a promising concept is marred by the somewhat formulaic story and a loathsome 'cute' animal creature that goes 'kweee'. the series does have its entertaining moments and some nice plot twists. if you 'mind the gaps' created by the infrequent plot holes and forced storyline developments, and don't mind the fairly generic characters, whose overall predictability nevertheless doesn't leave them /completely/ 2-dimensional, you may have an entertaining evening.

the story idea is actually pretty good, but the writing is not. the only thing holding this show together is the formulaic stringing along of all the usual tropes. if you've already seen 'rakudai kishi no cavalry', 'gakuen toshi asterisk', 'seireitsukai no blade dance', or just about any battle-orientated harem anime, you've already seen this one.
to top it off, the music was also badly done.
in the end, 'absolute duo' was absolute doodoo.

it manages to put a somewhat refreshing spin on an otherwise now commonplace theme. a few creative plot turns improve its likeability. however, many of the subplots are hackneyed.

now, 10 years later, i can confirm that, yes, it can get much better than this. but despite the clichés repeated ad nauseum, very otaku tropiness, blatant 'animé logic', and the annoying whiny-faced delusional barnacle boy with the one-word vocabulary ["clare!"] cast as the so-called male 'lead' character, it was entertaining enough to keep watching to the end.
