You know, its been a while since I saw an anime villain that was truly a villain, a character that I actually ended up truly despising and wanting to just DIE ALREADY.

This is a good thing though. Its not a "Die already you're boring" kind of hate, but more of a grudging "Die already, you're really evil, you know that!?" kind of hate.

This pale dude with a stupid hair style, tiny irises and the ability to rape women nonchalantly wherever he pleases, boats, mountains, wherever, just riled me up and so I have to salute Tenzen the Immortal Rapist.

You were a bastard. Well done.

Uhh...if he's raping *insert female Basilisk character here* in a cabin on a mountain, wouldn't Hyouma be walking on it at the same time?

But yeah, I despise Tenzen too. Great villain though.

I will be highlighting this atrocity of a character in my Anime I Watched In 2008 blog in December. Oboro, probably the only ninja in the history of ninjadom that doesnt want to kill. Or fight. Or use her brain in general.

Raping Oboro was like Xmas to me. Bitch had it coming.

Hate to say this, but...I AGREE. BITCH HAD IT COMING LONG TIME.

PS: That poll needs a new option: Anywhere

I know you're into three-way-voyeur-granny porn, c'mon just click the Ogen option.

Maybe if it was flashback Ogen...man, age was so cruel to her...hey, there we go, the "cruel age process Ogen thread".

It's sad that I voted for the mountain option.

Lol! So true. Then again, old Danjo doesn't look that great either.

Speaking of Danjo...did anyone notice how huge/bushy eyebrows seem to run in the family?
Ha! "Bushy Kouga Eyebrows" thread.

I lol'ed at the voting options and at this particular quote.

I have to agree with Sayuri though, she definitely had it coming.
As for Tenzen himself, he was indeed evil, but imo he was also the best character in the entire show. Also being a great villain & some sort of recurring nightmare since he just refused to die! Getting pwned by Oboro was probably the best humiliation though.

(For obvious reasons I did not cast a vote =P)

Nope. I love him too.

Yes, Oboro had it coming.

Anywhere should be an option....but I guess a boat wouldn't be too bad.

Hmm, so far the mountain option is proving more exciting for voters, with the novelty boat and granny option trailing behind. I guess MAL peeps are prudes after all.

Or maybe you just want to share the moment with Tenzen in private and not in public? Kind of romantic really.

Not that Tenzen GIVES A SHIT ABOUT YOU OR YOUR FEELINGS.

Every time Tenzen appears and fails to rape someone in this anime there should be a laughtrack in the background.

Tenzen was a great villain, yes. Anyone with reversed devil horns as a hair style is going to be pretty damn evil. At the start, you just had to look at his slanted eyes with thick black lines around them to know he'd be an endgame player.

Like someone else said, it was rather amusing how, whenever he tried to rape someone, he was killed. First he got strangled from behind, then he got poisoned and, finally, Gennosuke arrived in time to do the whole white knight thing. If he was smarter, he would've realized that gagging 'posion breath' and having his way with her would've been a better use of time then shooting pins at her to spell Iga-something, but he was just destined to fail. (Or, alternatively, he could've just gone down the corpse fucking path if he was THAT desperate for ninja lovin'...)

If only the original story person hadn't done an Evangelion and gave a vague, 'He was born with a dead woman so, naturally, he was born as an immortal with some kind of alien lifeform inside!' he would've been one of the best characters ever. In my opinion, if you can't explain something, it's best not to try to look smart by not explaining anything.

I only read the manga...and I hate to admit this, the only parts I liked were where Tenzen was doing his raping
And this is coming from a guy who hates hentai.
*sigh*

Yeah I agree, the explanation for him was lame and makes him look less of a 'badass', they should not even have explained his immortality.

Boat. Then he can throw me overboard and watch the saltwater slowly dissolve me...

In all seriousness now, he was one effective villain. The only true allround badass in this show

Honestly I just wanted him to die already because I thought he was obnoxious like the vast majority of the cast. His rape of Oboro, while messed up, didn't bother me that much. Since I didn't care for any of the characters at all, one of the most boring anime I've watched in a long time. It's a shame because it had a great start, but they had to go with the incredibly cliched Rome & Juliet route. Most of the characters had pretty crappy development. About the only character I liked or thought was pretty interesting was Saemon and he died in a really lame way.

Also LOL @ that poll.

This is the objectively best thread ever. The ratio of good comments is also astounding.
Good to know this guy who writes pretty okay reviews is a master at hilarious shitposting.

Oshii is probably the only director that loves dogs. He thinks he's a dog himself.

That's right, its slime! It will dissolve your clothing slowly before my eyes!

Why are you assuming that he necessarily is a rapist?
It may have sounded like he just lied to Koshirou when he said that he didn't really have the intention to rape, and that he just did that to lure the invisible guy. But I think it's still fair to consider the possibility that he was telling the truth, especially since he had over 200 years of wisdom.
And he is also the one who went to tell the truth to Oboro in the beginning when everyone else was deceiving her. So I definitely think that he had his principles too, and that none of the characters was really evil.
This anime had no villain or hero, and no protagonist or antagonist, even if the opening made it look like it had.

What? That's clearly bullshit. Basilisk does have a lot of morally grey characters. But one thing is clear; Tenzen is a raping bastard!

He was enjoying raping Oboro far too much for it to just be a ruse. If he was pretending, he wouldn't even have needed to touch her.
And after this, he clearly rapes Kagerou just because he wants to. And he says he'll do it again even though he knows he dies from it.

And this shouldn't really factor into the writing of the original Basilisk because it came after. But in the sequel to Basilisk:

Shoot first, think never.

Damn, I feel so ashamed now for having written that in 2018...
I just finished re-watching it and I recognize that Tenzen is in fact a rapist bastard.
The other ninjas did have their good and evil sides, with some being more evil than good, and others more good than evil.
By the way, I liked your observations in the "Where did this series really fail for you?", especially concerning Saemon after helping to kill Akeginu.
