Youjo Senki

I loved this anime ! It's not a masterpiece and isn't particularly well written, but it's simply very statisfying to watch.

What needs to be remembered is that Youjo Senki is a show that was made for action, politics and military strategics, as well as some philosophical thoughts on war and equality.

The general idea of a man being reborn as a little girl seems strange at first, but the anime is not centered around that, it's more focused on the fact that he was punished and now lives in a world with lots of disadvantages he did not have in his precedent life.
Also, ... the animation is fairly good, as well as the musics, and there is always action.
Oh and there is no XXX moment despite being an isekai, which is a big win in my opinion (no time wasted, fully on to the development of the plot)

It's not an amazing show but I really loved watching it, so I recommend giving it a try (the manga is very cool too).

Let's get started with this masterpiece now shall we.
The opening premise of this anime is slightly of putting, mainly because of the 'man in a girls body' thing which puts people off. However, because of the MC's personality, you will find that her gender....really doesn't matter. She is, and was, a sociopath, with gender playing little to no role in her initial character mold.
Story: 7/10
The series follows the life of the super-competent, sociopathic salaryman-in-a-girl's-body in an AU of Europe on the brink of a world war, as she does her best to improve her lot from am orphaned girl to a position of comfort ... through military progress, with our protagonist ending up in the AU equivalent of Germany after pissing of a God-like entity by refusing to believe in the existence of God at the moment of his/her original death in Modern Tokyo, with a little magic thrown in to shake things up. The reason I give it a 7 rather than a 9 or an 8 is because the mechanics of magic in the world aren't really explained properly, which really stuck in my craw. However, the change in war strategy that magic caused is very well explored in this story, with magic being made equivalent to highly mobile and versatile heavy artillery. It is an engaging plot, with a well explored and developed MC.
Art: 8/10
The art is detailed, and the animation crisp and smooth. The muted colors fit the WW theme extremely well.
Sound: 7/10
The opening and ending themes are on the heavy metal side, which doesn't really fit with the semi-somber mood of this series- while it has a lot of action, it is not the sort of happy action you find in an action series. It is a grey-zone story,and the heavy metal opening doesn't fit.
Other than that, the general BGMs are fitiing with the military theme, with nothing particuarly notable about it.
Character: 9/10
The Character development is as phenomenal as it is narrow. There is little to no development of any character other than Tanya. However, it is so well done, that it really isn't required for the other characters to be developed.
Enjoyment: 9/10
The irony of Tanya's situation, as well as view of war strategies that the series provides makes it a very enjoyable watch. While there is no overt humor, The fact that she keeps getting handed more responsibility when she is working to get the opposite keeps you entertained, along with a riveting story line keeps you glued throughout the series

The series is a very enjoyable, and very underrated for its overall quality. The best parts are the explanations of war strategies and the aerial action scenes.

Everything in this anime felt right. It is set in alternate reality, in world very similar to ours, at war that felt like very nice mix of WWI and WWII. The story has right pace. Nothing felt obscure. The magick and loli aspect perfectly complements each other, and bundled(/executed) like this, it enables this anime to be military without feeling like shit. So I can't really deduct any points for being "magic loli". The "planning" scenes were great, and recognising some resemblance to real world fights were satisfactory. The interesting camera views in them were great accessory to Main Character thoughts, and great way how ... to freshen this kind of scenes. The story, settings, visuals etc, vere great. ...

But, there are 2 things that bothers me. First, although, all fighting scenes were entertaining and interesting, I still had that unpleasant taste of "MC always wins" in back of my throat. And it didnt go away. Second, it is interesting and entertaining to watch, but it didn't have any distinct emotional, impact and I just could not immerse in it. Which are my criteria for 9 and 10 star animes (on top of having great story and other things that this anime has). This 2 reasons are why I give it 8 stars, but I can't imagine how this anime could be done better. For what it is, it is Perfect. But not compared to wholesomeness of other anime...

Because this Isekai isn't the typical " Hero, you must slay the demon lord to save the world!" it's a breath of fresh air. I also enjoy that the main character is more of a villain type.

The animation is great and doesn't use a ton of recycled animation scenes that have been running rampant lately.

There are ZERO filler episodes and the story gets straight to the point. I would love for the story to dive into Tanya's relationships but due to her personality it makes sense that there is none of that.

I thoroughly enjoyed this and can't wait for more!

