The Night Beyond The Tricornered Window is undoubtedly my favorite BL anime. No offense on fans of other BLs, of course. But Tricornered Window is just so good, it has horror, mystery, and boy the fanservice is just right for me. (After finishing the anime, make sure that you read the manga! The anime may feel a bit rushed, and the manga would let you understand the plot a lot better.

Mikado Kousuke is the protagonist, he's a bookstore clerk who is a literal package. He's cool, cute, shy, brave, hot, and if you read the manga, then you'd see just how much of a husband ... material he is. (He makes many, 'interesting' faces while exorcising, 10/10 very erotic.)

Hiyakawa Rihito is Mikado's love interest. You may not like him during the early episodes, but when you reach the end of the series, you'd see that he's the softest boy that we all need to protect.

Oh yeah, they did all sort of exorcising stuff, tho I would say that the anime give off a different vibe compared to the manga. The anime is more, mysterious, sexual tension, and tense. The manga? Oh, boi, the comedy, extra chapters, and their slow and steady love development makes me feel all sorts of things. Lol, I just realized that I've been talking about the manga more than the anime. But yeah pls read it. Best site to read it is on MangaGo.

Okay, now please let me rant. I'm baffled when I saw that 6.4 rating at the time when I'm rating this. Most people that gave those low ratings said that they didn't expect this to be BL-ey, they were only expecting a typical mystery anime. Like tf??? Please ignore those reviews, Sankaku Mado No Sotogawa Wa Yoru is very astounding and unique.

For those that aren't happy cuz this is a BL, do you not read the genre of this anime? Like, imagine if I give Tomoe a 2/10 rating because it's scary, even though it's a horror anime. Of course, my rating shouldn't be valid, right?

This anime is a new thing in the BL community, most BL just focus on the romance, sappy stuff, and fap material. I do think that Tricornered Window deserves at least an 8/10 rating. And I don't wanna hear y'all saying that my review sucks, I know it is.

As a fan of the manga who loves it very, very much, I'm honestly rather disappointed by the adaptation. Yes, only 4 episodes have aired, so I am hoping my enjoyment will increase since I know the plot will eventually pick up.

Story: 8
Obviously I'm biased because I read the manga so I appreciate the plot more than others and know what is to come. The general premise as mentioned by others is that two guys go around and do exorcisms and are also in the process of trying to help a detective solve a long-running murder case. There is a large element of BL in ... the way the exorcisms are conducted, and in how submissive Mikado is to Hiyakawa in all elements of their "relationship". I admit that I myself wasn't too into the story around this part of the manga and didn't really know what direction the plot was going in, but I know very well it will get better, thus why I give a generous 8. I will update if I don't feel the anime does the entire story justice.

Art: 5
Honestly, was expecting a lot better. I loved the art in the manga and the anime just does not cut it. It seems cheap and just...off in a way. I hate to be so critical but I'm just so disappointed. The creepy, dark moments in the manga are drawn beautifully but the anime is just not as effective.

Sound: 8
Nothing major to say, I overall think the OST is quite good and fits the tone very well. Definitely a highlight of the anime. Not too big of a fan of the opening, but I think the ending is great. Really good choice of voice actors too.

Character: 6.5
At this point of the anime, the two leads definitely don't seem too remarkable. I don't know what it is about the anime, but I don't enjoy Hiyakwa's character as much as in the manga. He comes off as controlling, creepy, and a little too weird. Mikado is very submissive and sometimes it's a little ridiculous to see how easily he goes along with what Hiyakawa says. I know that their characters will become better once their backstories are delved into, and I really hope the anime does a good job on that.

Enjoyment: 8
I'm generous with this because seeing it animated makes me happy nonetheless, but man do I wish it were better executed. My main issue is the pacing being wayyy too fast. I get that they only have 12 episodes but it's clear that they want to cram all 10 volumes into the season and I just don't think it's working that well. I think the characters need more time to expand upon their chemistry together and to flesh out the world in general. It just feels like you're thrust right into it all and there's just one thing after another happening so fast. But, it is still entertaining and interesting to watch. If I was unaware of the story, I would be quite curious to see what is going to happen next.

