Finally an anime that is relatable to all us normal lads, as a complete genius good looking nerd with no friends in school, I would have five beautiful girls falling all over me all the time, why wouldn't they just leave me alone so i could study even though I score 100% on every test? Kapp

5 girls, 3 ones that aren't complete assholes, 2 with likeable personality traits and a protagonist with no personality at all. No real discussion for which someone would choose, I mean it's a harem anime so what do you expect? The storyline is not great, but the comedy redeems it ... somewhat.

TL:DR - Worth a watch if you like comedy anime and you feel you have nothing else to watch right now.

Story-mediocre 5: No matter who writes a long review, in the end it doesn't take a fool to notice that this anime's story plot was more or less a cliches as any anime that has a harem genre in it, so whether one is reading a long best selling novel kind of review or reading a short factoid review it was still the same shit but of different color .

Art-pathetic 1: We have Quintuplets that don't look like Quintuplets , in fact every character design were give o take ... were similar in all aspects of facial design so therefore them studio staff from Tezuka Productions should know the Quintuplets are not Quintuplets if they don't have matching features. they could compensate it like giving them quintuplets same hair color. Now if one was to make a fuss that getting to differentiate one quintuplet from the other then he or she is stupid, cu'z they can be differentiated by the way the wore their uniforms, hair style or kind of shoes they put on as long as they have same hair color cu'z that would make them Quintuplets , it was kinda ironic that despite of Japan's tech advancement, they're very much of a bunch of morons when it comes to something as simple as knowing what Quintuplets should look like and they way they used the English language. IMAO, this would have been better if some fanservce were added.

Now I don't know about you, but to me them quintuplets were just a bunch of spoiled daddy's girls kind of retards, were in the mind of the original creator Haruba, Negi wants them that way as such as to make the life of the MC as miserable as is.

and don't forget an imouto like Raiha Uesugi , who is the quintessential here.

Enjoyment Poor 3 : Cu'z basically what was suppose to be a plot for the guy to tutor them girls to get good grades ends up him being the girls' nanny. Let's not forget that this anime's title Gotoubun no Hanayome or in English The Quintessential Quintuplets, in reality it's actually The Troublesome Quintuplets, cu'z realistically all they do is give the main character, Futaro Uesugi , a top student and their tutor a hard time.

Overall- Pathetic 1: basically the anime alone is a ripped off, cu'z them quintuplets weren't really that essential at all , in fact I don't dig as to why this was titled as such , cu'z this should be titled as "The troublesome quintuplets. " cu'z they weren't that interested in studying at all and the character's job of tutoring them was more like a wasted of time than anything else. Season 2, anybody?????? Don't even think about it, but then again looks like there is gonna be one in the works.

This will be a short review ( I am not that fond of writing long reviews for the sake of over-critiquing anime, let's just have some fun talking about this).

Quintessential quintuplets can be described as a rather simplistic anime. A simplistic anime that I do believe that simple anime viewers may wholeheartedly enjoy. The art is fun and the story is entertaining as well. Delving onto the characters, each of the five sisters have unique personalities and characteristics - perhaps I can say that they are not bland or dull in a sense. This makes it exciting to actually watch the quintuplets on screen and ... how they would interact with the main lead character (Futaro).

The said anime is not that complex in terms of its story-telling. It ain't complicated but it's definitely enjoyable (for me atleast). What I like the most about the anime is that, despite of it being a harem, it is not an ecchi-driven anime. Values can be learned and the characters can certainly impact the viewers - long story short, it is WHOLESOME.

If you definitely want to unwind after watching countless complex story arcs, I do recommend that you watch this anime. A simple for show for a simple mind that can certainly bring forth amusement. (My overall rating for this anime is 8/10 considering various critiquing factors)

A perfect harmony of personalities that cause humorous and interesting conversation between the characters. A not clueless male protagonist that doesn't fail to acknowledge the girl’s affection toward him. A female cast that doesn't instantly throw themselves at the male protagonist. These traits set 5-toubun no Hanayome (The Quintessential Quintuplets) apart from the generic harem.