This is one of the newest anime this year which reaffirms the fact that you can never run out of ideas or cliches for anything. Youjo Senki if anything, is original and pleasing to watch.

Story:8/10

How would you feel if God damns you to the worst possible time in our history and does it all in order just because you don't agree with him? Youjo Senki answers that question. The protagonist(Tanya) is someone who dares to challenge God for personal reasons and is forced to wage a battle with him. While the story introduces quite an ample amount of twists and turns, what appeals the story ... to me the most is the fact is that it examines the characters perspective and their views on the world. And yes, the military part of Youjo Senki is nearly the best part of it, where you get to see how terrible the war is and their consequences.

Art:7/10

The Art is something which is up to par and shines in the magical part of the battles. And by the way, I love how they designed Tanya. She is nearly the best loli that I have encountered. Some of the scenery depicted in the anime is close to real life, and that's what I like about them.

Sound:8/10

And then comes the sound. The best soundtrack is the op and it is a literal ear worm. The background music is not particularly great, but not particularly bad.

Character:9/10
I believe I said it already, but Tanya is arguably the best character in this anime. No question about it. The badass decisions that she makes during battle is something to be praised. You also get a look at the politics behind the military and how it is likely to play out. You look at some characters and see the war from their viewpoint too. And there are some points where you can see a little black humor and horror behind some characters, Tanya included.

Overall I would rate it 9/10, because Youjo Senki has some minor flaws, but otherwise is nearly perfect. Something that I would recommend that you watch if you like Military anime(like Attack on Titan) and strategic thinking(Death Note/Code Geass).

Waiting for Season 2!

"She is a monster in the form of a little girl" is both an understatement and an overstatement.

This series in a nutshell:
WWII Jetpack troopers use magic guns to take over knockoff-Europe because God feels like annoying the Isekai protagonist.

I'd like to take a minute to remind readers that I am an artist first and foremost. I love a well written story and a dazzling display of graphics. I'm also no stranger to the world of musical score and SFX. I also have a (respectful) infatuation of firearms technology and WWII-era science. So don't be overly concerned about my current state of unhealthily frothing ... at the mouth. That's actually an indication that I'm successfully repressing my nerd brain for this review. (Like I said, don't be concerned)

Youjo Senki is a brilliantly written story for something that is by textbook definition an Isekai. Because it starts our main character's new life truly from the beginning of infanthood and gives them what is to my knowledge the best origin story in reincarnated-protagonist history.

First, Tanya von Degurechaff is an anti-hero. A surprising rarity for the Western comic-influenced medium that is anime. If there's anything I've learned about anti-heroes from being a writer, it's that anti-heroes are incredibly difficult to do properly. The archetype demands a fine balance of a morally agreeable character and a fiendish character. My one attempt at a an anti-hero resulted in the creation of an unlovable brat too far set in their own ways. (That character ended up in the garbage bin)

Second, Tanya is a perpetually angry character. Which is an even HARDER character to write. Any extremely emotional individual requires an equally extreme motivation for said complex. If you only give it a lame effort you'll end up with an appropriately weak basis for that character's personality. But if you can pull it off, you have the potential to create a seriously kickass individual.

In her previous life, Tanya was a cold, rational, MALE office worker. He gets shoved in front of a subway by a man he fired earlier that day and dies. The moment before impact, he has a strange chat with God. The man openly challenges the validity of an almighty being directly to its face. Infuriated by his lack of faith, the deity sees fit to send the man's soul to a world plagued by war and dares him to stay alive.

Tanya is a girl born into the world of the Empire, the equivalent of Germany in a fictitious Europe as part of a WWII reenactment, only this time with a touch of magic and without the unethical horror of Nazism (but still authoritarian). We also got the Republic (France), Entente (Norway/Sweden), Grand Duchy (Romania, I think), the Federation (USSR) and the Unified States overseas (...yes).

Despite her gifts of incredible intellect and magical prowess, her entire existence is a joke fabricated by the self-proclaimed God she refuses to acknowledge, only referring to them as "Being X". From her reincarnation into the body of a diminutive girl, to the continued vexations from the Being pulling the strings. The Entity is pitting Tanya and her country against the entire world. The God gives her no option but to fight in this war and also curses her by necessitating a prayer every time she wishes to fight.