If more time, care, and money were put into the anime, I feel like it could have been soooo much better than what we got. It's decent overall and it's nice to have a BL anime that has an interesting supernatural plot. But...it genuinely feels lacking. I hope that it will become better as it goes on, and will for sure update this review if I believe it does. Or if it gets worse. In general, at this point I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone unless you've read the manga or just enjoy watching any and all types of BL.

This anime is the least gay BL I’ve ever seen, but it’s also one of the most interesting.

The main draws of this show, to me, are the mystery elements and supernatural themes. The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window maintains a surprising amount of suspense in each episode, with well-edited sequences and a sinister atmosphere. While watching, I often found myself impressed by how tense certain scenes could be; Tricornered Window stands out among other BL anime for being quite competently directed.

The characters also develop pretty differently from other BL stories. Much of the focus is placed on how the characters’ psychic powers affect their interpersonal ... relationships, especially with family members. This results in a cast that feels rather fresh and intriguing, which I really appreciated.

Unfortunately, my praise ends there. The overall story is pretty lackluster, mainly due to some pacing issues that leave a lot of things unexplained. By the end of the final episode, I still didn’t quite understand how psychic powers function in the world of Tricornered Window. The motivations of certain characters were also difficult to follow at times, which made some storylines confusing.

My biggest issue with the anime, however, is how unfulfilled it left me by the end. So much time is spent building up the relationship between Mikado and Rihito, but there isn’t much payoff. The narrative feels reluctant to commit to a romance between the two characters, with Mikado even insisting at one point that he and Rihito aren’t romantically involved. Besides the ever-present tension between the two leads, there isn’t a whole lot of love between boys in this supposed Boys’ Love anime.

Though Tricornered Window does a lot of things differently, making it stand out among BL anime, it ultimately left me feeling a bit hollow. I really enjoyed the spookier scenes, but other than that, the show failed to make much of an impression. It’s better than most BL anime, but still not that great, unfortunately.

The lack of information in the beggining makes it confusing, but makes you empathize better with one of the main character.

Over all, most of the episodes it's you trying to pull together all the information they are giving and trying to understand what the hell is going on, wich makes it tough to watch.

Even so it all comes together in the last episodes, making this anime very good, not only because by then you'll understand what is happening, but because if you analise it from the psicological and social part of it, and you empathize with the characters you'll understand what mental illness would look ... like if it could be used as something dangerous

This anime starts out... weird. Somehow even though it was very weird it captivated me and somehow made me keep watching it. To be honest i was a bit shocked after some things turned almost 'BL'. (I was not expecting that, i thought it would just be a detective kind of story.)

Due to that suprising fact it made me keep watching even more and fortunately after a weak start of the anime, it made me super interested in continueing to watch. The lore behind this was more than expected, even some small plot twists already.

I certainly can understand if someone dislikes these tyoes of anime's ... but i recommend you watch atleast 5 episodes before you create a conclusion or review.

I think the story is really good even though the anime did not have a good start or introduction. The relationship between the characters are quiestionable but from someone with experience in toxic relationships it was also very interesting to see things from an outsiders perspective. Many people do not understand my take but the relationship the main duo have actually pulled on some of my heart strings and it was somehow very relatable what happens between them.

I was about to dump this anime due to the artstyle being mediocre and me not understanding how a weird encounter can be a good story; but i gave it a chance and i can not wait till the next episodes come out, really.

I don't write many reviews but after seeing hoe people already had formed a solid opinion after only 4 episodes i decided i had to chip in my opinion.

It is definitly a recommendation if you can see it from a comedy mystery side instead of watching it very seriously. The graphics may be lower than your run-off-the-mill anime blockbuster, but it is the lore and the story that counts.

I think it is a very creative story and a very creative concept. It makes me laugh every episode.

Minor spoilers for the show.

Although I would definitely agree that the manga is better than the anime, the anime has its own charm, and it’s a nice addition to the manga, where you can see the characters move around (and in color). The anime also makes certain scenes clearer, and certain dialogue moments more understandable as to who’s talking, which makes their emotional weight stronger. There’s also at least one added scene early on that makes a character’s actions more regular than random, as they are in the manga. The music is also pretty, and the Japanese VAs all did a good job.

