Following the first season's gag action theme, the second season titled To Be Heroine features an original story and a new set of characters.

You is about to leave home when she suddenly enters an incredible world. Appearing in front of her is an eight-year-old naked boy, and before she could even grasp the situation, she's attacked by assassins from a mafia group who were chasing the young boy. What was even more unrealistic for You was that the leader of this mafia was another assassin's attack.

Who are those naked kids, why did her shoe turn into a warrior and above all, what kind of world did eight-year-old boy come from? Just like the first one, he's also almost naked! While trying to escape from the attackers, You loses one of her shoes and by a strange kind of magic, her shoe turned into a warrior who was able to save her by blocking the You enter?

This is far more complicated than it appears. Give it a shot if you want something slightly out of left field, specifically something with a bit of absurdity and a bit of heart. Saying anything more will ruin some of the impact, so perhaps just watch the series if you're on the fence. The only catch is that you have to get over the half way mark to even start to appreciate what's going on. Essentially this is an anime that uses the surreal comedy, isekai and school life genres to tell a story about dealing with trauma and growing up. I was engaged and ... enjoyed it, but its not without issues. Primarily I feel the plot got overcomplicated and silly, it wasn't surreal or heartfelt but just a bit daft.

I still believe this is worth a watch as it's different and feels creative. It's different, telling a specific story its own way and hoping you come along for the ride. For what its worth I joined it and while certain elements of the plot frankly don't make sense there is heart here, in fact I'd say if you want an anime with heart this should be on your list, especially if you can overlook an overarching narrative that has flaws.

Mixed Feelings

This is quite interesting piece. The plot is quite entertaining and it can give you that emotional kick if you will turn a blind eye on some of the more silly ideas.

The review has some minor spoilers, if it offends you please stop further reading. It is also my first review so I am hoping it will be useful to someone, who does not know whether to watch the series.

The main premise of fighting with your clothes is kind of interesting, could be done better as not many characters have any accent of the cloth they come from, or it is not very visible. ... But really it does not inflect plot that much, is there as more of a device to convey the story, but quickly after being introduced it sort of dissapears from it. Tiny bit of fanservis is also only present at the beginning.

Despite that, the big corruption story is quite generic for an anime, but execution is fair, I especially liked the part telling adults' story. The ending is one of the biggest asspulls I have ever seen, so if you are allergic to that, rather avoid this anime.

Majority of characters unfortunately did not feel like real, 3D people and fit only their archetype, with main cast above all. Which was a bit dissapointing.

Art and animation was really good. Upbeat visuals were cleverly hiding the dark tone of the story and gruesome accents reminded you of it.

Ost was okay, did not stand out in any way. The ending tho had a nice ring to it. I actually liked it more than the opening, which does not happen as often.

Overall the series was good, but due to many flaws I could not give it a higher score, though due to the enjoyment it gave me I felt bad that my brain could not overlook at least some of the flaws.

I am not truly sure which part of this series annoyed me the most. Perhaps the half-Japanese half-Chinese voice acting which served no purpose in the series whatsoever. The Chinese parts were not acted in any sense of the word, instead just spoken in the most monotonous and personality-lacking way imaginable.

Our main character was not much better. Heroine-chan is simply uninteresting and boring. Basically every 5th word in her dialog is "sorry", which would be somewhat meme if she was Canadian. Every time she forms a sentence, she takes the first part of the sentence back and starts over from the beginning. I fail to ... see how this is supposed to serve the series or her character. It feels annoying and nothing more.

The story is just stupid. Our heroine needs to be a heroine because that's the point of this series. To achieve this, she randomly teleports to a place where she speaks Japanese instead. Th story centers around her saving perverted toddlers from the arms of sword-wielding villains. Everything happening in the Japanese-tongue side of the world seems to symbolize her Chinese lifestyle because this is apparently a very deep and complex story. The slice of life drama in the Chinese section is offensively bad. The whole writing relies on character archetypes used as plot elements and literally evil people getting owned by heroes who save "victims" from being wronged. I felt physically ill after witnessing this. Not because it was so unfair for the characters, but because it was so hideously written. Why this series is considered to be a comedy if beyond my understanding.

The art an animation surely do not give glory to anything in the series. During fight scenes, our fighters "disappear" because they are supposedly so fast and amazingly powerful. In reality, they disappear so their movements didn't need to be animated. Half the time they still are visible, and what we get are fast paces but generic fights which mainly seem like bad excuses for content. There is a perfect word for it: lackluster, and that pretty much can be used to describe everything else in the series as well.

To Be Hero had beyond catchy songs, and awesome comedy. However, the series got old super fast tho and a quality drop occurred. Heroine on the other hand is bad from the very beginning and never got any better. I can't recommend this series to anyone. It's boring and fails to entertain.

*I am not sure if the other spoken language is even Chinese. I simply do not know and don't care much enough to find out. This series was originally released in Chinese, so I assume it is.*