What is a generic harem? The two that come to mind are High School DxD and Nisekoi. High School DxD, without spoiling much, embodies the generic harem concept with high sex appeal in its female cast and a clueless male protagonist (Issei) who fails to realize the obvious hints the ... females are showing. This provides boring interactions as the female cast actively throws themselves toward Issei which ends up with the same result every time, Issei left face red and oblivious of the affection toward him. This repetitiveness only slows down the show and hinders the progression of the plot. Although some might find these pointless interactions funny or entertaining, they only serve to frustrate me as I scream into my computer screen "GROW A BRAIN DUMBASS". Nisekoi suffers from the same problems. However, I would say the character interactions are a bit more meaningful compared to DxD, but still hinder plot progression.

Enough with the criticism of other shows. As stated before, 5-toubun on Hanayome sets itself apart due to its brilliant writing of character interactions that always serve to be entertaining. I've never been so entertained just hearing two characters converse. Here is broad explanation for each of the girls without spoiling too much...

Itsuki and Nino both serve the tsundere role in the show. However, they show different degrees of the tsundere trait. Nino showed a sharp distrust in Fuutarou which allowed the beginning of the show to really feel as if Fuutarou needed to earn her trust to succeed. The writers knew this and made Fuutarou's journey more difficult with a few unexpected mishaps. This served primarily as comic relief and were a joy to watch as these scenes were beautifully crafted and they all made sense in the scheme of the story. Itsuki was much less harsh and served as the gateway between the quintuplets and Fuutarou. Her interactions with Fuutarou were very relatable, concise and slightly humorous. One of the primary highlights of her character was her process of finally beginning to trust and develop mild affection for Fuutarou. It was beautiful and unexpected.

Miku stands out with her personality, she is the stand alone dandere in the beginning of the show and her interactions with Fuutarou only serve to further enhance her trait. These interactions can only be described as pure, wholesome innocence with a hint of humor. *SPOILERS AHEAD* (until the end of the paragraph) Throughout the show we get to see Miku develop into a more eager and upfront individual, breaking her dundere trait by the end of the first season and vowing to the other four sisters that she will take Fuutarou for herself. Although this transformation is not groundbreaking, the well written dialogue allows for the contrast in character to be more meaningful.

Yotsuba and Ichika both play a similar role with their deredere like personalities. Although these two characters could have been boring and one dimensional, they weren't kept that way. Instead, tied with their personality trait of being friendly and energetic, came their moments of adversity and seriousness which really helped make them more meaningful characters as well has enhance their character development. Furthermore, their interactions bring a sense of light heartedness to the overall story as they are generally always energetic and positive outside of their moments of adversity.

However, so many positives come some flaws. Based off the score that I chose to give this; the flaws are present. However, the positives still far outweigh the flaws. The main gripe that I have with the show is the plot sequence. In the OP the main end goal was established as which girl, out the five quintuplets, was Fuutarou going to be married to. It was then shown that Fuutarou was going to be their tutor and that, we assumed, would allow their relationships to blossom. This was just not a strong enough motive for them to eventually get married. Most likely, the writers also realized this when writing the source material and added a much more convincing motive. But, this was added far too late, toward the last 1/3 of the first season, this made the beginning feel lacking as the plot just didn't have complete harmony like the character interactions. Even though this may seem like a major issue, it wasn't a big deal in the long run as it was eventually amended.

Overall, this show was phenomenal with its brilliant character interactions that not only bring humor, but also beautifully promote character development that is both exciting and shocking. I highly recommend it!

I didnt expect much of this show, because the harem genre doesn't really appeal to me, but this was really something else, and I'm glad that I took the time to watch this anime. And I'll explain why.

