The two episodes prior to this had me bored to tears. This episode, however, was amazingly well done, all of the emotional beats hit perfectly and it felt like genuine closure to the story.

7/10 for me. Could have been 9 episodes instead, but overall content with how the story played out regardless of the slower pacing towards the end.

I felt like this last episode was a little disappointing... it's a little too centered around Mirai and her personal issues. The parents were rather flat characters also, since we see so little of them and they behave so conveniently at the end. There were still some touching scenes despite this, but it felt like it was missing something.... maybe I just thought Mirai's resolve should have been stronger.

It certainly took Mari a long time to make it over... I wonder what was keeping her? ...wasn't she worried whether Mirai would make it home safely being still in denial over her brother?

Also, I thought the cell towers were still down at the fountain where Yuuki sent the email.... maybe I glossed over something there.
@saka Only Mari's service provider remained active I'm pretty sure, as she was able to use the network to watch the news from her mobile, while Mirai couldn't.

Emotional episode, but ends a bit too abruptly.
Pretend there's something flashy and cool here.

Decent series that had a somewhat clumsy execution of emotional moments at times, but it's at least passable in most aspects of anime design.

Random annoyances:

- Just end it with ten (or less) episodes instead of a whole finale consisting of crying and generic lines about loss
- Cheesy flashbacks collection near the end gave me a stomachache (I'm lactose intolerant)
- The OP theme sounds straight from a battle shounen, who the hell picked that?

One of the most boring anime ever made, predictable and dragged on, with sappy drama, clichè dialogues, generic music and characters you don't care about. Subpar from beginning to end, forcefully dramatic and never emotionally or visually impactful, but unsurprisingly got high ratings 'cause children x disasters is sooo saaad (Grave of the Fireflies docet).
Glad to have finished this after 10+ years so I can take it off my on-hold list. Don't watch it if you want realistic survival thrills or a focus on the actual disaster, only if you're into family drama and slice of life where nothing ever happens.

@RenaPsychoKiller My favourite part of your comment is the part where none of your assessment is accurate in the slightest.

I think they cracked the ending near masterfully. A tear-jerker, surely, but there's nothing wrong with tear-jerkers.

Though I'll rate the show 8/10 as a whole, I think the last two eps were worth 9/10.