Holy crap that's one heck of a backstory. It completely justifies Tanya's personality. Waging a war of thought against her absolute personal antagonist. Pitting her rationality against belief. And being constantly reminded at every possible pause of the existence of her most hated, fundamentally indelible foe. In my experience, the more poetic the origins of a passionate character, the stronger their potential. It doesn't get much more poetic than that.

STORY: 6
The world-building of Youjo Senki is amazing, even if it is 90% borrowed from history. However, if you were to break down the actual plot into its base form it's not all that special.

I've had this gripe about several series in the past, but any story where the heroes always win is boring and lazy writing. You have to have the little defeats along the way. On paper, the 203rd never lose. But you have to remember that they get the crap kicked out of them every other encounter. Also, Tanya has already lost an unwinnable fight against the world (or so you'd think... we'll see...). All of the above demonstrate a story where the characters can take a loss and learn from it, and not just continuously pull W's out of a magic hat.

ART: 8
The series boasts incredible animation that blends the dark with the dazzling in a uniform set of color tones.

SOUND: 8
The music sets all of the proper moods in extraordinary fashion. Sound quality is very well handled. My one issue would likely be the repetitiveness of the gunfire sound effects, but they were at least consistent.

CHARACTER: 7
Tanya is the only character with any real girth to their character. Everyone else is forgettable fodder by comparison. That said, Tanya is a very unique character and the dynamic she has with her battalion is sufficiently different from anything else to warrant a passing grade.

ENJOYMENT: 9
That might be the heart particles of my nerd brain seeping through my keyboard, but I'll allow it since an enjoyment rating is already quite an objective topic. Because I thoroughly enjoyed watching this anime.

OVERALL: 8
It is abundantly self-evident that this action anime stands above the rest by being mired with politics and proper reasons for its continuous conflict. That's the main issue I'd have with major Shounen titles; they lack proper forward motivation. Youjo Senki glazes over that conundrum by making their world quite literally built different. It might make viewers say "Ew politics," but the series manages to dumb it down enough that it's negligible.

The main flaw with this series would have to be its lack of quantifiable plot progression, but it's easily inferred why. There will be no end in sight for quite some time. This is a World War they're fighting.

Until the Being wills it so, Deus lo vult!

The plot essentially illustrates a few things:
- corporations are "evil", notably with how they lack compassion for humanity, seemingly wanting robots/computers for workers
- military rewards merit, but has a lot of political bureaucracy in the higher ranks, in which they simply use you and toss you in a similar "evil" way as corporations
- evil can easily recognize other evil, possibly breeding a darker evil
- how an "evil" corporate mindset deals with various situations, including dealing with religion/superstitions, teamwork, human resources (team building), life goals (retirement vs honor vs love and happiness)
- evil is tolerated, even desired, if it shows strong promise of fulfilling personal goals

Story: ... gained depth and history by loosely connecting the show to familiar time periods. Avoided lame ass-pulling and flashbacks to justify actions. Didn't break the rules of its world over and over.

Characters: letting personalities clash with very different personalities, which produce interesting unique reactions is a basic requirement. This one took different philosophical lifestyle mindsets and made them clash in life or death situations, sometimes showing that the victor is the one with the right attitude, as opposed to the one with the most capability/power.

Sound: the voice acting, especially Tanya's, is quite expressive and fit the characters and situations adequately. The music modestly enhanced the impact of the show's drama and suspense factor. Typical cheesy unrealistic studio sound effects.

Art: well blended/coordinated, with cinematic effects liberally applied. Characters were able to deliver messages through body language, facial expressions, allowing dialogue to be kept fairly flavorful. No declaring emotions and no calling your moves here. From having a beat-up disheveled look to show distress level, to detailing a character to show how arrogant and pompous a person is before they even speak, the artwork spoke its thousand words. Frequent scene change, perspective changing, and panning kept things active looking. No real lazy rush jobs noticed.

Overall enjoyment: I gained some wisdom watching this show. I enthusiastically recommended it to a lot of friends. Too bad they didn't react as positively as I did; perhaps I overhyped or spoiled it. They instead told me to watch shows that were to be enjoyed with your brain turned off, or shows that encouraged escaping from reality, rather than learning more about its harshness...

I never got so excited while watching anime on a marathon. Saga of Tanya the evil, really creeps me out. The concept seems so interesting too with the idea of an alternate world with the world full of war. Again, another war concept with slightly diffirent war systems and the real war the reality had. If you dont like or cant follow that type of show, you may dislike this anime even from the very first start scene.

