Denpa-teki na Kanojo

This is pretty much one of the better part of all the school based anime out there that has been popping up for a long long time. The story is pretty much episodic and about 45 minutes/episode.

This anime kind of reminded me that I don't have to loose hope on good psychological anime coming out every now and then. The story was well written, except for certain things here and there conveniently happening which can be easily overlooked considering the other merits of the anime. The character development was superb and the relations between characters in my opinion was not over complicated. Another aspect that ... caught my eye was how the story was told/showed (Which I don't want to explain further because it may lead to spoilers)

There is a pretty gruesome element to the anime as well which may remind you of a few anime like Psycho Pass or Kara no Kyoukai, which may be another reason I enjoyed it. The only sad part was that the anime stopped at episode 2, though I don't want to complain about the same since going out with a bang is more pleasing than dragging it out and inviting the hate. Overall, definitely a 9/10

Denpa Teki na Kanojo is based on the first and third light novels written by Kentarō Katayama. The novels were adapted into a short two episode OVA.

Story - 7
With only two episodes, the number of clarification fails to meet the number of questions aroused. This makes up for a complex, and hard-to-follow series. However, this does not mean Denpa teki na Kanojo was a failure as a whole. In the two episodes they have released, they introduced a number of mysteries and of course, a solution towards them. Some concepts were, for the most part, compulsive. The idea of destroying others' happiness for the sake ... of your own was neat and made sense with the events that occurred.

Art - 9
Considering Brains Base were the producers of this OVA, it is no surprise that the artwork of Denpa Teki na Kanojo is at such a high quality. The art, without a doubt, was absolutely flawless. From the character designs to the environment, everything was top notch. However, there were times where the animation fluidity was not as smooth. The character I found myself to be more fond towards is Ame Nochibana. Her character design perfectly portrays her mysterious aura.

Sound - 6
Unfortunately, there are no remarkable OST/OP/ED from this anime. Do not, and I repeat, do not go watching this anime with high music expectations. It is almost guaranteed that you won't find a musical piece worth listening to. The sound, in terms of voice acting, is well done. Although I am not Japanese and I cannot judge the pronunciation of words, I can for sure, say that one can feel the characters' emotions with the tone they use when speaking.

Character - 8
I personally found the characters to be well done. They differentiated in many aspects allowing for a diversity of characters. As stated, Ame Ochibana happens to be the character that fits my liking. Observing her actions, I noticed she is very loving, protective, and is not your typical shy/annoying/cheerful school girl. Subsequently, the other characters are just as intriguing in their own set way.

Enjoyment - 9
My interest consists of the mystery and thriller genres. I found this very short OVA series to be "Great" (9). Others who also have a taste for these genres will definitely enjoy watching these short two episodes.

Overall - 8
The pros to having such a short series is that you do not have to worry about slow pacing. There was not a boring or tedious moment in this anime. That is to say the mysteries were not all answered due to such a small runtime. This anime is worth the watch if you enjoy the particular genres it's categorized under.

I liked the art. it is pretty.
I liked the ending theme. is a beautiful melody that complements and magnifies the intensity of themes presented.
I liked the characters and they stand out.
I liked the camera changes to Ochibana Ame standing alone in various backgrounds that added a psychological tone to her words.
I liked the approach of the events unravelling, not unlike a mystery animé.
I liked the score cues during tense scenes.
I liked how each character had something going on.
I liked that character had depth. We only found out what we need to know for the story to progress when we need to ... know it.

Right off the bat we are shown a disturbing scene. For a few moments it looks like we are about to witness a rape and then nothing. The atmosphere changes to a normal typical school animé.
We get a tough-guy MC that has just finished off the welcome committee, then he gets a letter. Thinking its the same thing he prepares for a fight only to be greeted by a peculiar young girl.
She confessed to be his 'servant' and he loses his nerve. She stalks him constantly until he finally gives in.