The anime is ... quite accurate, though the show compressed the story a great deal in an attempt to fit 10 tankobon into 12 episodes, and though it’s not the most complex of stories (though it IS complex), that’s a lot of material to squish into that few 20ish-minute episodes, with time given to OPs and EDs every episode. Chapters are frequently chopped up and stuck together in ways that save time while getting the meat of the chapter on-screen. At least five chapters are almost if not entirely cut. It’s not the greatest loss, though one was a nice shippy chapter that would have been appropriate for a BL-marked anime that people question the reasoning for marking as BL. There’s another early chapter that’s massively cut in a way that makes it not make sense to someone who hasn’t read the manga.

In many ways the anime art feels like a visual downgrade from the manga art, which is by and large better. Overall the entire cast is better looking in the manga.

There are some nice things the anime does, visually. In the ED, there’s a moment that makes it appear through a creative transition as if Hiyakawa has dissolving wings, which is pretty neat. And there are little story spoilers in the OP visuals, which is a nice touch, though not something I think someone unfamiliar with the manga or who hasn’t seen the show once already would recognize. And without the manga for comparison, the show’s not bad looking. The animation is pretty, by and large, fluid, and the style’s decent.

On its own, this is still the same story by and large as what’s in the manga, and it’s a good story, with great characters, and decent art. The supernatural world setup is interesting, and the reflections on cults, brainwashing, child abuse, neglect, and dealing with childhood trauma as an adult are solid. There’s also a strong theme that without communication (and consent), things we do to purportedly protect other people can be harmful not only to those we seek to protect, but also to ourselves. There are a lot of BL innuendos rather than just sex you’d find in other series, though there’s a lot of touching and specific body language (and the innuendos get very specific).

The central character relationship is compelling, particularly if you’re into dubcon, though the manga’s relatively strong focus on talking about consent kind of got lost in adaptation, I guess (it’s still there, kind of, and the dynamic fluctuates with who holds the reins). Around them are an array of neat characters and relationships, and they all get development over the course of the story (Sakaki is one of my favorite characters). The pro-cop stuff is still there, which is a bit disappointing, but the story’s also kind of ambiguous in places and focuses a bit on restorative justice, so… win-win I guess? There’s also a bit of humor throughout, and it increases as the story goes.

All in all, it’s a solid short BL supernatural story with some horror elements (I don’t go for horror at all and I was largely fine) and some fun character dynamics and development, with some great narrative themes. I would still suggest reading the manga first. It’s also short, and even better, enjoyment-wise (also the BL aspect is more obvious).

Being on the second-to-last episode of the series I decided to write a review (first time in years lol) because I'm sad how mediocre the average score is for this anime.

I think the story is interesting, especially if you're into the recent uptake in demon-related action stories that are very popular right now (I totally am)! Although this is not about demons per-say, it belongs to a similar genre that's more dependent on psychological manipulation and the human soul/body and stuff. I think all of the characters are interesting and I think the tension between the two mains is interesting, actually I wish this was ... a longer series so we could see the character development unfold more with the whole cast! They have thought-out and unique backgrounds and personalities and every one of them helps drive the story forward. They all seem to have their purpose for the plot, and I find that a sign of a good show. The plot itself is creepy and cool, a little misleading at times but in the "damn a cliffhanger" kind of way.

I find the innuendo really amusing, but don't be misled into thinking that is somehow the entire shtick of the show because it isn't at all! It's just a fun and silly addition, and I'm thankful how this anime isn't making LGBTQ+ innuendo into some harmful outdated joke. It's genuinely silly and between two characters who *maybe* are into each other.

I don't have much an opinion on art and sound. Although I watch a decent amount of anime I don't have any professional takes there. The OP is catchy, the art style is good and dynamic and that's really all I ask for. One character is plain looking but that's part of his twisted inner dialogue, and it plays well with the traditionally cuter character who is a little plain in his personality. No qualms there.

All in all I agree with people calling this show under rated! If I were you I'd give it a go and watch a few episodes in a row before judging it or trusting the average score here (currently a low 6). Depending on how the final episode wraps up I'd say it could go for a second season!