To the main character at this really unique, they are different to the another specific show. With backsound matched well to the glory of the warfare. If you ... are fans of war, especially related by WW I and the event around it, this is my recommendation for you.

Story:
As always, at the beginning, i must warn that my information basically my understanding from the anime itself. No other resource material i had. so I can't compare it to anything which make the result being blurred and possibly conflict with the other. It should happen to this. I watch at the forum, there will be some misinformation at the anime, which not explain well detailed like the LN (this is the based resouces to the anime, you can look it at the internet) had.

Its ashamed me at the first. And then i am okay, no big problem. Since i really attach to this kind of the show, the little problem like the world explanations, and else, may come to the second thought of my judgement. I like the story concept. A concept about the world war, with slightly rewrite some of the history you may know (yeah, you had the power of the antagonist, she will never lost her battle, lol). Even, if they keep intact the warning tag, i can't help myself to always refer this to World War I state.

Because of that, i always wanna keep to watching and ask the questions. What should they do? Can they win the never end war? Can Tanya, the devil of Rhine win her battle? The answer got a well done explanations. Best action military i ever watch this year, no joke. Any other thing happen beside war concept? Yes, its main unknown power except the militair technology, a magic. Mage, which come to an army mage, by far beiing the elite manpower to victory the battle. Which somehow balance to every country, war strategy shall keep the way to winning the battle since the magic itself had their strength and weakness.

The rules has no intact to the main character one, Tanya the devil, had the most powerfull magic (imo, with stated at the anime, the talented one from born). Even her assistant had so much magic power (this is prolly no detail here, you can watch it by yourself to see her power. Hint: she can saved Tanya from the dead scene with her magic gold bullet, deep into the last scenes. Being X must be really hate with what happen. Lol). With the body of the kid, her power too big and can blow a fatal damage. With the most insane persona, her chara bring the story feel so dark sight, enjoyable battle fear, and others joy.

I like the idea about the reincarnation shit tho. Yes. Her devil smile come as a result being reborn to that world. No kid will had some shit and being super genius to magic and art of the war. As a result she just be a weird girl at her age, which is somehow sad for her. Btw, I like the world somehow same as the world in the past. By the time duration move, the truth telling me that the world just an alternate world, an isekai. Her experience come from reality, and really suit well to her Isekai. Pity for Tanya soul? Nevermind my thought, a wild grin Tanya suddenly popped out at face soon this explain to me to fear me. What a crazy badass loli. As the result of the main war done at the end, you may think this is over.

Hell no, the Saga always had the way to amuse her devil side. No holiday to Tanya. The curses continue, the goddess war Tanya and their crew join the inevitable war, once again. I feel some frustation, out there, i know. However, what else can she and her crew can really do? This is the world of war, she is an army, the most powerfull pawn to the empire. She cant do anything else beside cursing Being X, cursing till she crazy, till she became true devil. Can she survived till the world turn into the peaced? Or she just died forever like she should do at the very first scene? I dont have the answer to the story. You may wait long to the season 2 (or maybe it appear to the film), or just take a peak to the LN as the official main resource toward this show.

With that long run finished, i may give this 10 full points. Gladly, no other i can say to this great show. Well, move to another point. With the music, sound, and art thing. To the music, as a background to explain war was good. Perfect matching to the voice action. Fits well to the most of the character, and i give much appreciation to the Tanya's VA, she give so much effort to fill the sound. The cute side i get, her angry i somehow feel well, her devilish aura creeped me out so well. All is so amazing including the music and art aspects. All of them shall be giving my full 10 points!

However, not to the art. I somehow dislike the art to Tanya. An awkward art image expressing her facial. Horrible, as i may call it weird. I dissapointed with the art they choose to Tanya's facial art. It should give more beautiful and cute image to Tanya. Why give the best art to the ending or opening art, but you can not give best art to Tanya at the main scenes? If only it apply, this anime will get my best 10 score to the overall. I aggree with some people about that problem. Damn, poor for her. Her whole life disturbed as a pawn of an empire soldier, then her image not quite fit well and cant give the best art to her! Same thought for the other side character. I dislike the art, not be my best impression. I meh so hard about that. 6/10 for the art. Must be improving at the next season or movie!