What would you give for an attractive young female to be willingly to do 'anything' for you in your high-school days :)

Everything rolls from there as its revealed people have a hidden side to themselves.
Two such individuals have embraced their hidden desires and go on a killing spree.
Is up to our brave MC and his 'girlfriend' to save the day?

I thoroughly enjoyed this series and recommend those who like mystery animé to watch it. It feels like Detective Conan without those junior detective sidekicks and their antics.

Electromagnetic Girlfriend is an eccentric little gem of an anime, absolutely packed with suspense, mystery, and adventure from start to finish. I went into this with the weirdest expectations because of the title, but not even 10 minutes in those expectations were flipped on their head, and I was hooked. Beginning with the story, it really pulls its weight considering just how short the show is with a scant 2 episode run. Without giving anything away, the setup is very out-there but soon builds itself up into this engaging, even surprising story, backed up by some great writing. The mysteries are so unique and detailed ... and take these turns that are just impossible to see coming. This aspect alone is incredibly impressive, and this anime's strongest point. The art is very solid overall, with distinct character designs and a level of background detail which really brings the world to life, which in turn makes the mysteries more compelling. The sound is also well-crafted, with impressive voice talent and accurate sounds of life, like footsteps on wet pavement or the buzzing of flies. This is all not to even mention the music, which adds this ethereal sense of mystery and danger to any given scene. The characters that find themselves in these mysteries are also compelling, and act in ways that feel both classically styled for a mid-2000s anime and also grounded in pretty believable motivations, especially Juu's reluctance to entertain Ame's seeming delusions, or Hikaru's desire to protect her sister. Overall, Electromagnetic Girlfriend is a solid mystery anime, especially for how short it is, and is definitely worth a watch. Indeed, my biggest count against it is that there's not more of it, as even the manga itself is pretty short. Do not sleep on this, at best you'll love it and at worst there are worse ways to spend 80 minutes.

At this point Studio Brain’s Base (Baccano) has made an impact on the industry enough to start making a good name for themselves. This lead to the studio taking on a small adaptation of The Radio Wave-Like Girlfriend, which is an adaptation of a short three (3) volume light novel series. Standing at only adapting two of the three stories, how good could this anime possible be? A good choice was getting the director of the hit show Elfen Lied in Mamoru Kanbe. The man and the studio as of 2009 had experience in creating a deeper story and going beyond what was expected.

This show ... focuses around two intriguing characters: Juuzawa whom is a tall blond with a lone wolf type of attitude and Ochibana whom is probably suffering from fantasy prone schizophrenia by believing her and Juuzawa shared a past life, so she pleads her full loyalty into being his servant. Due to strange events connected to Juuzawa in each episode, as he tries to solve the mysteries around him he begins to have reservations towards Ochibana based on her personality, actions, and intelligence.

Before going into each episode, the animation, art, backgrounds, and music all blend quite well together. There is a noticeable amount of detail in the show while objects and people consistently move very fluid from start to finish. Music matches moments of calmness and proceeds in fluid transition where tension heats up hard and fast when need be. The Radio Wave-Like Girlfriend creates a fantastic environment and in such a short amount of time gets the viewer to be enthralled within a story of unlikely scenarios and events showcasing emotions from love lost to absolute devotion.

This is a psychological thriller in which showcases two episodes focusing on different ways to rationalizes one’s own trauma. Episode one is about a serial killer that was a rape victim in which the killer develops a passion for taking pictures of the fear on their victims face before they die. This is followed by the victim being tied up and put on display for the public to find. Episode two focuses around a game of torment dubbed “Happiness Game” where people’s goal is to steal happiness from others in order to make one feel better about their own current state of misery.

Each 40 minute episode brings about characters being crazy or downright insane. However, the underlining message of the show is, “are they actually insane” and “is it all that different as long as your actions are rationalized?” Character choices be it pro- or antagonists always act within their own defined frame of mind and logic. The sense of despair and gloom radiated brightly in a show taking place mostly during the night or a bright sunny day. Each action and picture is framed for focus so the viewer grasps a situation in full detail like a murder scene in bloody gruesome detail or slipping in decay and torment into a bright background such as busted old apartment buildings and bugs around a decayed garbage pile.