I have not read the original story, so on that end I can't say if it's rushed or not. In my opinion, the plot being a little rushed in the beginning of any anime depends on the genre and what year it comes out. I don't think a 12 ep anime has the leisure to give us full backgrounds on deep stories and worlds the same way a 24 ep one does/the original manga does. I do not rate anime I have not nearly or completely finished, and I tend to rate anime higher than the average (I rarely rate anything "bad" or under because if I think it is bad I just stop watching it).

This is probably one of the few anime I've seen that I can't tell if I like it or not. I do appreciate a BL when i come across one and often find them either being creepy or cute, sometimes even both, as odd as that can sound. This one was a very hit or miss in my opinion. For the short summary, do I think you should go out of your way to watch it? No, not really.

Story
- I like the premise. ... I find the jobs they do to be very interesting and quite creepy at times. Although I definitely feel like they rushed into it, I suppose there are a handful of anime that start off very quickly like this but I feel this time it didn't flow nearly as well as it should've, I often got confused and had to re-watch multiple scenes but maybe that's just a me problem. I'd prefer if they had spent a good amount of time getting into his life currently before introducing Hiyakawa and gradually get him into the exorcist lifestyle over the first few episodes rather than being like "hey you're gonna work for me cause you have good eyesight" "okay".

Art/ animation
- It gives me very much early 2000's vibes. It's not that I dislike the art style, it's just not my favorite. The animation is nothing breath taking. Not good nor bad. I realize I never really have anything specific to say but that's because I don't see anything particular to bring up. It was just meh to look at; sometimes certain angles that could have been proportioned better threw me off as well.

Sound
- Most of the experience was average. I appreciate the realism of sound in some of the scenes like what it sounds like to talk through glass, the wind, and even fear. I was not a fan of the opening. I feel the visuals didn't fit the show itself and music got annoying once you heard it over and over again. I suppose it can be common in anime songs, where they are completely random to the show, but i prefer when the OP's have the same tone as the show, I don't care as much when it's the ending. (JJK is a good example).

Characters
- None of them ever stood out to me. Hiyakawa was creepy and possessive (which is the point) and Mikado relied on him too much. Mukae in a way, was plain(although I sourta liked him) and Erika was overall the most enjoyable. I do like how mysterious the characters are, especially Hiyakawa and find myself being interested when learning more about him. Every other character seemed to blend in and I easily forgot about them.

Overall
- Every episode felt the same. I wouldn't say it's a poor excuse for a BL but there are definitely others I would recommend before this. The two main characters dynamic does get better over time but I keep finding myself disliking Hiyakawa. This anime is nothing special and almost want to read the manga to see how it compares. There's was very little that made it stick out to me and only kept watching it to see what would happen to Mikado seeing as though is love interest was so toxic, even said in the anime. The BL aspect is definitely there but I never found myself wishing they would fall in the and grow old together like I did with others, even ones where the love interest was never deliberately pointed out.

Conclusion
- I try to find good things to say about every anime I watch but this was a hard one. It was mediocre at best. I will be finishing it based on the fact that I'm already this far and a part of me hopes the last couple of episodes will give it redemption. I really really wanted to like this one, based on the fact that the plot is something I'd love; but was sadly disappointed.

For shows like these, no matter the concept and story telling. If you're going to have a duo lead the line, then you best make sure that they mesh well together, and can really push the show forward. In this case, it falls flat and misses so many marks. If the characters don't mesh together, or the chemistry is seriously lacking. Then certain scenes are going to be left awkward, and uninteresting by default. If you wanna see a better driven BL kind of show, then you are in the wrong place, and it would be better to watch something else.

Now that's not to say ... the show is a complete awful mess. When it really isn't. The art and animation that goes along with it, is one of it's more stronger points. Even if it is let down from the story, that makes it less tense, and honestly, it doesn't give off any tense feeling at all. Imagine a Saw Movie, and in the middle of it, they just suddenly went and made flirting on one another in a sunny setting. It feels out of place. It works for some shows, but for this, it doesn't work at all. But I will have to give props to some very creative and interesting backgrounds, and how the spooky stuff looks overall.

The sounds for this show aren't anything to scream at, but they do their job in each and every setting. Which is not only what you expect within an anime, but what should be within an anime. Can't say anything more about that.

