Sounds stupid, I know, but it’s actually brilliant. This cash cow isn’t some saggy old beast. She’s a sexy, fertile young babe with more than enough milk to go around, and if you think Aniplex isn’t going to milk this bitch for all she’s worth, then you’ve got another thing coming. So yes. This is just recap. And yes. Japan is still going to eat it ... up. I’d joke about the ufotable offices being plated with gold and lined with champagne fountains at this point, but given their criminal history with tax evasion, that may be a little too real.

I mean, it’s not like I don’t understand Demon Slayer’s popularity. It has pretty colors and flashing lights for general audiences to gawk and drool at; it’s based on an action-packed shounen manga; it has lots of old-fashioned morals and Japanese nationalism; and it’s set during Taisho, a beloved, romanticized, and thoroughly whitewashed era. I know the movie was already broadcast for free on Japanese TV to millions upon millions of viewers, so it’s not like this recap was necessary, but hey. Who cares?

The only new content is a pointless, miserably boring Rengoku fanservice episode which could’ve easily been used to deepen his character, but was instead used to waste twenty minuets on effortless filler and beating the dead horse with every unfunny meme joke he’s ever told. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA He said food was DELICIOUS again!! Did you hear THAT?!?! OMG! Did you see her throw a LUNCHBOX at that DEMON?! That hit me right in the FEELS! ISN’T THIS THE GREATEST ANIME EVER MADE?!?!!?!

No, it isn’t, and even if you like Demon Slayer, this format is inferior to the movie and a complete waste of everyone’s fucking time.

Kimetsu no Yaiba: Mugen Ressha-hen, also known as the Mugen Train arc in a 7-episode TV series format is a remake of the Mugen Train Movie. The first episode is anime exclusive and it covers some events before the main group jumps on the train. Even though the episode itself isn't anything mind-blowing, it surely does visually look as stunning as ever.

After episode 1, the TV series is basically the same as the Movie but with some additional content like more dialogue, a few new scenes and camera angles as well as some improved visuals. There are also the short post-credits scenes that contain some ... comedic sketches or Taisho-era secrets as seen in the first season. The pacing of the series is a bit slower and sometimes the episode recaps are unnecessarily long + add the OP and ED to that.

Having watched the Movie already, do I think the TV series is worth watching?
Well, it depends whether you want to experience the Mugen Train arc again or not. If you want to see the anime exclusive episode and then basically watch a bit modified version of the Movie again then yes I'd say it's worth it. If you watched the first season and the Movie and thought "Huh, that was cool but I wasn't too impressed" then I wouldn't recommend watching the Mugen Train arc TV series. I definitely enjoyed it even after seeing the Movie multiple times.

Having only watched the first season, is it worth watching the TV series instead of the Movie?
Watching the series weekly wasn't as enjoyable as watching the Movie in one go but if you were to binge watch all 7 episodes and skip the recap, OP and ED for every episode then I suppose the experience would compare to watching the Movie.

As a big fan of the anime, I enjoyed each episode a lot but if I wanted to rewatch the Mugen Train arc, I would rather rewatch the Movie instead of the TV series.

As someone who hasn't seen the Mugen Train movie, I went into the first half of the second season of Demon Slayer with an open mind, expecting it to be at least slightly better than the first one, because I really thought there MUST be something behind all the hype. Well...yeah, not really.

The animation, art and sound was stellar, it was the same quality as the first season, and so was the weak plot, the although beautifully animated, but very simplistic battles, the tone issues, the repetitive, annoying "jokes", the emotionally manipulative, tearjerking scenes that without excemption fell flat on their faces this time ... (at least some scenes in the first season were kind of touching), the shallow, irritating characters and cringe dialogues.

So why the 5 star review, you may ask. I am a person who can, and is willing to see just why other people would like this anime. It's not only visually pleasing with beautiful soundtracks, it also provides mindless fun to those, who can turn off their brains enough to disregard every illogical/cliché/cringe moment and enjoy it (also to those who haven't seen much anime before and think that this is some completely unique, never-ever-done before story). I'm giving a 5 stars because I was partially able to turn my brain off and enjoy some parts of it.

Let's elaborate a little bit on why I think Demon Slayer is well...generic. Okay, there, I said it.