This show is an intelligent anime with superb suspense and tension building. The sheer amount of information hardly feels forced even with some questionable ending episode takes. With an atmosphere and unique storytelling, this might be Brain Base’s best work and a must watch for fans of psychological thrillers.

Denpa-teki is a good show with the main draw being that this anime holds a unique MC combo of the large and street tough Juu Juuzawa paired with the small and reclusive Ame Ochibana who follows Juu believing she is his knight. The second most important thing about this anime is it's stories, Juu and Ame are tossed into mysterious and brutal crimes that are committed around them and from there the pair set about to bring justice and put a stop to these acts. I found the stories to be quite compelling and attention holding and very unique. I recommend watching this show if ... you like thrillers, murder mayhem, and a bit of mystery. I would also recommend watching this show if you enjoy unique MC pairings as this show has just that, however be warned since this show has about an hour and a half of content their relationship isn't fully fleshed out and might end too early for some people's taste.

Before I begin this review I want to say that when I started this anime I thought it wouldn't be good and just watched it cause I had nothing else I wanted to watch... oh how wrong I was, this is the kind of mystery anime that will keep you watching eagerly until the final second of it! Oh also I will keep this spoiler free.

Story: The story was simply magnificent! That is off course if you like mystery with a touch of horror! I won't say much to avoid spoiling this for you but it's interesting and honestly entertaining. It won't have you laughing ... and if you are not fun of the genre you might not like it but if you like mystery you should definitely give it a shot, it's short and each episode is a separate story with the same main characters. -9

Art: I din't like the art very much, it wasn't bad but just not so great... but as long as it's not terrible I don't let it count negatively, it would have been a positive thing if it was better though. -6

Character: The main character had a pretty plain personality, unlike the girl who was actually quite intriguing! But the ones that I found more interesting than anyone were the antagonists, I do usually find the bad people of the story more interesting than the good ones so maybe that's why, but still seeing the way they acted when you didn't expect them to and the reasoning behind their actions was one of the best things in this show. -9

Overall I give this a 9, the only thing I found disappointing about this anime was that I wanted more episodes and it only has 2.

I’m completely amazed by this anime. I have no idea why I haven’t heard of it earlier. I came watching this with absolutely no expectations, and after reading the reviews praising its greatness, I was surely expecting to be disappointed, or at least unsatisfied. Despite my worries, Denpa teki na Kanojo proved me wrong.

A majority of the anime delves on the psychological state of individuals who were unfortunately succumbed to traumatic experiences. Because of this, much of the “antagonists” are made to believe that happiness can only be gained through taking other people’s happiness ... away. This is just a safe explanation as the events that occur during the climaxes of each episode will surely shock you. The build-up towards these climaxes are smooth and paced perfectly. It’s almost completely shrouded in mystery, giving us little doses of explanations that will make us wonder, but not exactly know what will come forth. This results in a satisfying viewing experience.

The atmosphere and mood perfectly reflect on the show’s themes, with repeated glimpses of dark streets, broken signs, and barren buildings. It shows the right amount of blood and gore, leaving you feeling irked and disturbed, but not excessively so. The frightening imagery is amazingly displayed to show us the extent of such disturbing actions, without overstaying its welcome. Truth be told, the animation is perfect for this type of show.

The characters are in the spotlight, and that’s exactly what you would expect from a psychological thriller. While MAL doesn’t exactly label Denpa-teki within the psychological genre, I personally feel like it has a lot to say about the state-of-mind of the “antagonists”. Despite the problems being quickly resolved, the shock value is going to really make a lasting impact on you. It makes you watch in awe the amount of extremes people are willing to take to fulfill their happiness.