As for the characters themselves? We have Kosuke Mikado, who has the ability to see ghosts. Meanwhile, Rihito Hiyakawa has the ability to hear and exorcise them through a medium. Which of course is Mikado. As I've already spoken about through this review, is that the characters don't really mesh well. It's as if one sees it as they were destined to be partners, while the other disagrees kind of vibes. Sure, it could get better. But it just feels poor. Just take the first episode for instance. Of how weird and awkward it seems through their interactions. It's...Something lmao.

I might be a bit too harsh on this, as I do find that it does have an interesting premise, but it just lacks of certain emotions, that other shows do so much better. Even a show like Pet had a bit of BL, but that had more tension then this does. Be careful with this, I'd give it a shot, but if it's not for you after a few episodes, then move on from it.

I'm not a fan of BL/Yaoi nor its counterpart of Yuri/Lesbian-made works, but I do know how to spot a good show if the source material is ever that good. And alongside the much superior Mieruko-chan that aired together at the same time, Sankaku Mado no Sotogawa wa Yoru a.k.a The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window was in overall stance, a rather "complete" but incomplete, cheap and poor adaptation of Tomoko Yamashita's BL manga that's still the superior version of the source material.

The supernatural, paranormal, mystery BL story lies within the context of 2 guys: Kousuke Mikado and Rihito Hiyakawa. The former being Mr. Triangle ... (his name was written that way) and like Mieruko-chan's Miko Yotsuba, has the ability to see spirits and is afraid of them, but unlike Miko, he can suppress his ability by wearing glasses to compensate for his normalcy while living a low-profile life at a bookstore. That is until the attention of the latter caught his eye, the abnormal fearless medium/exorcist that professes his "love" for him and says that "fate interwines us to be together" by working together in exorcist cases whenever and wherever they arise.

I know that BL or even Yuri stories can get very personal and creeped out, and that is how you're supposed to see the relationship between Kousuke and Rihito. Despite all the caressing of the soul through Rihito's know-how that he could see and exorcise spirits by entering into Mikado's body, that is essentially the crux of the starting phase until the plot starts getting better with the BL segments being overshadowed. And this plot takes them to the central story of a girl named Erika Hiura working as a mercenary necromancer who's acting maliciously and cursing people, whom in the process, dives deep into Rihito's history of a secretive past. It doesn't take one to notice quick that the story plot is favoured in place of the BL (though later on it exists periodically), which is a nice segue for the majority of the female fans looking forward to the more "extraterrestrial" feelings that contributed to the likeness of the manga.

Sadly though, as compared to the manga, Zero-G's adaptation really just keeps bearing on with miss after miss. Starting off with the main characters, as much as I want to believe that each and every person contributes to the way that the story plot is woven, they don't really have any personality whatsoever other than the roles they're meant to play. And Tomoko Yamashita is not your ordinary mangaka as she has been writing lots of BL manga circa. 2005 with her own distinct flare of combining poignant settings with well-written characters, so to see that all dumbed down and wasted in the "complete" anime adaptation is really a shame. The production values are rather cheap and not that all enticing, even if it meant to give that creepy, grotesque vibe of lingering spirits being controlled by people that have powers that can do all sorts of things. Also, having people like Evan Call be the music composer isn't simply enough anymore, as it also didn't really stand out for the same issues as other aspects did. At least the OST was kinda decent, but I like the gloominess of Wataru Hatano's ED more than Frederic's OP which just serves to preface Kousuke's triangle-centric profoundness.

It goes without saying that if more time and care were given to this show, then it could've turned out decent at best. It's really nice to have more BL stories be adapted with the paranormal plot like this, but sadly the more I watch this show, the lesser attention span I got back for retaining values as well. Definitely stick to the manga, it's the original, definitive version and the better time-waster than this crude adaptation.

Not gonna lie, i thought this is gonna be pure BL since its been recommendable recent in fujoshi community. But i think its kindddd offff fair but kindaaa off not. I will say this, its SUPER DUPER GAY in ONLY just in the beginning but it kinda slowly show that no, this is NOT BL.