First of all, the characters.
Tanjiro is still the same self-righteous, courageous, kind, positive, motivational, respectful guy, he doesn't have a single flaw, a single human quality about him, he is just perfect, the prodigy, the chosen one, the Mary Sue (or Gary Stu), the protagonist of every (okay, most) shounen anime. The reason I am looking for "realistic" and "relatable" traits in characters is because that often helps me form a kind of connection with them, thus care about them more (although being "real" is not always necessarry for me to like a character). Tanjiro isn't only a very simplistic, cliché character, he is also just generally boring. Furthermore his screaming/whining/crying in the last episode instead of making me feel emotional, made me think "please shut up" and want to punch him in the face. Thanks Inosuke and Tanjiro for ruining a moment that maybe(!) could have been emotional.
Next character is Inosuke, although he was pretty irrelevant in this arc, but not enough, because he still managed to be annoying. Incredibly. Zenitsu barely had any screentime, but he surely made up for it! To be honest I didn't even mind him in season 1, maybe his whole "meme" personality just got boring since then, well it is Demon Slayer's style to overuse the same (barely or not at all funny from the start) jokes, switch tone and break the tension with them for some reason in like every episode. (And I am someone who has seen Gintama, I KNOW that humor can be good enough and timed just right for it to hit and not make you unable to take things seriously that are supposed to be taken seriously.) Honestly, I haven't managed to figure out what the point of Inosuke's character is, is he supposed to be solely a comic relief character? Because he hasn't gotten anything else going for him, and he s*cks even at that.
Zenitsu was even more irrelevant this arc, probably for most people's relief. Needless to say, he is still the same comic relief character who's only personality traits are that he is a pervert and he is a coward. Him perving over Nezuko is quite creepy too.
On that note I should probably mention Nezuko, but there is no need, since she isn't a character. She is a plot device and the mascot. Tanjiro literally petted her head once this arc, as if she was a dog! Well, she is, it turns out.

Next is Rengoku. Now I have to say that I usually like his character archetype. You know he is that one op, badass character (although Demon Slayer might have more than one, Giyuu and some other hashiras probably also qualify) who teaches and inspires mc. I did like his personality and found most of his moments cool so that was the main reason why I mildly enjoyed this arc. I still don't think he is a well-developed character and if you think about it, he is Tanjiro, but cooler. Maybe if Tanjiro was this character this anime could actually be enjoyable. You could see there is a problem when a guy that's only appeared in a couple of episodes and barely did anything is more interesting than your main characters combined, who we are supposed to be spending seasons with.

But that is the problem with Rengoku: no time to develope him, no time for the audience to warm up to him and next thing you know, he is dead. And his death wasn't even slightly emotional, because one: I was already cringing at that cliché flashback with his mother before, so her smiling at him had no effect on me, and second, as I mentioned, Tanjiro's stupid monologue about him "not having lost", crying and screaming made me annoyed and again, cringe a lot.

Lastly, let me talk about the laughable villains.
We got train guy (turns out his name is Enmu, but that isn't worth remembering), he had some motivations about climbing the demon hierarchy but well, s*cks to be him cuz our main characters' plot armors are thicker than Akaza's neck. He got a laughably pathetic death scene after he got finished by our whiney little kids, I actually expected the typical Demon Slayer treatment, the "look at this few minutes-long flashback from the time he was a human, look what a tragic man this one is and now cry". But nah, dude was just crying about how he couldn't kill the kids and as I was checking discussion posts I saw that he still managed to get sympathy out of some people. Unbelievable! I did say you gotta turn your brain off to enjoy this, but please keep at least a tiny portion of it on!
The other villain, Akaza, was stronger and he had Ishida Akira's voice so that's a positive. We don't know anything about him but it's not like anything deep is expected of him. Anyway, we will see him again, so Tanjiro can defeat him when he levelled up (this isn't a spoiler, just an "assumption").

That sums up the pathetic character writing of Demon Slayer, 2/10 and that 2 is all because Rengoku was kinda cool.

