Wang Gu Shenhua Zhi Tian Xuanzhe

The year is 2115. Wei Qin, the commander of the border troops, went to the Fortress to participate in the selection of the elected official and to secretly investigate those responsible for the Border incident. At the same time, Yuan Yi, launches a major revolt. As the plot progresses, all parties are involved in this quest. Will Wei Qin succeed?

This Chinese animation did have one hell of a start. Its setting and storyline is something you will rarely see today and the OPening builds up the hype even more. The world, as you used to know it, is no more, people now have to work ... together to survive, world government is now a thing, but it hardly changes anything, discrimination still takes place and there are quite many, who want to overthrow the government. And, on top of that, the humanity is on the brink of destruction; it has nearly been destroyed and it might be destroyed once again. After the first attack of an organization called The Heavenly Palace, millions died, our planet changed so much that it would be impossible for you to imagine all the changes and many many more. However, the most important thing to mention here is the fact that the first attack of The Heavenly Palace also gives the humanity the power to fight back. This power causes mutations, which give its host the power unimaginable.

But to temperate this power, the time is needed. Hence, those who have the power will have to leave behind an offspring, so that humanity is able to master the power to destroy the initial aggressor. And that is what this Chinese animation is about. While this Chinese animation has some 10/10 story material, it fails in many ways, making this story average, at best. I am not going to mention the animation, which is somewhat bad and might already be the reason for many to never watch this series, I am going to focus more on the characters and the storyline.

Both the storyline and the characters have the same problems. It feels as if the creator does not know what they want, the story always shifts its emphasis from one thing to another and does not give any explanations whatsoever. I would not, however, say that the story is the main problem; it has its flaws, but they are not that fatal. The main problem of this Chinese animation is the characters, or more like the only female protagonist of this series, she is so plain average that it is impossible to watch this series. She feels like an empty puppet with no emotions and no feelings. She receives close to none development and is just unbearable boring.

Overall, the only reason my overall score is 5/10 is that METAMAN has quite an interesting storyline, but there are still so many flaws this series has that it is difficult to give it anything more than 5/10.

The Metaman is a show I stumbled upon accidentally one day when I was looking for my next anime to watch. After paying for a month's subscription to the Bilibili, I walked away from The Metaman feeling hopeful for its future. While short, it has lots of flashy, high-stakes sequences and an interesting plot that begins with humanity already clinging and on the verge of annihilation. A scenario like this paired with an absolutely powerful opening song hooked me so fast, I could not stop watching this show until it was over.

I am not the most experienced anime watcher. Apart from Naruto and a ... few mainstream animes, my understanding of the world of anime is quite limited, so that gives me a different perspective when it comes to enjoying anime compared to those who've seen all manner of anime series. I'm not like those movie critics who say mostly everything that comes out is garbage, and I'm sure the same kind of people exist in the anime reviewing world, so I'll keep it brief.

The animation is lacking at times, unfortunately. Not too critically to the point where it looks like a fan animation, but on occasion you will notice some scenes that could've looked more polished. This is my only issue with this show, and it isn't a big one. For a 12 episode show from the Chinese (whom I didn't even know had studios creating anime until I saw this show), this is most acceptable. The opening video really does excite me and the song that goes with it is pure epicness. If a battle were fought with that song, I'd give it 30 out of 10 stars! The story is good and interesting, with intriguing technology and character interactions, and the presence of a Hokage like character, "the chosen one" as the opening song so admirably puts it, known as The Metaman making a stand on the battlefield for the sake of the world from the very beginning of the show is enough for me to say this series is fantastic. It may not be for some direhard weaboos who've seen it all, but if you're just a peaceful like me who wants to see something different with good action and moments of extreme importance with the whole world at stake, you can't go wrong with this show.
