The best Shoujo anime that aired before 2005

A selection of animes with the USA as their main setting. Some anime do a better job depicting this setting than others. Some opt for a accurate as possible depiction, others take an idealized view, while others make you wonder if the creators have ever been to or even seen America.

Shows that Masami Okui has sung in, has been credited in, or is plainfully obvious that it's her. (ex: Akazukin Chacha)

Kinda unpopular anime that for some reason are unpopular and more people should watch it.

As far as I'm concerned there's an anime about pretty much everything if you look hard enough: diving, underwear design, insurance investigation (yup!) and don't even get me started on cooking. So there, picked titles with main characters directly involved and at least some focus on whatever they're doing for a living or a hobby or both.

These are very safe for me. TW for Nana and Perfect Blue as it treats sensitive topics.

My humble takes on the best Shoujo/Josei drama,comedy and romance anime :)

Shoujo anime that may contain body horror, cosmic horror and various horror elements, serious topics such as rape and suicide. They might use different kind of storytellings most of other shoujo anime doesn't and more likely to have philosophy. Often well developed main characters, old and completed series.

Shoujo/Josei anime I recommend watching