Now to the story, the dream sequences were jarringly bad, except for Rengoku's, I actually liked the details of his past and it was quite cool when he grabbed that girl still asleep, even though that was also obviously well...plot armor. Inosuke's and Zenitsu's dreams were pathetic attempts at making anyone laugh, and were as out of place as all the other "jokes". Tanjiro's dream could have been good, if only his awakening made any sense. First Nezuko tried waking him up with her demon flames, which I don't see why would work and they didn't even seem to work at first, but then he somehow realised he is in a dream, and later even his dead father's spirit appeared to give him some vague advise, which he of course immediately understood. (It was a totally logical assumption which he could have easily thought of by himself, sparing us from some cringe but nah, I guess a shounen protagonist using his brain just doesn't feel right.) Then Nezuko was somehow able to wake everyone else up quickly, but we aren't supposed to be thinking much about the how. The fight with the train demon was unnecessarrily long and boring, and it was time for Inosuke's plot armor to shine, when apparently he managed to not look into the eyes, even though they were literally EVERYWHERE.
Since Rengoku is apparently too op, he was left defending the people on the train, while the kids did the real work.
Then for the fight against Akaza, guess it was a decent one, even though the attacks are still painfully uncreative and uninteresting, if it wasn't for the beautiful animation...
I already expressed my thoughts on Rengoku's death scene, but let me rant a bit more about Tanjiro's stupidity, because his words didn't only make him look stupid, Akaza's reaction to his monolgue also made HIM look pathetic, and we don't want him to look pathetic, do we? We want him to look dangerous, and threatening, someone who has easily just killed one of the strongest demon slayers! Instead we have an angry stupid kid shouting after him that he had lost the battle and is a coward, even though it was blindly obvious that he had won and ran away because of the sun, and a stupid, prideful, childish, petty man getting all angry cuz a kid questioned his power, like some low-grade villain from a kid's show (well that's pretty much what he is).

I'm gonna be honest, I enjoyed even season 1 more than this, and that was also very far from being any good.

Demon Slayer is a series that needs no introduction. Having taken over the anime world, it is a series so "good" that it landed a remake of the highly acclaimed Mugen Train movie.

I've seen here and there reasons for individuals disliking this remake due to it being "pointless" or just a "waste of time". From what I have seen, I can say that the remake isn't such. Of course, it still covers content that has existed beforehand, however the directing is vastly different. A TV anime and movie have different fundamentals, in which, the TV remake did a remarkable job at exploiting. It pretty much ... shaped the movie to suit a TV format in which I will then say that due to such, I'd recommend everyone go and watch the TV version in a way to experience the same thing but in a different fashion. I suppose it would still be true that you aren't actually missing out on much other than a different performance which is still relatively equally as good. The only problem I have is that it is a little slower paced which makes the action kinda lacking, everything is (literally) broken into different parts which may kill the continuous mood. But other than that, it is still very good in its own right.

I'd imagine that most who get into the series have no reason to watch Mugen Train TV over the movie. So I have no real reason to explain the basics (y'know, story, art and whatever). Besides, I have literally done a review on that already. Also I find it hard to believe people even read reviews past the year 2017 on this site, pretty sure people just look at the score or name of the reviewer these days. But regardless, I don't recommend watching the TV version if you are completely new unless you want to see the wholly original episode 1 which is actually very good in itself; does no harm to the main movie section too.

Anyways, I was going to give this a 10/10, but considering how the movie exists, giving a 10 would be better off awarding the movie rather than the little slower TV version. So 9/10 seems fitting.

I'm gonna rate this as if I hadn't seen the movie. But I remembered talking to a friend about the movie and mentioned that if the movie was a tv-show format it would probably a 9 or a 10. But as a movie it sort of feelt like episodes mashed in together and said that judging it as a movie probably a 7 or an 8.

I've seen 3 episodes, first episode is a new one and was pretty good as treat for us who have already seen the movie. But the rest will likely just be a "Director's Cut" rather than something new. If something ... new happens I will likely remove this review.

My Opinion
Well this is just a little detailed version of the movie. The only new thing would be the first episode. I don't think much new things have been added in the anime compared to movie. Still, it's pretty good

Story 7
As I said earlier there is not much new thing in the anime. The movie was relatively fast paced compared to anime. And the anime starts off pretty slow explaining each & every small details which where not covered in movie. The good thing is that despite being slow paced the story doesn't bore at any point. So, my rating for ... story would be a 7.