Story: solid 8
- The concept is pretty simple, and the series take the time to introduce to you all of the characters. The concept idea was pretty good, and this series executed it well. Each girl has their own personality, and other harem anime sometimes lack that. The bond between the MC and the girls strengthened through natural events, so the girls didn't fall in love at first ... sight like some of the harem anime do, which isn't good in my opinion.

Art: 9
- I really liked the art, the girls all looked a little bit different from eachother which makes it easier to tell them apart. The character designs were also very good, the MC looks like an average guy, which makes it easier for the most of us to emphatize with him.

Sound: 8
- I don't really pay attention to the sounds and music, but I feel like each of the background music that was playing in various events that happened in the anime did make an impact of the atmosphere, and makes this series enjoyable to watch.

Character: 10
- I like non-complicated characters. Each character has their own personality and things they like. All of the girls have different personalities so each person can spot their own type in there, making it their waifu (Miku is my favourite). The girls can be divided into various 'deres' (Like Tsundere or Dandere), and the difference between them makes it sometimes funny. The MC himself also has a good personality, but it isn't shown a lot which is reasonable, it made it easier for me to feel like I was there with them.

Enjoyment: 10
- As I've already said, I didnt expect too much of this series, but gave it a shot because it was really popular. Im glad that I made that decision. The series was really enjoyable from the start till the very end.

Overall: 9
- The anime is really nice, it's great if you want something to humor you up if you feel down. Watching this series was like a long awaited warm hug from a friend. :)

Oh Boy, another one of "these" shows.

Yes, you know by now every season, or at least every year will come the cheesy Harem, but who is really invested in such shows? Well, done right, a lot of people can get behind a good harem done right, with good or interesting characters, a novel hook that sets it apart, or a good sense of humour and some great comedy. Even just some cute characters can sway these things.

Sadly, the Quintessential Quintuplets have none of these qualities. I wanted to like this, and even put my misgivings aside to push through all episodes so far, ... but it wasn't worth it.

The animations look cheap and poorly drawn, its a similar style to Dagashi Kashi or recovery of an MMO Junkie, but lack the style or grace of either, looking like some basic mode of an editing suite instead. The premise could have been interesting, but the characters are too cookie-cutter, with no discernible traits or characters, just different hobbies that supposedly sets them apart.
The main protagonist is unlikable, bland, and too unsure of themselves and the problem is it has all been done before, and better. The story is a thinly veiled set up to move from set piece to set piece, but no substance in any. The humour is lacking, relying too heavily on "yandere face" for someone being mad and his hopelessness and immaturity around women. I just honestly don't see who this is for, apart from total hardcore completionists who refuse to go back and watch any of the countless better versions of this.
If that isn't you, I implore you, go watch Monster Musume instead, at least that has some humor in it. Or if you want a rom-com this season, Kaguya Sama is a much better bet.

*MANGA SPOILERS AHEAD*
So it's been almost 6 months since I picked up this series and I have to say it's amazing and didn't expect much less from it. The art is beautiful and I believe that it personally has a more mysterious vibe to it than Nisekoi. In the first season he has to make these five beautiful quintuplets pass their final year and graduate. He decided to work on the girls that needed the most help first. To Fuutarou-kun's surprise, they are all in great need of help. Yet, they don't want help. Especially Nino and Itsuki. Later on he realizes one of those ... girls is a past friend who guided him to where he is now. Which is Miku (who is also best girl). But before this all happens Fuutarou-kun encounters two problems, he is sacrificing his grades for these girls and there's another test coming up if they fail he's fired. It's about a beautiful story of a man trying to help all these girls graduate and save his family, all while we figure out which girl he ends up with.

I rate the story a 9/10 OST 8/10 Animation 10/10 sound 8/10 and enjoyment a 10/10

This anime caught some hype with the quintuplets war. I got curious and decided to give this anime a shot. I'll be completely honest, I was surprised at how good it was compared to how I thought it would be. Let's take a deeper look into this wholesome harem.