If you watch for like 1st few episodes, yes this is about 2 men who just happen kinda look sexually exorcist some bad omen / spirits. I think THATS why it look like BL. Its kinda a waste and a bummer cuz imagine people watching this are not fujoshi, they'll be ... weirded out and quit watching this. I dont blame anyone who not fan of GAY SEXUALIZATION stop watching cuz i cant blame em for their preference duh. But the story behind itself actually interesting (i getit ppl think this kind of sixth sense/horror/cursed/gore story is mediocre but i do like this kind of story)

I wanna say it such a waste they just slapped you with some GAYNESS from start despite just losing some non-bl lover fan for the story already. And then proceed to some NORMAL syet at nearly the end which dissapointed some fujoshis. Yes i felt like they have forgotten BL when episode nearly end. But i'll admit, the couple arent romantic in slightest. I also kinda feel like, no, maybe they just friend, so the BL tag is only becuz of sexualize action between 2 men and yes only to exorcise.

Do i think they actually fall in love with each other?
No, im may be fujoshi and shipper but i have my sense on character/people feelings. The blond guy just straight up go to the mc and said hes his destiny but that just another word for he need help since the mc is the only one that have 6th sense and have pure mind(kindness and all you know like other mc). Theres no such thing as 'i love you' or 'i do it for u'. That poor blond guy just needed friend cux he never had one. Yeah2 i will read the manga, im here only talk about the anime not the manga dumbass.

i was so ready to hate on this, and after 4 chapters i was calling it "mob psycho if it was writed by a 15 YO that only consumes BL", but i kept watching because i was interested in the paranormal aspect of the series, and i'm glad i did, because i enjoyed the rest of this, but man , for context i've never seen nor i'm interested in watch a BL Anime, so i started watching this not knowing that, and i cringed at the fan fic/doujin level of dialogue this had, i was ready to call it, and leave it after one episode, ... but my sister told me, let's give it a try, maybe they tone down the next chapter, they didn't tone it down, by chapter 4 i was tired, that most of the dialogue between the main characters were mostly lines that read like double meanin jokes, but then chapter 5 came and it felt like a diferent show, and i kept watching and the BL bait was mostly gone, but was out of the show enough for me to not be cringed by how awful the "romance" was, this thing it's so hard to recommend, because i kinda fw the themes they were trying to convey, but those 4 first episodes are a big turn off if you don't like BL, but even if you like bl, those 4 chapters are way to cringy when they're tying to be gay, and you know what's the funniest thing? they're not gay, at least that's what one of them say, so it's just a big queer bait, like it was there just to try to gather attention, so it's very disingenuous, but if you tolerate the first 4 chapters, it's a pretty enjoyable series, not amazing, but entertaining, that by the end of it , i was satisfied with it's finale

I'm gonna say it - it's hardly a BL. It really doesn't feel like one, and I'm not sure if I should be angry at the queer-baiting, or disappointed it doesn't use the source material better.

I entered this anime with no ideas whatsoever. I was told it was a BL, I saw the trailers, and that was it. I thought it was a great concept and I was excited for a BL with an actual plot alongside their relationship.

First off, if you don't know the manga, you'll be pretty confused. There are scenes that are awkward and quiet, and overall the plot couldn't ... really keep me because I realized how little I actually cared for the characters.

I've heard there's lot in the manga, the live-action, and the novel that are way better than this and really explain things clearer. Which begs the question, why bother watching the anime if you need the rest to really enjoy it?

Maybe this rubbed me the wrong way since I didn't enjoy Psycho-pass or cop animes like that. But it didn't have the mystery or the narrative driving it forwards. Honestly, I couldn't even tell you what they did in most of the episodes of this show, and I'm so concerned by that fact - that I'm worrying if I've even watched it. That is how little really happens.

Maybe I'm being cruel, but it was the most disappointing show this season. Hopefully Sasaki to Miyano next month will be better.

For me, it's really good, I don't really mind the other stuff such as the animation, since the CG is kinda off, like in eps 2? but the plot saves it, some people might not enjoy their chemistry right now, but I think they are perfect.