Art 10
No one would argue on this. Ufotable is the best studio in animation & this shows why is it. Demon slayer had an average art style but ufotable took it to a whole new level. The animation is also amazing. So, I would give it a perfect 10 in art & animation.

Sound 8
The opening & ending where done by lisa. The was opening was really good & ending was decent. The OST's were also new & where pretty good. So, I would give this an 8 in sound.

Character 8
In the movie we didn't get to see much of rengoku. So we here we are with the series where we have a pretty good character development for rengoku. And other character had a pretty good screen time as well. So I would give a solid 8 in character.

Enjoyment 9
A pretty good OST, amazing animation & decent character development makes an anime fun to watch. Despite being relatively slow paced compared to movie this anime doesn't bore you even for a while. And I enjoyed watching it. So I would give it a 9 in enjoyment.

Overall 8
Now judging this anime as a critique. No doubt the anime is pretty good. But still it has some flaws. And few things could have improved & should have been better. But still the good things of the anime covers the bad things. So I would give this anime an 8 overall.

As of this review, there have only been 3 episodes of this section of Demon Slayer. I am aware that the remaining episodes will have 70 new animation cuts and my enjoyment will possibly rise from a 5 when the time comes. This is my review of what I have seen.


A good overview of events concerning the Demon Slayer Mugen train movie. As is usual with Ufotables adaption art, sound design and the story are of high quality. Sadly, while the original scenes integrated with the movie are good they are hitting one note. Killing a random demon. If you don't mind this I won't ... argue with you but when you have watched the movie and all the amazing repeated scenes don't excite you anymore surely you would want more from a "new section" of Demon Slayer. If you haven't watched the movie you should love this mini-season yet people who want a very original part to the series may only enjoy the remaining episodes and bar the first can possibly skip parts of the season as you would have seen it in the movie.

When I say killing a random demon I mean killing a demon with no backstory and in one episode for the sake of it. Instead of an interesting fight, you get mundane demons apart from one slightly cool demon in the first 3 episodes.

Ok where to start, well first of all I never really enjoyed the movie outside of the Akaza fight it was all just well badly written and this is basically the same thing i know what they added the 70 new cuts and scenes or what not but I couldn't tell the difference it all looked the same to me besides that first episode which was boring and nearly put me to sleep it was exactly the same.

Its not like I didn't like it all there were some things that i did enjoy as in the Akaza fight and Enmus power was acually really cool ... until they absolutly buchered what could have been a cool look into the sub conscience of Zenitsu and Innosuke but no they play it off as a comedy gag which wasn't even funny and just made me cringe. Also while they try to make you feel bad for the demon after they die and become irrelevant to the plot they didn't even try with this demon.

Nezuko at this point is just a plot device that the author can use like her power has basically no restrictions and she doesn't even have any deeper character besides im a a GOOD demon that doesn't eat people. The rest of the characters have no character progression either Tanjiro has the most progression but that's like saying a snail moves faster than a rock Innosuke still the angry nature boy and Zenitsu is still the cowardly scream your ears off wimp. Rengoku actually was a cool character a bit underused but the kinda guy that inspires the mc and i actually thought he was decent if a bit underused.

Overall I think that it was worse than then the movie cause that first anime original episode nearly made me drop it right then and there cause it was so boring. I can't say that it was completely awful and bad cause at least the Akaza fight kept my adrenaline high and I can actually appreciate him as a character cause i've read the manga when I too as a young weeb was tricked into thinking that demon slayer was a good show but unfortunately all the money they threw into that fight made the cgi look janky as hell in the train scene although i can forgive that overall besides one fight demon slayer still has paper thin characters weak story telling but god tier animation and will probably be hailed as the greatest anime of all time someday, but that's all my opinion so take it with a grain of salt

This TV version of the movie was not that bad and I don’t understand why they hate it so much. Demon Slayer Franchise have a ton of profit and you can argue that they made this TV version just for milking profit for the franchise. What's wrong with that right

Don’t worry because I will compare the movie and TV version. I for myself the movie is one of the best anime I’ve ever watched. This series might disappoint but not for me. I’m just a simple man who loves watching anime and being content on the series is good.