Story : 7
The starting was incredibly hilarious, who would have thought out of everyone Uesugi had to tutor, it had to be not only one, but five girls who are horrible in their studies. I felt like if they emphasized and strengthened more on the debt part and not use it like it is there to be ... used, it might of made Uesugi's story more interesting. With that aside, the story overall is still not too bad, every girl had their fair share of screen time which clearly is important for a Harem.

Art : 8
The art is pretty well thought out. Miku's headphones represent her quietness and her reserved personality. Nino's butterfly shaped ribbons represents her outgoing personality. Itsuki's star-shaped hairpins represents her hardworking personality. Ichika's single earring represents her bold personality and Yotsuba's ear shaped ribbons represent her easygoing personality. I personally like this factor a lot as them having these accessories allows one to tell what their personality roughly is.

Sound : 9
The OP was honestly a good one, it's a pretty hard one to forget for me. It really is catchy for me. The lyrics were well established as well as they summarized the story in one song. Same goes for the ED.

Character : 8
Well, totally my own personally opinion here, Miku is the best girl. Now the non-biased review. All the girls have a different personality from each other, despite being quintuplets. Miku, the quiet one. Nino, the outgoing one. Itsuki, the earnest one. Ichika, the bold one. Yotsuba, the easygoing one. They all show distinct personalities from each another which I really like. They all also progress at different rates, we can see how much more character development Ichika had compared to another girl like Yotsuba. On the surface they are quintuplets, but they act so differently from each another it doesn't feel like they are anymore.

Enjoyment : 8
I typically would enjoy anything rom-com anime as long it is not horribly animated. This show is wholesome and easy to enjoy. With 5 girls ready to entertain you right off the start in the OP, it only gets better from there once the anime itself starts. The different personalities blend in incredible well with each other. Plus the writing that makes this all possible. It is one heck of a show to watch. Definitely enjoyed it.

As long as you don't have a grudge with harem anime or romance, I will highly recommend it. If you haven't watched any harem anime before, you should actually try this one, it might make you like the harem genre more than you ever did.

Tldr: this show is amazing and well worth your time

This is my first review, so don't be too harsh with me :)
I saw many reviews with very low and seemingly unjust scores, so I decided to add my grain of salt.
I came here because I kept on being recommended this show on my social media, and I wasn't disappointed at all. This holy grail of waifus is the dream of every hikikomori, yet this isn't actually what made me like this series, but more of a consequence of everything the author put into this story.
This not-so-typical harem, which puts to shame the generic ... harems I've previously watched, starts off great and ends in similar fashion. To be honest, I didn't expect much from this anime, I just expected it to be a stereotypical harem with an annoying main character and empty girls around him: boy was I wrong.
This wholesome, heart-warming show has made it in my top 5, with its great art, sound and characters. Unlike other harems though, you shouldn't expect lots of lewd scenes and nip-slips, but more profound, deep, complex relationships between the characters (which sets it apart from other anime of the same genre). It should be noted that this is a romance anime, and so don't expect some battles and beasts. I like this genre so I don't mind but if this isn't your style of anime, maybe this isn't for you. This show is aimed for a somewhat broad audience (no weird scenes unlike other harems...) but not for everyone.


OK so how did I rate this?

Story: 8

The story is simple yet easy to attach to, and the author keeps adding in more and more elements to make it interesting. No fillers, no time wasting just great arcs that keep following one another. No unrealistic events or anything, just good content. The gift that keeps on giving. Friendly reminder: the story is character-driven not plot-driven.

Art: 9

I didn't see any flaws in the art, and the characters are well-drawn (which is important judging by the genre of The Quintessential Quintuplets). The female characters are good-looking, the MC isn't hateable just by his looks (quite an accomplishment for a harem). Some landscapes are nice to look at but not quite a 10/10 either I'd say.

Sound: 10

The opening and ending songs are great, so are the sound effects, the voice acting... Top-tier for sure.