Enioyment, character, and Overall section:
like the character personalization, even the supporting chara had their persona strong enough to buy some attentions. I like how the writer building up the story, making battle feel real (imagine watching this with VR), a tensed atmospherethe, a plot twist, the antagonist revenge, the protagonist devil side and her feared about death. All of them fix at the same pace. Maybe give a bit rushed, but its okay while it can make me cheered up a bit. 10 for characterization and enjoyment. But, no for overall. I give 9 at my max because of the art problem. Damn, if only the art give more effort, or is that the style? Idk, i just give it 9 rather i regret my decision. Still, this season was a masterpiece, and i really recommended to rewatched it for fun, and expect good thing toward another sequel. Dont forget about the novel, tho. It still up for more adventure by Tanya the devil of the Rhine!

I enjoyed this anime,but I have my complains due to it being so short we never really explored what's happening on outside nations which would've been great I haven't read it's manga so I can judge but as far as the anime go it was pretty much straight up that's the job type plot we were stuck with tanya who never got a powerful antagonist (Not saying there need to be one but something to give her a possible death challenge) only other thing that got me intrigued mary's story how she will now become a solider for world peace which is great, other then ... that.... this anime was pretty much a preview with tons of potential and not to mention we didn't get a legit ending so now I gotta check out the movie plus manga so far those that's my opinion/critics I'll give this anime 7 by not means I hate it or anything but it's just can explore so much...

When I first saw this anime I thought it was that gun gale (sao) as I was hearing about it so I shrugged it of. I regret doing that as when I took a closer look I saw a great show that surprised me. The main character Tanya and her assistant Visha are rememberable and you get attached to them fast. I like the feud between Tanya and Being X as it’s twisted through the main war, it keeps you wondering if Being X is pulling the strings with certain things and if Tanya is playing into it’s hands. The story gets a bit sticky ... and can get confusing but it straightens up in later episodes.

Overall I loved it and watched the 12 episodes straight, I would suggest it to any anime watcher who wants to see war, insanity and awesome fight scenes.

Youjo Senki (2017)

What a show. Rewrite World War One with magic and an unexpected side to take. Different people starting and hilariously similar names. This show is pretty damn great.

Tanya is an incredibly interesting character for someone that got put in an Isekai. Pure evil like a demon making this a fast-paced and intricate storyline. I especially like the mage vehicles that people use.

The art is great for the show and has aged extremely well. It shows off great effect.

The sound is explosive and ticks the box for having oomph behind it. Tanya has a great voice actor and the voice for ... Viktoriya is great.

Viktoriya as a character is really well done in her not quite so crazy as Tanya style but isn't the sweet girl she appears to be. Her eyes as well are deep and mesmerizing which throws it around in judging her.

Tanya has a really great character too. Pure evil it would seem but at the same time caring for those who work hard. The perfect worker in a sense, always striving for efficiency.

The show from start to finish was outstanding to enjoy. The action was great. The general scenes were great and the fog of war was so well done.

In the end, I give it a 10 and would recommend people to watch it for definite. Make sure you wait until after the credits as most episodes at the end have an extra scene.

In a nutshell: Nazi Loli, what more could you want?

If you're one of the people who don't think this is an enough reason to watch this, then just read this.

Story - 7
The concept of an arrogant business man reincarnated as a challenge against Go- I'm sorry, "Being X" was really enjoyable to say the least. It was such a simple idea that the MC is straight out evil and villainous. Yet, a lot of people loved Tanya, while at the same time they despised her thoughts. Also, the plot's progression was smooth yet chaotic, more chaotic than a real war. This ... anime might seem like a war between nations at the surface, but in reality it's a war between Tanya and Being X (I'll get to that later). The ending... it was such a mix feel of emotions, that's all I will say I don't want to spoil it.

Art - 9

Don't have much to say here. The way the hair and lips are drawn really give a character to studio NUT. A lot of people actually might disagree with me but I thought the lip and hair style were really visually appealing to look at. However, the often shown CG soldiers butchered my eyes.

Character - 8

Ladies and gentlemen, the moment you've all been waiting for. First, there's Tanya. Her character was really a great example of arrogance. She completely disregarded religion for just looking down on people who believe in it, even after meeting god himself. There are all the side characters which are pretty much fillers created by being X for Tanya, although they're all very interesting well done characters. Which gets me to my rant about Being X. Where do I start? Out of all the characters, Being X is the worst character of the all. First of all, He says managing 7B people was already hard for him, what does he decide to do next? Create an entirely new world (more people to manage) just to torture Tanya. Like seriously, this guy is a psychopath, I can get millions of other examples. Hopefully the creators would make an excuse for this.