For being two episodes, it’s a shame the anime wasn’t longer. It had the potential to completely cover the themes it was trying to convey to the viewer, but because of its short length (even shorter than the runtime of an average film), it did not have the capacity to fully express its topics. Even so, this anime has done more than enough to satisfy me, and to also make me contemplate the reasons for why people would go through such lengths to fulfill their own view of what it is to be happy. I know this is an anime so it’s all just an exaggeration, but it’s fascinating to wonder about the state-of-minds of actual deemed “insane people” sometimes. All in all, Denpa-teki na Kanojo is a show that I am surprisingly impressed by.

This OvA, has so much potential for a broader and wider aspect of its story.
It's a full on thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat begging for more of the story but avast ends in only the few episodes.
Which is the issue with the characters not being fully developed and not understanding the reasons why the characters act each way, you do learn some back story, but it's not enough to learn more on their motives and personality.
I highly reccomend this for any anime fans who like thrillers, horror/psychological and drama. It will be a anime you probably will never forget ... about. Finally, there is a light novel for this so check it out as there is way more to the story.

Story:
the story was quite entertaining and refreshing, but it had only two episodes so, not much I can say about.
It only covered two stories in both of them they had very satisfactory endings, so, overall enjoyment will be pretty good.

Music:
Nothing much can I say about it. Both ending songs are decent and there is one theme which is also pretty good.

Characters: I think this might be the weakest aspect of it, cause it has only two episodes. Characters are decent but you can't expect any character development which is not a bad thing at all.

Art:
What I most enjoyed in this anime was background art style and the still shots of different characters and places. Colors were really beautiful and the lighting was done just right. The art style of anime was the reason in the first place I start watching anime, and this show does have an outstanding art style.

This was weird but fun to watch at the same time. Denpa-teki na Kanojo has 2 movies which are around 42 minutes long per movie. The story of the movie revolves around a blonde-haired boy who was dragged into unnatural events - This led to him having to solve mysteries because why not!

This anime explores the danger of individuals who have "lost it" ( e.g. maniacs, psychos ) and the reason of why they are acting like one. With the MCs working as a ( technical ) rectifier for the situations.

This anime in short : My life's not normal anymore. Well. Guess I'll just ... have to go along with it.

Good story ( approved by Mr. Edgy ), Satisfactory art, Good sound, Good characters. Overall a very enjoyable movie that can kill time. Recommended to those who want to watch some quick mystery thriller.

okeh first of all let me tell you,this isn't the quite review you were hoping for. (edit:if you want to know if you are to try this anime, i would say you should. and this review doesn't include any spoilers so you can red them them even if you havent watched it yet)
im just sharing my thoughts after watching this 2 episodes ova's .
if the game of life we all have met/felt pain ,some of our friends/relatives have faces greater tragedy/pain than ours.at that moment of pain/loneliness they need somebody they could relay on.they need some one who would say to them "Are you okay ... ?" and that's all they dont know or dont want to know if he/she could help help them or not .but they feel relived ,they find someone to share their story .
these were the feelings that i felt (now im talking about the anime,dont get too serious) after watching the first episodes.though i didnt like the 2nd ep that much ,but i think it was decent enough.you know the thing about dividing happiness thing didnt pulled me that much into the story.but the ending was kinda unexpected and it was the best thing about the second episode.it put everything into one single place where it belongs

"Are you OK?"

Welcome to LA's 5th Annual Halloween Special this 2016.....and because last year LA took on Ghost Stories (DUBBED) and before that Corpse Party, LA thought to take on a more "thriller" mystery than the more "bloody" ones LA took on previously, this time looking at Denpa-teki na Kanojo annnnnndddd...yes it's quite obvious that Denpa-teki na Kanojo doesn't fit the Halloween theming for this "special", as its more "thriller mystery", than any actual horror elements involved but work with LA here...though blood will be spilled...