Characters: 10

The characters get more and more complex, and it's easy to attach yourself to each and every one of them. They evolve over time which make them interesting, they're funny, they're kind, they're relatable and not over-the-top or acting "fake". One of the main assets of this show is the quality of the characters and how the author builds on this. I think it's fair to say everyone can like at least 2 quintuplets judging by how different their personalities are.

Enjoyment: 10

Once again, no debate here. The characters, mixed in with the sound, the art and the plot make this an extremely enjoyable show to watch. Binged it really quickly, which is usually not something I like to do or have time for.

I would definitely recommend watching this show. I came here with low hopes, and I was stunned by the quality of this show, I hope you'll be too.

Gotoubun is by far one of my favorite manga series, the main contributor being the premise. The fact that our protagonist has to choose between 5 girls is cliche, but making them siblings, it opens up so many new interactions. The anime adaptation, however, is not really to the bar with the manga, which had powerful moments and solid plot arcs. I personally feel that the charm of not knowing which quintuplet is which was refreshing in this pretty bland, with some hot releases coming out once in a while. The art is very good but sometimes strays into DBS territory. The quality sometimes drops ... to some drastic lows and hits some drastic highs. The voice actors are INSANELY good but regret the fact that they could not use similar sounding voice actors to really amp up the immersion. The characters are also very good, with stereotypes taking their respective sibling.

The Quintessential Quintuplets is pretty good.

We enter Fuutarou Uesugi, a teenager who inevitably gets thrown into the lives of his tutee’s, a group of five sisters. From then on, we get to see how he fares with trying to make these girls study. The first episodes are standard harem scenarios. We are introduced to various personalities, some of them we are already used to, others we begin to acknowledge for their incredibly endearing sweetness. The show takes its time for the cast of girls to develop trust for Uesugi, and I appreciate that. Though the progression is slow, we gradually see the girls develop deep ... trust - even feelings - for our dear Uesugi. The conflict and drama are believable enough and provide many layers, notably impressive for an anime like this. Uesugi, while still retaining a little of that standard harem protagonist, manages to soar beyond his beta male counterparts. His determination and passion for reasons that are sincere and genuine prove to put him a step above the rest from other harem protagonists. His backfired attempts at convincing the girls to study lead to some pretty funny instances of shame and sorrow, all of which still contribute to the show’s efforts at seriousness. Slowly but surely, we develop interest in Uesugi’s struggle and goals while he still becomes the subject of teasing by his “students”.

The girls themselves all have typical personalities… initially, that is. There is substantial growth in their character by the end of the season, and they break through the initial expectations set by earlier shows of the same nature. There is more to them than what is shown in the first few episodes. The chemistry between each of them and Uesugi is fun to watch, and we all know Uesugi’s going to pull through for our waifu’s. The whole sister dynamic is also something I have not seen, and the show manages to execute it well. While the anime is still held back by the bounds of overused tropes and a few weak-willed attempts at stirring drama, what is mostly shown in this adaptation manages to be fairly consistent and worthwhile. While it does not deliver in explosive portrayals of a bunch of girls madly in love, it is still a refreshing change of pace.

On a visual level, Quintessential Quintuplets does not fail in this department as well. Colorful backgrounds coupled with fluid character expressions. Character designs are a bit meh to no one’s surprise, but there are some features of the cast that stand out. Fanservice is sprinkled in bits, though it does not make up the main appeal of the anime. There are a few grand spectacles, particularly in the closing episodes. The anime does a good job in highlighting the attractiveness of each individual with regards to their personalities. Vivid and lush, it maintains the same quality of production throughout its duration. As for sound, it is more or less of the same quality, although I am slightly afraid of what the end of the opening song foreshadows.

Of course one can take the development of the harem in either positive or negative reactions. The anime is slow to develop romance, so if you want girls crushing on a guy left and right, you will not get that here. What is instead thrown is a satisfying harem that can hold its ground against others like it that are similarly well-received, and sets a benchmark that future adaptations should follow. Arguably enough, it might even be a step in the right direction. Too bad it was only twelve episodes. When all is said and done though, the Quintessential Quintuplets made my time spent worthwhile, and hopefully it ends up being the same for you, too. Miku though...

