Time to write another 'empty page to fill up' , bring out a leather jacket , sunglasses , sneakers skinny jeans and this time its about Locke the superman, to me the greatest superhero the anime universe never knew ever since i saw the 1984 full length movie, that was SPAGEAGE/ otherwordly visual trip overall and very special to me because that was THE first anime ever to use 3-d effects in a very unusual way.
This 3 part ova was produced and released about 5,5 years after the 1984 movie, in late 1989 ( about the same time i started to watch
...
anime, in april 1989)
wich in the anime timeline is just said 5 years after the 'Khan foundation incident'
Seeing this for the first time, i somehow felt in my 80's anime element and could not forgave myself i never saw this on tape!!!!
For the story i,m not gonna bragg about, locke is a person that gets mostly involved in galactic space fights between the United Earth federation and is enemies, wich later turn out that a more 'emotional factor' is behind it and this time its Lord leon , a rouge esper space pirate.
Animation looks good enough for its time and OMG look at the hair, proper '89 haircut for both Leon and Locke, good and intense esper telepathic interactions and psychedelic battles handdrawn, every sheet of paper done a proper job instead of todays 'stiff digital animation'.
I had ofc no problems with the soundtracks the 1st second the intro started, a mix between 80's rock music and sytheziser, yeah what do u expect from that time?
Choujin locke ( locke the superman) is quite an mysterious and interesting charachter that always go for a more 'diplomatic' aprpoach' before fighting and has lived for at least 300-400 years old but he supresses his growth with his esper powers so he doesn.t in his own words become a 'war loving adult'.
I mostly enjoyed this serie's that more charachters getting a more noticeable role except from that locke once again has solve another persons problem, but enjoyable enough once u got to the esper fights . its just too bad that Choujin locke's status never reached a favorable point in anime because there is plenty of potential and material that can be used if someone in the near future decide to pick it up. and oldskool and rough ruby this one!