Overall - 9

It was a pretty enjoyable anime. It has a unique style, story and art.

When you think about a battlefield, the last thing you expect to see is a little girl. No, I'm not talking about those cliche superhero scenes where someone's crying daughter is saved at the last moment. Think World War whatever number. The sound of bullets and shells being fired from all directions. A war zone with bodies everywhere. Not really a place to see a child. Well, prepare to have that thought process completely rewritten by Saga of Tanya the Evil.

Our story focuses on a simple nameless salaryman. Emotionlessly following the ways of the world, he was on ... his way to becoming one of the top businessmen in Japan... that is until he was pushed in front of a moving train by an ex-colleague he had just harshly fired. Moments before death, he meets a god-like entity which he calls Being X. After a conversation about his faith, Being X decides to resurrect our businessman into an alternate war-stricken universe as a little girl called Tanya Degurechaff, in hopes that his faith will increase when put in a desperate situation. The anime shows us how Tanya goes from an orphan with nothing to an elite soldier at an incredibly young age, rejecting God in every way possible.

Take bit and pieces from WW1 and WW2, insert some magic, and we get the world of Tanya the Evil. Most of the series is Tanya and her battalion fighting against the enemies of the Empire, carrying out orders to weaken the neighbouring countries and strengthen their own. Each episode is packed with so much action and/or drama that there's never a dull moment. Whether it be testing out new equipment or ambushing enemy bases, Saga of Tanya never ceases to bore as we are shown the terrible brutality of war. The magic is mixed in well enough so it doesn't feel out of place. All armies have their own magical soldiers that have the ability to fly and shoot magically enhanced bullets, providing quite the battle spectacle.

Tanya is a badass. Anyone that has seen this show can agree. Over and over we see her tactical mind and merciless behaviour reign supreme against hell on earth, pulling off each mission with outstanding success. As a character, she's quite likeable despite her ruthless attitude. In some ways we can kinda relate to her way of thinking, using any means possible to rise up in the world. She doesn't care about anyone except for herself, but she's shown off in such a way that we can't help but root for her. Why? Well, it's probably because of her rival.

Our MC is up against the soldiers of several armies, but her real rival is an actual god. The one that brought her to this world, Being X's only goal is to get Tanya to have faith. To achieve this, Being X manipulates the world from afar, forcing Tanya into extreme situations so that she may fall desperate and ask God for help. Every time Tanya tries to live a carefree life, Being X pulls some strings to throw her back onto the battlefield. He's a pretty good at messing shit up in the background, but this is where the show's major flaw appears. Tanya has no real physical rival. Tanya is pretty OP in a sense, able to defeat enemies quite easily. She doesn't lose much, so it can get kinda get repetitive when it's just her getting thrown back into war over and over just to just wipe out soldier after soldier.

The animation is pretty decent, with the action scenes really standing out as anything special. A few of the character designs are a little off-putting at first, but you quickly get used to it as your concentration turns towards the action and drama. There is also a few moments of CGI, but it's done so that it doesn't drastically stand out from the 2D. This series has to be applauded for being able to use 3D without ruining the consistency of the animation.

Saga of Tanya the Evil is an amazing show. The main character and the war setting all come together to create an amazing story of the struggles against the ultimate higher power: God himself! I highly recommend this to everyone.

You may can find bunch of fan based sh*ts out of there. But Youjo Senki is on another level of them. Author based this story on real WW1 then he included his isekai idea as very well way. Story begins with selfish middle aged salaryman takes karma for what he did. Middle of his death "Being X" freezes time and irate to him. Being X wants him in cornered in difficult of life. Then ma boy reincarnates to sentry 20th sentry with magic exists. Being X gives him bunch of pressures. First Being X takes his poor d*ck and changes his gender. She ... starts life from zero as baby that who has abandoned in poor nunnery middle of war. Luckily she has good magic ability with her born but it is just wish of Being X wanted him cornered in war. Those plots based on story line not on fan base shits.

Rotten commanders just slows down WW1. Many young soldiers dies because of them. People may say Tanya is evil. But those retard commanders are real ones. She may can be selfish but she does her best whole time. Other mob characters just yells him with trash words. That's nothing for Tanya. I amazed Tanya's strong heart and fighting spirit.
If this story goes similar to real WW1 it's there must be 2 sequels at least. I really wanna watch them. :3

Animation was normal but it was very well suited to story and characters.