Story/Plot:

Since it’s almost the same with the ... movie but the Plot is still good no matter how many times you watch it. Seeing Rengoku once again is always welcome. The First episode is good since it’s original and followed by the movie with added animation cuts and new soundtrack. Even it’s repeated I still get goosebumps on the action scenes especially the fight between rengoku and akaza.

Art/Animation:
8/10
The animation of the Demon Slayer never disappoints and you can see that it has a god tier animation and I love it even after I watch the movie it still doesn’t disappoint the animation.

Character Design:
8/10
The character designs are as good as ever so I really like it no need for more elaborating on this since it is given already.

Music/Sound Track:
9/10
The music also doesn’t disappoint me since It’s LISA’S it’s always welcome and the soundtrack is as good and even better than the movie.

Enjoyment:

I enjoy it though because I already watch the movie, the excitement is not on the same level that I have while waiting for the blu ray of the movie. Still I enjoy waiting and watching it weekly.

In conclusion overall the TV series still manage to sustain the likes of the watchers especially me who loves every anime no matter what they say on that anime , it doesn’t affect me at all so one thing is clear this is good no matter what they say.
Final saying. If you just finished watching the season 1, watch this instead of the movie since, specifically speaking it’s better than the movie it just that People already loves the movie and even I. So that all.

I think the 3D animations were horribly out of place among otherwise peak of the artistic animation effects and one of the main characters was mostly one-dimensional, annoyingly larger than life without any backstory suitably explaining why, making me unable to empathize with them for the most of the story. Long shots, scenes and dialogues where nothing really happened.

The fights were, again mostly just plain boring and repetitive.

Story didn't seem very unique or interesting, little to no character development, same old over the top quirkiness that, for the most part, I've found just annoying.

I didn't watch the movie, but I wish I did instead, as ... I assume it'd be more compact and thus more enjoyable than those 7 episodes that seemed too long for the amount of the content present.

People rating this arc a 2 or lower because its a recap of the moive need to grow up.

In the future, newcomer fans of Demon Slayer are going to have a choice: to watch the movie or watch this arc. Since this 7-episode series has additional content, I feel like most would choose this over the movie

Watching a full length movie isn't the most enjoyable option for everyone, a number of people would rather watch the Train Arc episode by episode. A full length movie can be tiresome. Episode by Episode allows people to pause in between and such. The quality isn't lesser and ... the additional content is a much appreciated feature.

So yeah, just keep in mind that this arc is a retelling of the movie but in an episode-by-episode format and that the only people who give it a 2 are those who've already seen the movie. Most fans at this point in time watched the movie before this series came out, but in the future people are going to be watching this series by itself instead.

I wasn't a big fan of Demon Slayer when I first started out, the 1st episode with his family could've been done much better in my opinion, but now that I'm invested, I'm going to give this arc a 10 all around.

This is good to watch, if you haven't seen the movie. However, since the movie is available for everyone to watch now, this set of 7 episodes is really unnecessary.

Maybe they were using this as a buffer while they finished up and prepared to release the actual Season 2, which is understand. If this is not the reason though, it's just not needed to forward the anime. The first episode is the only episode that gives us more information outside of the movie for this arc. This arc is good, but it's better in the movie format the producers already made it in.

I still remember the moment I finished Mugen Train (the movie) out loud exclaiming "this feels like a two-arc TV season squashed down into a movie"... ok maybe not quite those words, but it was certainly enough to piss off my friends who thought it was the best anime movie they'd ever seen.

The movie/show itself isn't all too bad in its own right, acting as just kinda more Demon Slayer with its pisspoor characters and mediocre story backed up by stunning direction and art, but it still feels incredibly wrong how they've decided it was worth milking out as both movie and show after ... the movie already grossed so much. Would have liked to see more actual content from the franchise as much as I love being proven right about the absolute state of the movie adaptation's TV pacing.

If you really want to see more Demon Slayer there really is no good reason to watch the show adaptation of Mugen Train beyond watching a badly chopped up movie (which is already paced pretty oddly) interspliced with "To Be Continued" at the end of every 20-odd minute interval.

The ending for this broke my heart, to bits.

