Both anime are coming of age tales in which an older mysterious women is the impetus for a journey of discovery as well as the limits of maturity. Penguin Highway is more whimsical and while not necessarily a family film is packaged like one.

Charming suburban adventures of clever kids investigating mysterious phenomena in their communities. Initially whimsical, ultimately dramatic.

Penguin Highway and Tenki no Ko are beautifully animated movies with breathtaking art and animation and they both feature unique male protagonists who has to deal with the unique weather scenarios in their cities. The stories in both movies are developed by authors who combine realism with fantasy elements. -Both male protagonists in these stories are heavily inspired by weird, eccentric female characters who has unique powers. -The main cast is also very similar: a group of kids consisting of 2 young boys and a girl, 1 eccentric older woman, a researcher, a father figure, and so on. -Weather phenomenon, adventure, and investigations. -An underlying  read more

Both movies are set in the real world with a hint of the supernatural, and they both contain some elements of mystery and romance. These two films are also made by the same company, Studio Colorido, so if you enjoyed this film, you'll definitely love Penguin Highway.

Supernatural and Mystery centred beautiful anime movies, which put forward lot of philosophical question about the existence of human being or any other living form.

Both are a fantasy, ghibli-like movie. When you read between the lines, both movies are about a protagonist coming to terms with and accepting death, each abundant with their own sets of metaphors and imagery.

Both contain elements that warp your perception of their realities. They both focus on mysterious and unexplained phenomenon that go beyond physical understanding, and will both confuse and captivate you. If you are a fan of trippy visuals, environmental storytelling, and surprisingly deep commentary on the human experience, these will both satisfy you. They both hide rather deep secrets beneath a bubbly and fun outer shell.

Both Penguin Highway and Fireworks exemplify what I love about animation: they take a ludicrous premise and manage to create something utterly charming. Two beautifully animated coming-of-age stories that grapple with sci-fi themes, both films explore emotional struggles commonly experienced by their protagonists' age brackets.

Reality softens a bit around the edges, & the logic of dreaming mingles with the waking world. There is little anyone can do to avoid being swept along as they try to make sense of what's occurring around them, either through memory, as in Millennium Actress, or through reason & scientific observation, as in Penguin Highway.
