Log Horizon: Entaku Houkai

Ok, after the last season , Studio Deen, decides to make a 3rd sequel 4 years after the 2nd season. Thought seasons 1 and 2 had been great, this 3rd season was just a PTW......So, let's get er done:

Story-Mediocre 5: Cu'z it was just the usual thing...alotta blah, blah and blah, do something to pass the time like going to a quest or do some round table business all that stuff.....bottom line nothing has change and they're still stuck in that game, the only game changer here is when a couple of green horned adventurers were able to climb up the ladder after ... being successful with their first raid battle, Corwen, Rayneshia El-Arte who was able to prove that she isn't just any pretty face princess where she able to prove that she has leadership skill and was able to run a gov't and there is that Minori confessing to Shiroe but got turned down and we already know who Shiroe likes.

Art-Mediocre 5: Still same character illustration, no swim suit service and no fanservices either.

Sound-Mediocre 5: Same seiyuu and no convincing opening and closing theme.

Character- Mediocre 5: Nothing to say around here, since nothing has change when it comes to the character's personality.

Enjoyment-Mediocre 5: Too mediocre that I was able to simply just skimmed some episode.

Overall-Mediocre 5: Don't ask...another sequel?????I wish I could say "Don't even think about it bitch" but it looks like there is one in the works.

In genuine honesty, the first 5 episodes were like a nice podcast, nothing really happened, it was fine and my day continued onward. Episodes 5-7 if I remember were fine.... After so is when the problems started, this writing is so draining to listen to and the comedy does not hit for me. 8-9 were so drawn out I literally skipped parts of it just to get it over with, sometimes even wishing to hear the ending theme. (BTW the OP and ED are fantastic, very misleading as it comes off as very hype). After 8-9 it picked up the slightest bit for the writing ... to crash then later. I don't enjoy the way the child adventurers act on screen at all, and having a season full of them is part of my annoyance. The animation was very poor and at best upper mediocre. I enjoyed seeing a season of the older characters but this could've been Krusty's OVA and done in 2-3 episodes and had left plot for the season, which it was severely lacking.

This really could've been like 3-4 episodes of the relevant plot. I do not understand the high scores for this at all, it stops being political and relevant after episode 5.

I first got into Log Horizon because it was something different. There was some action, yes. But here we found more emphasis on world-building and character. If your mind wanders without the big fight of the week, Season Three is really gonna hurt.
Season one introduced the world of Log Horizon and its characters. It established the story and carried much of that momentum into the second season. While good, this third season lacked a lot of that drive that kept me waiting impatiently for that next episode to arrive. This may be in no small part due to the stacked season it had the misfortune ... to air in. Regardless, there really did seem to be less strength this time around.

I cant believe i gonna say this but this season was bad for me. it trie so hard to please everyone but i cannot watch another episode because it feel like i watching filler instead the show. the season 1 and season 2 was very greta to me almost being a masterpiece because of the dilema that the player memory will be erase if they died in the game or the issue tha some kingdom want to invade other kingdom because of the land and they hire some player to do that to invade kingdom, i remeber that there was 2 war, the goblin king ... event that happen in season 1 to season 2 and the invasion of monster and player from other land that we see in season 2. while watchin this season.....i dont see that war or the issue that i see in season 2 that was never explain and i was hoping to see that but sadly i never see that, i know i drop the serie and not completed this season but it cant watch another episode tha feel much filler, i know the speak about it but i want to see that event than to heard it.

tl;dr: A series of transitionary arcs that are interesting in how they’re building up a lot of different elements, but that holistically feel lacking because very little happens in this season itself.

Log Horizon had two seasons way back in 2013-2015. Of course it is expected that one watching later seasons has watched previous ones. However, in the case of large gaps between seasons, it is often the case that some sort of recap is provided either separately from the anime or in the anime itself. The third season of Log Horizon does neither. It doesn’t ease in the viewer at all and pretty much expects ... them to be as familiar with the franchise as they would if they had just finished watching the previous seasons. As such, if it has been a long time since you’ve watched the previous seasons, I would recommend doing something to get refamiliarize yourself with the series, whether it be to rewatch the series, read the novels, or go find a detailed third party summary.

Between the previous seasons and this one for reasons that will not be elaborated upon, the franchise hit a very turbulent period. And by that I don’t just mean the anime, but the novels as well. Log Horizon was originally a web novel that was receiving a light novel release, however in 2015 production of that pretty much stopped as well with only one volume released after that in 2018. Previous seasons also adapted material from the web novels before it got released as a light novel. However, the issue this time is that there wasn’t all that much to adapt from the web novels either. As such, while previous seasons of Log Horizon were two cour, this season is only one cour as there’s simply not enough material left for a second one.

That isn’t inherently a problem, but in this specific instance I feel that this has resulted in a pretty weak anime because the current season is composed solely of arcs that feel like they’re building up to something, but without any arcs that really feel like substantial stories of their own. There are three very distinct arcs. Across the three there’s a some pretty good content in a lot of different areas, but there’s no real depth nor any really good any content in any specific area.