I'm also invested in the supernatural part of the show and of course, in our main characters, I like them in a way that they give me butterflies, and when you have that kind of feeling it's not good, the guy (yellow-haired) is a walking red flag!!!, but what's new? I love red ahahahahahah, I also like the mood ... of the animation, it is very gloomy and the colors aren't saturated, I'm really invested to see them solve this stuff in the next episodes, I just like them, the yellow-haired guy is a wolf in a sheep clothing and Mikado kun is so innocent, man I'm a sucker for that dynamics, I just hope we can have a season 2, I'm also planning to read the manga. I just hope that my level of excitement won't be affected after reading it, thanks.

Ok so just for context, I haven’t read the manga and I went into this with absolutely no idea what to expect.

I won’t go as far as saying this anime is bad. I am only 4 and a half episodes in at the time of this review so to be too critical as of right now probably isn’t justified. With that being said I really only have continued watching this far because I feel that they’ve done a really great job setting up a world with potentially interesting characters, story, and supernatural abilities.

Now, to get into why I think this anime is struggling ... (at least as of right now). For starters, the animation is not as great as it could potentially be. I am unsure about what the supernatural abilities look like in the manga, but I would certainly hope they are more interesting than what we see in the anime. It’s not terrible, but it just seems so lackluster. I feel like they do put more effort into the characters and environment which makes for a pleasant overall viewing experience, but it’s hard to get excited about the supernatural aspect of this anime when it’s not really delivering onscreen.

Another frustrating aspect is the BL aspect of this anime. *sigh* I have seen a lot of BL and there’s nothing more frustrating than seeing two characters, set up to be love interests, only to fall into a very unhealthy relationship dynamic. I will avoid spoiling the exact details of the BL dynamic presented in this anime but in summary it presents as being unhealthy and quite uncomfortable to watch in many scenes. One character knows very little about supernatural abilities other than his natural ability and yet his counterpart seems to know an incredibly vast amount, yet never shares. It wouldn’t be that big of an issue if he didn’t frequently use his knowledge and experience to keep his partner in the dark and literally manipulate him into performing how he desires. Thankfully there hasn’t been any non consensual sexual activity depicted, however, some scenes involving the use of their supernatural abilities are very uncomfortable to watch and would most definitively be considered non consensual within the context of sexual activity.

My final critisicm would be that the characterization is really lacking so far. As I said earlier the characters themselves seem very interesting but from the perspective of someone who hasn’t read the manga, I know literally nothing about them. Despite not doing a great job of showing the nature and intentions of the characters we are observing onscreen, they somehow do a fairly good job at showing interesting conversations/moments between characters. The issue with that is that i’m left with the feeling of ‘oh that seemed really meaningful’ without really knowing why it should have felt meaningful.

I will continue watching through the end of the season because I feel like there really is a lot of potential for great things. I don’t even personally need the animation to be anything amazing as long as these characters are given some much needed backstory and development. The story really only has the potential to be great if the characters that drive it are likeable or at least intriguing to watch develop and grow so I really hope things improve.

TL;DR
Not terrible, but it is a somewhat confusing watch through so far and it does suffer from some unhealthy & very annoying BL tropes. With that being said, these issues and the story/characters have potential to improve and develop into something really cool!

My first impression of this anime was that it had to have originated as some sort of Mob Psycho 100 fanfiction. The similarities between Hiyakawa and the character of Reigen from Mob Psycho are what originally had me making this comparison. Character-design-wise, both Hiyakawa and Reigen have light-colored hair and wear gray-colored suits and both are professional “psychics,” though Reigen lacks the actual abilities Hiyakawa has. There was even a scene in The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window where another character criticizes Hiyakawa’s “fake” polished look, pointing out his cheap suit and haircut to belittle him. If I’m recalling correctly, a similar scene happened between ... Reigen and a side character in Mob Psycho.

Despite its similarities, The Night Beyond the Tricolored Window does hold its own when it comes to the actual story. The exorcisms and cleansings the main characters go on have some seriously creepy visuals that warrant this anime’s horror tag, and as the series progresses the two begin uncovering a chain of curses that all seem tied to one person and the real plot begins.

Hiyakawa and Mikado also have a budding relationship that shifts from some rather cringe sex jokes in the first few episodes of the show to the two of them having to trust each other with their spiritual health and help each other to heal their past traumas.

I didn’t originally have very high hopes for this anime, but it managed to pleasantly surprise me. Ultimately, I rated this anime a 7/10.