*ahem* that aside, the plot is essentially a 2 isolated murder mysteries in which a couple of highschool students try to figure ... out who the murderer or mastermind are. The main characters, Juu Juuzawa voiced by Yoshimasa Hosoya a delinquent with a VERY strong sense of justice, but he's a pretty unique character outright, always wanting to do the right thing, but not the point of just him wanting to do it all and accepts other people's help, Ame Ochibana voiced by Ryou Hirohashi a shy yet pseudo-chunni who sees Juu as her Highness and her herself a knight to protect Juu, not to mention Ame is one of those "they clean up nicely when they do" kind of archtype, together they make a pretty great pair and even better chemistry when the mystery is involved, as much as they are polar opposite personalities, they really do have the chemistry once Juu starts opening to Ame to make both their relationship as well as the mysteries brought upon them that much more interesting. As for the villains or "mastermind/murderers" in these two episodes, well the first episode's villain just falls onto the main duo's lap, but the sudden plot twist character to the first episode is rather coincidental to say the least and THAT plot twist character just spews exposition and backstory and all LA wanted to say was "just knock h** unconscious already!"..another words, as much as the first episode was just to get the main duo together. The final episode however is MUCH different with a rather GREAT villain with great motivations and although this villain has subtle and more or less predictable hints who this villain is, it's merely because of the villain's psychotic plan as WELL as this villain voice actor, LA has to praise this villain as heavy compensation for the first episode's villain. Although both villains have hardly any sympathy to LA even with their motivations, it's actually quite unique that we do get into some insight into them no matter how psychotic they are and with their theming to their murders or plans, their not sympathetic, just deviously developed for villains.

The other supporting characters do get screentime, however the majority of the supporting characters don't arrive til the final episode, the focus of the characters are to Juu, Ame and the murderer/mastermind of the episode and LA doesn't mind it as Juu and Ame were pretty great as a duo. As for LA's favourite character, it goes to Ame Ochibana as the mysterious chunni, maniac pixie character, LA's favourite supporting character?...well let's just say it's a tie between Ichiko Ayase voiced by Ami Koshimizu and Kaori Shiraishi voiced by Kana Ueda, why?...well HUGE SPOILERS but you'll easily know why if you've watched Denpa-teki na Kanojo, but let's just say it's because of their character development and for LA's personal preference, it's also due to their voice actors (for both main and supporting characters).

The plot twists and how the "mysteries" unravel is well slightly predictable for both mysteries, but LA didn't think that Denpa-teki na Kanojo was about it's "plot twists" more about the murderer/mastermind and their theming to what they believe in.

In terms of voice acting, the voice acting were actually exceptional, from Yoshimasa Hosoya, Ryou Hirohashi and Ami Koshimizu (as Juu Juuzawa, Ame Ochibana and Ichiko Ayase respectively) and seriously with a stella voice cast from Mai Nakahara, Eri Kitamura, Kana Ueda and Yuu Kobayashi, what can LA say but La just loved this voice cast and La will say special mention again to Ami Koshimizu and Ryou Hirohashi. IF there was one little annoyance LA had with this voice cast however, it goes to Kozue Yoshizumi as Hikaru Ochibana, Ame's younger sister, she quite easily goes into squeaky little sister range, as much as Kozue's vocals is an annoyance, it wasn't both the character or the voice actors fault AT ALL.

In terms of animation done by Brains Base, well the animation overall was pretty decent and seeing the pretty gruesome murders goes into Corpse Party levels of gore, just censored mostly...just blood. The character designs were also pretty polished and distinct, LA kinda had to say this as besides Juu, Ame and Hikaru, the other characters are almost always on their school uniforms.

Denpa-teki na Kanojo has it's problems especially with it's first episode to say the least with villain and how coincidental it all is, but it thankfully compensated for the final episode, but where Denpa-teki na Kanojo's biggest fault is that this anime OVA should have been a full 12/24 episode series, as Denpa-teki na Kanojo's simultaneous development of it's mastermind/murderer (along with their plans, motivations and theming to the villains episode) as well as the pseudo-romantic-chunni-justice relationship of Juu and Ame, Denpa-teki na Kanojo could have been a great thriller murder mystery anime with it's stellar voice cast and it's decently polished animation, LA isn't gonna say Denpa-teki na Kanojo is wasted potential because it's second episode alone has LOTS of potential it showed, but wanting see how things might pan out in this kind of anime...LA would actually want to carry on watching it if it got more episodes.