This season's wholesome harem anime. And with that it has already become quite popular.
We follow Futaro. His character isn't anything new but feels like it. His parents are gone leaving him with a large debt. On top of that he has to take care of his adorable little sister which probably takes more care of him.
In his luck a rich family moves in and they need a tutor for their five daughters...Which happen to be quintuplets...And the parents aren't around. Also all of the girls hate studying and get grades so bad that they shouldn't even be possible.

Each of the girls have their own ... trope. They aren't just walking tropes and that's all to them, but they aren't the deepest characters in the world.
Miku has already slated herself to be best girl among fans with her cute design, odd tastes and kuudere trope.
Ichika is the lewd sister and that's all you need to know without spoilers.
Then there is the two tsunderes (because we cant have too many of those) Nino and Itsuki. The difference between the two being that Nino is higher maintenance.
And last is Yotsuba, the ditzy one who is great at sports and stuff like that.

Everything else in this show doesn't stand out from anything else in the genre. Keep it cute and simple for music and animation.

From a critic's point of view this show isn't anything special. It's a teenage boy getting in awkward situations with cute girls. All he wants to do is help them learn but they make it extremely difficult.

It's tweaked from other shows in the genre but it is nothing you haven't seen before. Even say that though, the show is amazing and deserves a watch. If you like your wholesome harems, this will not disappoint.

I give it a 8/10

Whats so incredible about this show is that its a harem, and we as the audience know that, but it still drags you in. Usually we will see "oh, harem? Seen it once, seen it all."
HOWEVER, the greatest distinction in this harem is one absolutely critical piece that I realized all other harems lacked: the male protagonist is a dynamic character! The MC is NOT a clueless fool, who is generally reserved, finds himself in perverse situations, and will out of no where yell out this monologue to sound "cool." No no, Uesugi Fuutaro has substance to him. His character, history, and personality play almost ... as much of an important role as the girls in the show. When presented in somewhat ecchi situations, he berates the girls in a confident tone-- none of that shy "oh no, you mustn't do that."
Whats most sad about this is that there isn't enough time on one season to completely flesh out all the characters, so only the MC and 2.5 of the quintuplets get fleshed out enough to be contenders for the MC.
I recommend watching for the romance, less for the harem tropes.

5-toubun no Hanayome was a great anime, full of enjoyment. From the beginning the anime already give us the bride, but we dont know who she is. So this anime also give us a mystery who is the bride. Overall is good. 5-toubun no Hanayome also confirmed to get seacon season, so its good news for us. And the harem is quite unique too.
The manga still ongoing, so its really great we already get second season before the manga complete.

I'm really enjoying this anime and I really hope fuutaro ends up with Miku or at least fuutaro choose nino.

This is truly a wholesome harem anime.

I enjoy the characters and feel that they are well designed. The sisters are all different and have their own personalities but I do still get the feel that they are family.

But the main appeal of this show to me is its inclusion of a mystery aspect. Unlike many other harem anime, there isn't a clear lead among the heroines. Furthermore, we know right from the beginning that one of the heroines does end up with the male lead. But, we don't know which one. The best part of the series is learning about the different characters, ... picking a favorite, and then trying to piece together the clues to see who ends up being the "winner."

It's quite enjoyable and I look forward to (hopefully) some more seasons to try to piece the puzzle together.

So... what is the point of this series again...?
While it is cute, the entire gimmick feels off.


The quintuplets don't feel like real characters, they turn very quickly from hating the main character to falling in love with him, over literally basic interaction. Are their standards that low? Or did they never have any basic interaction with the opposite sex? How come they all fall in love with the same person in the exact same time? Nothing here makes sense and makes the characters feel like writing tools to make the fantasy of the writer come to fruition as that fantasy would never work in real ... life due to how stupid and badly written it is. Why the hell was it needed to create a harem with identical sisters, or family members to begin with? What would the 4 do once there's a winner? Try to kill her? Or just accept that they lost their "love of their life"? Its extremely stupid, written bad and unbelievable.