Honestly probably gonna end up being one of my favorites and not cause it's a BL but even if it wasn't, story is genuinely interesting. The supernatural and horror elements blew me away like some parts actually were somewhat scary too, but I am also just a huge pussy so its not hard but still. Honestly did not expect the animation to be this good too, honestly I really love the plot and the mystery it unraveled. It did actually entertain me and does need more recognition because the characters are likeable. I loved Erica and her bodyguard like yassss serve girlboss. Honestly all the ... supernatural elements were so cool to see, I love this series but idk I want to see more but I'm gonna be totally honest, did not get like 1/4 of the shit that was happening but I will read the manga and see how good it is.

The Night Before the Tricornered Window Destiny was an extremely pleasant surprise. I am a big fan of BL anime, and went into this not expecting very much from the story or characters. A lot of BL anime are watered down yaoi, and tend to have a very weak story that mostly hinges upon angst between the main characters.

This show was an exception to that generalization. The story is refreshing and unique, centering on the occult and mediums and the powers they possess. The entire cast is well done and well-rounded, making the show as well as the ending feel fulfilling and worthwhile.

Yes, ... there are some BL moments, mostly in the beginning. And while the first episode really lays the BL on thick, the show and the main characters really are more about bonding and understanding each other's character, rather than lust or attraction. It was really very refreshing.

The animation style was definitely a call-back to older anime, and had a particularly 90's feel to it. It wasn't low-budget, but it didn't have any of the really stunning animation that the big budget shows get. That being said, I thought the animation was consistent and didn't take away from the story at all.

Overall, I think this show deserves a much higher rating. The story is very interesting and has a great ending, and the characters are really enjoyable to watch. I would highly recommend this show, especially to BL fans as it has the elements but uses them in a more fulfilling way than other shows!

I'll give credit where it's due in that there's not many examples of a BL & supernatural genre crossover nowadays, which is a pity because when it's done right it can be so good but here we have a below-average production. The pacing of each episode is so fast there's never any room for the plot or character development to breathe. The sexual component of the exorcisms is an interesting addition but comes across as more comedic and awkward rather than erotic, again a side-effect of the show's terrible pacing that fails to allow any tension to build up. At three episodes in I have ... no reason to care about these characters or the mystery that's surrounding Erika Hiura or Hiyakawa's motivations and at this point I've wasted enough of my time.

Sankaku is a story about 2 individuals with some bl elements here and there. That what intrigued me at first, the bl tag, in the end it wasn’t a romance. But it was still a pleasant story with some problems

Story:
A horror bl ? Count me in ! That said the story is quite nice to follow but around the end we had pacing problems. Things were going too quick for their own good. We also had many flashbacks which made things hard to follow. The ghost stuff was also kinda difficult to understand in addition to flashbacks. The story was too complex ... for its own good. The end felt rushed because we had very little to catch up with the story after all of those flashbacks.

Art:
Damn that’s rough. The art is alright at the start but as the episodes continued the art was getting worse. It’s a shame because they had a lot of interesting ideas in terms of presentation, especially at the end. It’s also disappointing because they had a very nice horror feel to it but with this janky art it wasn’t that fear inducing. Sad to see that this small adaptation don’t get a lot of care.

Sound:
A nice cast overall and I have to say that Hatano-san did a fantastic job dubbing Hiyakawa. He was very in character, with a creepy/unsettling thing to his voice. The ops and ends were awesome. People put a lot of care in the sound aspect of this anime.

Characters:
Finally a developped female character in a bl ! That said, I really liked the characters. Mikado was a bit flat at the start but evolved into a more pleasant character. Hiyakawa is far from being a cliché, never seen such unique personality. Speaking of our two male leads, I was afraid at first that their relationship would end up toxic, seeing how mikado was like the puppy of Hiyakawa. Gladly that changed for the best, each one relaying on the other.

Enjoyement:
I must say I laughed. There were a lot of scenes that looked like they belonged to a more steamy yaoi that were played for comedy. It looked like that one corset scene in Black butler. I also enjoyed a lot the horror elements in there (especially Erika's powers).

Overall:
One thing it lacks is a good animation, so if you're interested and don't mind the look of it I would say go for it. They did a nice anime but they could have made a great one.