The first arc is centered around conflicts within the Round Table and some political intrigue arising from that. There’s a lot of good world building that it is clear will have a major impact going forward, not just in terms of Akiba but in terms of Yamato overall. However, this is pretty much entirely tangential to the main plot and thus not really focused on yet. In terms of what is focused on, the actual political gambits are incredibly simplistic which results in the story not being all that strong in and of itself. There’s also a focus on Rayneshia’s character growth which is written decent enough, but is pretty generic so it’s not particularly memorable.

The second arc is about the adventures of Krusty off in the Log Horizon equivalent of China. As an adventure story it’s pretty good and has some great action involving interesting twists on MMO mechanics. Still, it’s a story that’s very much in the early stages it feels like. It has a lot of world building regarding Geniuses and the Moon, but it doesn’t feel like this arc has any sort of event that results in major progression to serve as a solid conclusion to the arc. Rather, it’s not clear at all where things are going to go exactly. The writing is setting up a lot of intermingling plot threads, but it feels like actual progress in all of them is going incredibly slowly. As of yet, I don’t feel the narrative has done anything interesting enough with Geniuses to justify how much focus they’ve gotten throughout this and the previous season.

The third arc is centered around the younger members of Log Horizon, especially Minori, growing to become more capable adventurers. There’s a large focus on how raids work, but that was already a focus in season 2. Furthermore, while season 2 focused on high level raid tactics and such with Shioe, this focuses on the basics with Minori, which feels like a step back. This season gets more into the nitty gritty than season 2 did so if this was before the raid focused part in season 2 I feel this would have been perfectly fine, but focusing on the basics at this point just isn’t that interesting. There’s also some romantic development, but it’s more focused on making clear what currently is and where things will go in the future than actual progress, so this is yet another area where it’s building things up but not actually making any progress on them.

The art and animation are solid enough in terms of quality. The design work has a pretty fun style that combines fantasy and modern Japan in a pretty unique way that I’m pretty fond of. The OP and ED are both pretty solid in terms of the song and visuals. I love how overtly dramatic the OP is about the Fall of the Round Table arc. The soundtrack was decent enough but not particularly memorable.

Its boring. The story itself is good and this anime could have been great but i don't understand why it's makers decided to make it so boring.
Half of the series revolves around side characters and the protagonist himself is too busy to show his face. Log Horizon the guild itself hasn't accomplished anything. This season feels more like a spin off series where you can see your favourite characters in their daily lives. It's not like the story doesn't have a goal, it's just isn't moving towards it. All these guys do is to discuss, create new problems and then solve them. I ... still don't understand why a fellow gamer would address other gamer as 'my lord'. Maybe they do these kinds of things in Japan. Their are a couple of girls chasing behind the protagonist which seems mandatory for an isekai. Overall this series is a mix of a bunch of 'anime elements' put together which ended up looking like a mess. This show never made me wait for the next episode, I just watched whenever a new episode came just to check if anything interesting happens and I end up counting the minutes before this thing ends.
The animation quality is good and music is good enough. Nothing special about its opening, ED is a little better. I hope season 4 gets better.

There are quite a few factors by which I understand and adhere that this season is literally being a mess (bored, boring, etc)
First of all this anime, if it is true that it had a lot of text and to appeal to socio-political issues within the world of Akiba but the reality is that all this happened in other contexts during his actions in other seasons. Since we were always in adventure movements or with the development of the main characters in the middle or new characters to integrate, plus the occasional action scene. Now it seems that all the attractiveness that the program once ... had disappeared and finally obtaining a very slow rhythm of something unnecessary and that did not require developing during 3 chapters.
Much of this is also due to the amount of waiting time, it took 5 years to get a sequel that is spun from all of the above and practically forced you to review the content of the 50 chapters to understand the situations that the characters live in. the present (besides that surely you will not remember even 15% of these), I also understand that it is partly anticipated that they did not want to take it out this season because they knew that it would have a much more "relaxed" content.

In short, with immense pain, I step aside with this 3rd season of Log Horizon and it is possibly the last we see of this title due to the low quality of the program and the lack of new and / at the same time lost of old viewers, If it took 5 years to adapt a continuation that obtained a great reception from the public, imagine with the little explosion and recognition that "Entaku Houkai" has obtained today,

Log Horizon seasons 1 and 2 are among my favorite shows I have ever watched. Their blend of politics with isekai tropes was done with one of the most realistic depictions of what would occur if gamers really did get teleported to a fantasy game world. The problem with season 3 is that the isekai and game world aspect of the show has been almost completely abandoned in favor of the political intrigue. Because of this, fighting and strategy that you would expect from MMOs do not happen. The plot slowed to a halt over a tale of the death of the round table, and ... nothing really happens in the show compared to the previous seasons. I am of the opinion that this series has overstayed its welcome and now is but a shell of what it once was.