There is so many unneeded drama because they can't literally talk over the situation and their feelings. They would rather have awkward situations, run away one from another or fight and argue over the silliest stuff instead of taking a deep breath and thinking before throwing stuff out of their mouths.

It has too many cliches - the childhood friend part, the girls are pretty much perfect in terms of looks, from their face to their body to everything they represent outside. Don't forget that they come from a rich home, and obviously the father that hired their teacher is never in it so they can have some accidents and dumb stuff happening to support the typical harem cliches.

What father in their right mind would hire a high school student at the age of his daughters to tutor them as a private teacher? The fact he knew his daughters are problematic and refuse to study should make things obvious for him about how strict he was supposed to be, but no, let a kid take over everything and don't get involved even in the slightest and expect for some results. HE NEVER EVEN PHYSICALLY CHECKED TO SEE WHAT IS GOING ON OR NEVER EVEN MET THE TEACHER IN PERSON.

Ignoring the dumb story - the art is sometimes pretty good and sometimes feels really off. The animation for most of the adaptation is really bad, to the point where fluid movement barely exists in the adaptation other than the last few episodes. The running animation felt really choppy and badly drawn most of the time, except for the anime openings where they wasted several frames on boobs bouncing because that's apparently the most important part... Either way, the sound design is fine, nothing special but never felt bad. The characters are non-existent. Futaro is fine~ish, while some of his reactions are dumb and are only written in a certain way to lead to awkwardly bad situations, he is the typical main character that people like to shove to harem animes, so its fine. The quintuplets aren't real characters, their dad isn't a real character, Futaro's dad looks like a slightly older brother and doesn't really feel like an actual dad, and his sister is somewhat alright considering she is supposed to be a little girl.

If you like to watch 5 identical beautiful girls throw themselves over some random boy for the fact he is a little "nice" to them I guess this show is for you. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and run away from this piece of garbage.

On my journey to become an anime snob, I decided I needed to embrace the harem trash I am, and thus have found myself watching this show.

That's a lie, my roommate and I decided we wanted to watch a dumb rom com together to ignore our responsibilities for a bit every week, and this show fit the bill. I have to say, the most fun I had with this show is yelling back and forth with her about who best girl is, it's Miku, and seeing if it will hit all of the harem tropes before NOTHING HAPPENS IN THE END AGAIN. For this, I ... say find a friend, significant other, or family member who, like you, wants to just turn their brain off and watch a dumb fun show about a man being oggled by five lovely ladies for... reasons.

To be fair, our main man Fuutarou does not have the personality of sandpaper meant to be a self-insert protagonist, and has a likable personality despite his crass tendencies. He has priorities, nuances, and above all else... a spine. The presence of a personality means how he interacts with each of the heroines is different depending on the situation. Like an onion, which is what his head looks like, he has layers to what and why he does what he does, even if it is only a couple layers deep. While this doesn't change how frustrating it can be to watch him do or say certain things, you at least understand where he is coming from given his position and knowledge, rather than seeing a response occur purely for the sake of "plot." Overall this is what drives the show and makes it entertaining to watch since the heroines are all essentially one-note personalities.

You've got the standard one everyone knows is going to be the one chosen in the end, you've got the tsundere who is borderline abusive, you've got the playful and flirty one who makes feeling obvious, you've got the hyperactive one who has more energy than a toddler on red bull , and you've got the quiet one that is best girl because she has the most development and distinct personality of them all. I was honestly hoping for more development in all of them, would make this show so much more interesting, but sadly you know the 12 episode limit meant only a couple of them would get any real character/background development. But the foundations are there and if the second season does more, I might actually start to care about these characters. If that happens, I may need to start watching this show sober and without the attention span of a goldfish.

