Spy x Family Season 3

Despite occasional setbacks, Operation Strix has remained on track to extract sensitive information from the enigmatic politician Donovan Desmond. To this end, spy Loid Forger has managed to maintain his pretend family consisting of his telepathic daughter, Anya; assassin wife, Yor; and their clairvoyant dog, Bond. Still the only one aware of everyone's true identities, Anya tries to sustain the family's cohesion while working to befriend Donovan's son Damian, her Eden Academy classmate.

However, Anya's efforts instead earn her another Tonitrus Bolt, bringing her closer to getting expelled and jeopardizing the operation's success. Hearing the news, Loid faints from shock. In his unconsciousness, he reminisces about his tragic past and his journey to becoming a spy. Realizing what Operation Strix means to him and the world, Loid finds renewed motivation. Although they each work toward their own covert goals, the Forgers continue to cherish their chaotic yet blissful family life.

Preliminary (13/13 eps)

I honestly don’t understand why some people dislike this show just because they don’t fully grasp what the story is about. Not every anime needs a super complex or dramatic plot to be enjoyable. Spy x Family isn’t just about the mission it’s about enjoying the everyday moments of Anya and the Forger family. Some shows are meant to be fun, wholesome, and character driven, and that’s exactly what makes this series special.
Characters – 10/10
The trio is lovable, balanced, and fun to watch.
World-Building – 10/10
It’s a world that feels lived-in serious when it needs to be, but still full of charm and humor.
Animation & Direction ... – 10/10
The visuals remain high quality:
Smooth action scenes
Expressive, comedic character animation
Beautiful color design
Wit Studio and CloverWorks continue to deliver.

Spy x Family Season 3 is everything fans hoped for and more.
It’s not about being the most complex story. it’s about the joy, chaos, and love of the Forger family. The humor, heart, and unique charm make it one of the most enjoyable anime of the year.

Mixed Feelings

Preliminary (13/13 eps)

I was really cynical when i first type my review on this show. But now im like ANYA WAKU WAK and not only that, i also be snorting on that ARARARA YOR "Saori Hayami asmr" YANDERE BADDY VIBE. The first season that i wrote for the review in conjuction of what their approach of depth of the tone of the theme into the character to as to now and judging and getting the ideas from catching up to now. The theme and the narrative asthetic is really wholesome and slice of life based and GOOBIE. ... I would've expected the show go for a dark toned gritty visceral, period time accurated, compelling story driven approached. But got damn i was wrong as fuck because it is pretty obvious at this point this is attentionally done on purpose by the author of the series, wanting to go for a audience that want something warmthful and good vibes and the queue knowing the author isn't going for a serious approach just by knowing the fictional name of the foriegn country and also the prop, wardrobe and enviroment deisgn isn't trying to compete toward diehard historian. Overall the acutal premise is actually about anya trying to persuade loid into clapping yor cheek so that they can produce a step sibling for anya so that she can have an official family and assist loid mission to kill damian emo looking ass father. The real reason why people liked it in terms of the divied audience is rather because it is wholesome or it is cute and funny

Preliminary (3/13 eps)

Genuinely what the fuck are we even doing at this point?

Where is this show going? Is it still about spies? Are we still preventing that war? Are Loid and Yor falling in love? Is this a comedy? A romance? A serious political thriller? A slice of life with a massive ensemble cast doing mundane bullshit for 3 seasons?

Like most people were back when season 1 first aired, I was impressed at how charming, colorful, and exciting the first few episodes of this show were. It's got a pretty solid initial hook that seems rife for an interesting double life story- a world class ... spy needs to create a fake family to infiltrate a prestigious private school and make contact with a politician bent on starting a war. That last part is very important- "make contact". I remember thinking to myself after those first few episodes: "Wow! This is so fun! I can't even imagine what's going to be happening three seasons and a movie from now when Loid is well past that initial goal of making contact with this guy and the exciting spy espionage story gets going!"

And here we are three seasons and a movie into this shit and Loid has barely even made it to the first step of this incredibly important plan. In fact, we haven't even touched this storyline since the end of season 1.

Spy x Family is an unending list of increasingly bad ideas that get thrown out immediately for even worse ones. As I said, we start with by far the strongest plotline this show has, only to toss that shit into a fire pretty much instantly to focus on bad side characters that contribute literally nothing of value (except Fiona, absolutely goated character). Remember how we set up a really interesting moral dilemma of Loid adopting an orphaned girl to use as a pawn in his operation, the implication being he's planning on throwing her back out onto the streets as soon as he's done with her? Yeah, me neither. Forget about that. Remember how Yor's brother works for the state police and presents a serious threat to Loid's mission, and you're thinking Loid might be left with no choice but to kill him? Who cares? Next. Remember how Yor is an assassin who brutally murders people from the criminal underworld? That sounds boring! Who fucking cares why she's doing that or how she starting doing that in the first place!

Now we're finally getting Loid's backstory, possibly the most interesting thing this show has done in 20 episodes aaaaand it's over in 1.5 episodes. Thank god, I was almost enjoying myself for a few minutes there. Finally, we can finally get back to Yor being bad at cooking again without skipping a beat!!!

I feel like there's so many ways you could take this initial premise, yet routinely the show decides to pick the least interesting and most off topic option possible. For instance, the double life plotline is such a good place to start. Outside of one or two scenes early on, there's absolutely no pressure in the plot put on Loid or Yor to hide their respective secrets from each other. You would think that Loid, being the 'worlds greatest spy' that he is, would be able to deduce that something is up with his pretend wife. Like, what? Isn't his entire job investigating people and gathering information? The fact that he doesn't know she's an assassin is actually insane and completely undermines his legitimacy. This is the guy we're trusting with the mission to prevent the deaths of millions of innocents? That's another thing. Loid has to be the actual worst spy of all time- every single time he's presented with a challenge perfectly equipped for his skillset, like forging documents, tricking people, infiltration... Loid just decides he "can't" for some contrived reason, and is left to rely on Anya, a six year old with zero academic skills whatsoever, to somehow get into the school's most prestigious academic club completely on her own merits. What we're left with is Anya... going to school normally... and Loid... just kinda... hoping it all goes well, I guess? What is he bringing to table here exactly?

There's just nothing here. There never has been. There's no plot progression, no romantic progression between Loid and Yor, it won't fully commit to being a goofy slice of life show or a serious drama about preventing the horrors of war, and it lands nowhere as a result. For the love of god, can we just pick a lane?

Yes I will continue to watch this shit until it's over. It's so bad that I genuinely have to know how it ends so I can finally stop wondering what the author actually intended for this story. It would be awesome if the next 9 episodes of this show absolutely lock in and it becomes good suddenly, but somehow I don't think it will.
