Synopsis

An adventurous wild mouse called Gamba travels with his friends to see the ocean but he finds an injured mouse and hears about the violence of white ferret Noroi. Gamba decides to help the mice suffering under Noroi's tyranny.

Gamba no Bouken is a fantastic little adventure piece directed by Osamu Dezaki during the turning point in Dezaki's 70s series. Dezaki had largely focused on directing sports series like Ashita no Joe and Ace wo Nerae in the early part of the decade, shifting to classic book adaptations with Ie Naki Ko and Takarajima in the later half of the decade. Gamba represents a mid-ground between these two eras stylistically, with an art style shift away from the more psychedelic style of the earlier towards the bright colors and fantastic high detail backgrounds of the later.

Preliminary
This is less of a review and more of a public service announcement that this anime has potential, has finished airing long ago, and still doesn't have it's deserved fansub. However, one episode got a fansub in 2011 and hasn't seen any updates from that person since. This review will be of that single episode.

So "Gamba no Bouken", or "Adventure of Gamba", is what appears to be - and probably is - a children's show. That guess comes from the type of dialogue that happens and the simple-mindedness of much of the cast - not to mention the simplistic art style and the fact that read more