Denpa-teki na Kanojo might not have been Halloween-based, but it's villains and those gruesome deaths and murders are a close substitute. Nonetheless Denpa-teki na Kanojo's faults and it's impressive character strengths does still make this anime something to watch, LA just wished it could have done more with this premise with more episodes.

This show caught my attention because of the cover picture looks so mysterious and just well interesting. I mean come on the umbrella is red!!

"The quickest way to achieve happiness is to avoid looking at reality." Very true. It's the quickest, and easiest way. But it's not the only way. I now know that one can have a reasonably happy life even in the bleakness of reality. Not that I have all the answers, or that there's one simple answer. For me, it's about allowing myself to feel good and being ok with letting myself enjoy things. Simple things even. Maybe things we take for ... granted in many cases. It's ok to be a little selfish. You have to be, because nobody but you is really going to be able to make you happy. Of course, it's also possible to be happy by staying in delusion. Many people pick this path. I try to avoid it though.

Denpa teki na Kanojo does an amazing job in my opinion on [sic] creating characters that can be psychologically manipulated (Namely, the antagonists.)
The character that does the manipulating- it's questionable how she does it, but with that aside - is very good at what she does, the writing is very smart.
Mainly in episode two, where the protagonist manipulates the antagonist by using the antagonist's mentality of reality as a measure to change the antagonist's perception of her own reality, instead of common law, or common sense that many shows try to force down the antagonist's throats. That was something I have not seen in a production, or at least so obviously pointed out, in such a way.
As the show points out very well, people who are psychotic, do not have common sense, or the same type of common sense that most people have (Obviously), but to understand enough one others psychology to the point of using it to manipulate, is not pointed out in productions like this very often.

Happiness can be found in literally any situation, you just need to be willing to look for it and recognize it.
Having a purpose in life also is important. Some people focus so much on trying to be happy that they ironically become unhappy every time any little thing doesn't go their way. When you have a goal, it becomes less about worrying if you are having a good or bad day, but more anticipation about the next step in your mission, and if something does go wrong, how you are going to get over it. The other thing to realize is that being perpetually happy is just as bad as being perpetually sad. Humans thrive on variety. Adversity is the relative point that allows us to judge a happy moment as what it is.

Living life little by little as I try to understand how life works. As complex as it is, so as I am, it may take a lifetime to understand. But regardless it is not pointless to pursue a near-impossible goal.

Everyone's insane, so long as you push them hard enough.

That was the phrase going through my mind while watching this anime; all of them--victims of despair. Uneventful occurrences happened in their lives that eventually pushed them to do the things that they did. The anime didn't attempt to humanize them--instead, the anime tried to portray what events can influence a person enough to think that murder is a justifiable thing to do because everyone should be as miserable as they are. That was the connection shared between those two episodes; the madness that resides within resurfaces just because of a certain chain of events. ... I don't empathize with the killers, of course. What they did was truly unforgivable--but with what they went through, one can't help but wonder if they were as much of a victim as everyone else.

In terms of the plot, I honestly found it great. There were no plot holes and everything was explained properly, down to the trauma the killers experienced that led them to become who they are. Everything was concise and I see not loose ends for both of the episodes. While it might seem rushed, I think the decision of the anime to show the peak events of their lives (that connects on why they became a murderer) was enough to speak for the plots of the episodes themselves.

In terms of characters, I think they were decent. Inserting a chuunibyou out of nowhere was kind of confusing for me, especially for an anime that endorses itself as a psychological thriller anime. But, it wasn't really enough to distract you from the main plot of the story either which is why I think it was okay.

All in all, I think it's worth watching. You can finish this anime in less than 2 hours (which is good) and the ending of the episodes were satisfactory enough to leave you with no questions asked.
