@DreamingGhostYou used to be able to simply upvote or downvote a review. Then they removed downvotes. Later, they added 'reacts' which is nice. At some point they also started showing one of each 'Recommended, Mixed, Not Recommended" Personally, I don't see the point of showing one of each, and in fact I find it irrelevant. It was better to just show most popular review. The 'Not Recommended', for instance, is often a troll review or simply someone who didn't like the actual genre and thus rated the show poorly (eg, if you dislike yaoi, why are you watching and reviewing a yaoi?) That is not useful. |

I've been focusing more on reviews for AniList since they have downvoting (among other features) but I'd definitely like to see it be brought back here as well. |

@lordzeru That arguement falls apart when the exact same thing can be done for upvotes. Also if you want a safe space, why would you even publish a review? Reviews should be allowed to go into the negative too, make the author really think about what he wrote ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)Also i just checked the sign up page, and they have a recaptcha so thats nice. Probably didn't have it before. @cnon ok ill do some investigating see what I can pull up on these forums. I can see that happening for less watched series |

yeah top reviews are usually positive ones which is why reviews suck now. they removed not helpful because of vote brigading iirc. you need to check the announcement thread. That's a good idea I always compare negative and positive reviews before forming an opinion anyway. Sometimes you need to dig really deep though. |

Their reasoning was that MAL reviewers needed a safe space to post their half-assed reveiws. Downvotes were hurting their feelings and they used some very remote cases of people getting their reviews downvote spammed as justification for removing the system all together instead of investigating any other way of removing false downvotes with troll accounts. |

What reason is given to us by MAL for the removal of downvoting reviews? This only promotes people not reading reviews that gave a different score than they have. Which people are already less likely to do, because we like it when people agree with us.What conspiracy theory have the people come up with? My new system is to read 2 reviews for each anime, one that has given a high score and one that has given a low score. If the top 4 is all positivie (usually) or negative, Click more reviews and keep going until you find one opposite. If you guys have better system let me know @cnon give opinion please |