Story, art, and sound were not that memorable. The premise and jokes are entertaining, but gets old after a while. However the characters and how the interact are fun to watch and keep your attention long enough to want to see how they turn out.

Overall, I give this a 7. It's not amazing, but it is very entertaining. Bonus points awarded for being a fun show to watch with a friend, and great drinking game for everytime they make a quintuplet gag or joke.

I never thought I'd end up liking this show, as I hate harem as a genre, but this is the one exception to the rule, as it would be, and it works to create a great cast of characters in a world with a seemingly generic premise at the start.

The characters are mostly believably made, with their relationships being carefully taken care of. Each of the five main heroines look similiar, but they all sport vastly different personalities and ambitions.

The MC can be a little daft at times, but believe me, this is nothing compared to other harem anime. In fact, the entirety of the ... first season was just him trying to cope with the six of them now being essentially friends.

There are some generic tropes here and there (the festival arc in particular, albeit executed way differently than usual), but it's overshadowed by everything else.

Truly, probably one of the only worthy harem anime around

Miku and Nino bae

I'm baffled by the high scores and praise this show is getting. It's just so BLAND and utterly devoid of flavor.

Fuutarou is a slice of stale bread, but the girls all learn to like him because, apparently he's the first guy they've ever met.
I mean, it's pretty typical for male MC's (especially harem ones) to be utterly nothing, but Fuutarou has absolutely zero charm. Other harem MC's are aloof at times or say something funny. They might be bland, but they'll have some quirk about them that makes them attractive. But Fuutarou has none. He's annoying and likes to show off his high grades. ... He's just standoffish and very curt.

But then again, it makes sense, when you consider 4 out of 5 of the Quintuplets are essentially hating on him or messing with him 90% of the show's runtime. It isn't until the show hits around 8-9 episodes in that it goes, "oh wait, this was a romance with a marriage or something, right? Shieettt", and then all of the girls are rewired into loving this man.

This is the biggest problem with the show— it barely feels like a romance at all. Every single "moment" in the show feels forced and contrived. It's made worse by Fuutarou showing zero emotion back. Does he even like any of them? There is no give and take at all. There is absolutely ZERO (TN: Zero means "none") chemistry between Fuutarou and any of the girls. It's embarrassing that even the most trash of harems contain more chemistry than this show.

It's not actually romantic, and it's not funny either— there isn't even fanservice, so there's nothing to make up for the weak points.

I don't even need to talk about the plot, because plot isn't why anyone sits down to watch a romance or harem— you watch it for character interactions, and there are NONE to be found here. Avoid.

Never been a huge fan of these types of stories. Harem's generally speaking, but more particularly stories with content that doesnt seem to "matter".

What I mean by that is, stories with this kind of structure have you going through the motions until the pre-determined end. That being the MC ending up with one of the 5 sisters. In this story, they make that super obvious. So the "point" of the story is to see which one he gets together with. The enjoyment you then derive form watching/reading is picking a girl and then hoping she wins. However, ... that is where I think this falls flat, not just for this story, but a lot of them.

Giving each girl screen time is necessary to keep up the illusion of a contest, but it comes at a huge detriment to the overall narrative. If each girl is having these life altering revelations over this one guy, then it can be hard to root for a single one. It also devalues the next life alerting event to a certain extent. It creates this endless merry-go-round of who "deserves" to be with MC which gets messier with each pass. This show covered about 32 chapters of the current 98 out right now, and that sounds absolutely exhausting to me. I imagine it just constantly goes back and forth between girls until you dont know who you want anymore. Each nice moment is overshadowed by the next until nothing holds weight anymore. Thats what I mean by content that doesnt seem to matter. You are completly at the creators whim, who likely already picked who it would be before even starting the story.

I dont know, maybe these kinds of stories just arnt for me. I didnt hate it, but it just seemed so pointless to me.