Let me start with review by saying, I don't care, I watched the anime version in one sititng, and I enjoyed so much of it, Rengoku's character... oh man.. I love this guy so much I built such a good relationship with him in 7ep short time..

I haven't seen Mugen Train Movie, but from what I can collect, the anime version has more to the backstory on Rengoku & better animations and so on.

I will watch the movie afterwards to see which one suits me best, but man.. this short anime was so good, ... Demon Slayer never disappoints, NEVER EVER.

The Art style is... OUT OF THIS WORLD like my god, ufotable is so amazing to do this kinda art, even the opening for such a short anime is amazing!!!

Yeah enough of me praising over the top, what made me choose a 9/10? instead of a 8 or 10?

Enmu is a weird villain, we saw him at the end of the first season as he has a unique liking to Michael Jackson, but at the same time, damn, his powers are INSANE.

What was really weird, was the sudden appearance of Akaza.
This guy just showed up and said he's the 3rd top member!? WHAT THE F-
Yeah but that was really odd, It was really out of place but of course, Enmu would be too little villains am i right?

I loved the show ultimately, it was really good.

Honestly, between the movie and the TV series, if you still have not seen either of them, just watch the movie. TV series is a movie only cut into 7 episodes. Do not get me wrong, though, it was not bad. It was just better for me to watch the movie because I didn't have to stop watching to to continue the story. For some people it will be better because if they want to stop watching, they will not have to remember the minute they left off. For others, this will be irritating, as probably had to bother with the commercials before the episode ... starts.

It is the anime version movie, with extra scenes. Very good animation, incredible music. It was very sad to see how it ends again, uf very complicated. I need the continuation and see how they kill more demons because I was very angry. I love the extra scenes, very good that do not change the story but help to give more depth to the world of anime.
It is difficult to see the same thing again with some extra scenes, the first two chapters we see how he gets to go to the train, and how he feels that something is not right. We also see ... a little more of the family and why it is as it is. There is more character development in this short anime that adapts the movie if you saw the movie and you don't remember very well, everything watching the series will help you.

Es la película versión anime, con escenas extras. Muy buena animación, la música increíble. Fue muy triste ver como otra vez como termina, uf muy complicado. Necesito la continuación y ver como matan mas demonios porque me quede muy enojado. Me encanto las escenas extras, muy buenas que no cambian la historia pero ayuda a darle mas profundidad al mundo del anime.
Es dificil volver a ver lo mismo con unas escenas extras, los primeros dos capitulos vemos como llega a ir al tren, y como siente que algo no anda bien. Tambien vemos un poco mas a la familia y porque es como es. Hay mas desarrollo de personaje en este anime corto que adapta la pelicula si viste la pelicula y no te acordas muy bien todo mira la serie te va a ayudar.

Outside of the first episode, you're honestly better off just watching the movie. It's just a far better experience for the same story.

- The voice acting is almost the same, but it's great (I think the English Dub is actually better)
- The soundtrack is slightly different but it's still great

I really still enjoyed the anime but the movie was just overall a better experience. I don't understand why they "needed" to do a 7 episode recap of the movie over 2 months outside of big ... money earnings but here we are.

I hate rating this a 10 because they literally just decided let's make season 2 a recap of the movie, but man after watching it again and just remembering all the feelings from the movie grabbed my heart. I feel like I should rate it a 9, but the story was a 10, Art is awesome as usual, sound was used really well, the characters are really unique and can get attached to them. Especially Rengoku towards the end, and I mean I enjoyed it, so there's nothing to judge or hate about it, so all I can really do is rate it a 10 ... even if I somehow feel somewhere it could be a 9

This season is literally just a recap of the movie showing the events of the Mugen Train arc from beginning to end. I suppose it makes sense if the viewers didn't watch the movie as that way they could move straight to this from the first season and not miss any content, but it also makes the movie completely unnecessary and just another cash grab over anything else, which is a real shame. Much like the first season of the show, this just didn't really do much for me. Nothing really stood out as good or bad - it was just fairly mediocre.

I am more concerned about the content of the first episode that is extra in the TV version.

On the bright side, the first episode didn't go straight into Tanjiro's point of view to get on the train like the theatrical version but instead chose to spend some time introducing our Flame Hashira, which allowed for a richer presentation of the character.
