh. I also enjoyed watching Goku grow up, and become a recognised hero in parts of the world. I also like the fact the fighting was more interesting and funny.

DBZ Fails on this due to the fact you had long arcs where they were in the same place again and again for 30-40 episodes.

Good enough I guess. Like some people here have said, it's like one of the few anime shown at the time slot where kids are able to watch it. But I prefer the manga over the anime, myself.

Asian here, not a huge fan. I'll watch it if it's showing on TV or something though.

I like it 'cus of action/fights and some characters.
and seeing as it's the definitive battle shounen, I think that's enough.

Moved from Anime Discussion

Being Asian and being born in the West, I'm not sure how I'm supposed to respond to this. I mean, DBZ is fine for what it is and it's something I grew up with. I got good memories of it and I still enjoy it through stuff like the Abridged series and when I checked out some of the newer games, but that's pretty much it.