Op, eds were good. I loved ed theme song. Osts were fantastic tho.
Characters voice were well suited. In early episodes Tanya's voice felt weird. But if think it back then it was suited as well.

Characters wills were strong. I really liked Tanya's dark side. She is so strong one. She maybe based on Hitler. Hitler hatred whole world but his people thanked him a lot.
Btw Anson and his daughter's wills give me chills.

I rewatched it 3 times for fully understand whole story line.In the end i really enjoyed season 1. Hoping other sequels come soon... :3

This is a fairly unique type of isekai anime that includes war, death and insanity, without feeling overly dark or dramatic. Which is why it's understandable how most mellow sheep who enjoy anime along the lines of "Kenja no Mago" and its tropes feel put off.

Youjo Senki is unique in a haystack of mediocre isekais with brain-dead MC's, two-dimensional storylines full of side-branches without an ending existing, and humor that makes anyone with half a brain cell frown. Not even cringe at the stupidity, just frown at how dumb the author takes its audience to be, which from the results of all those isekais shows ... there's an actual audience for it. Go figure.

Youjo Senki's visuals are amazing, the soundtrack gets your blood pumping, and the side characters have a depth beyond being an accessory to elevate the MC's power, intelligence or just being there for a simple side quest. This isn't an anime where you can just shut your brain off or go do something else, missing half the season, and not actually losing anything vital for understanding the show.

Tanya's insanity is a bonus that I personally greatly appreciate.

If you want something that's actually worth a watch, give this a go.

but i wondering about war and strategy so i'll give it try today... and i finished that in one go.

at the first sight(first episode) MC design really shit same with her sidekick Serebryakov, but the others it's fine fit with theme and war. but after eps. 2 plot thickened and after that I'm realized this is WW2 fck, if I know this before, I would watch this ... as soon as possible. Animation pretty decent not good but enough for scene in WW but the sound was amazing shot, explosion, blast, detonation, rapid sound after explosion really eargasm and more of that OP & ED that fit so well. MC Development was very nice. Invade Austria (this is a joke like real), Norway, Belgium, France. Execution for Blitzkrieg beautiful.

The Differences with WW2; the ideology of war was different and also we have magic here, bit technology advanced.

Youjo Senki, the Saga of Tanya the Evil.

An apt name for, what I believe, is an incredible show. It is one of very few to delve into a historical/fantasy setting with more intent than to merely showcase the latest in animation, color pallets, and fighting Lolies. Instead it goes far deeper and aims at a narrative that pits an antagonistic main character agains God himself. This makes for very interesting storytelling.

To start with the characters -
Tanya is an understandable, yet unfathomable, individual; singularly bent towards self-preservation and her own needs, she is very amusing to watch, particularly in how she interacts with both God, ... or "Being X" as she calls him, and her fellow human beings. Speaking of, the supporting cast are, for the most part, a fairly stock group of individuals that have occasional shots at genuine personality and humanity, but for the most part take backstage to Tanya's quest to outwit or even take a literal shot at God. However, there are a few moments where they do come alive and it is those few moments that help make the show truly enjoyable.

The Story -
The story starts out with the appearance of unoriginality; World War 1 with a little bit of magic thrown in so the studio can include more colors than gray and brown, but that rapidly changes with episode 2. From there, Tanya's saga unfolds in the unusual light of her relationship with "Being X", and the mounting number of challenging situations he throws her into. While there's plenty of episodic battles and blood-chilling murder-face to keep us interested and amused, the overarching story of Tanya's quest to outwit God unfolds gradually through the first 8 episodes, and then much more rapidly in the last 4. Looking back, I now realize that moments I thought were "lulls" in genuine plot development were actually necessary, and not just filler battles.

The animation and sound -
Both are very good, in my opinion, and particularly during the battle scenes. Studio Nut has held little or nothing back in producing this, its very first project, and this shows brilliantly when it needs to. The aforementioned battles are brilliantly animated and powerfully scored, and leave you more than a little bit impressed.

In sum, I believe that this show is entirely worth watching, so long as you are interested enough in one (or all as I am) of the following: history, military things, or religious/ethical narrative. I very much look forward to a sequel to this, and hope it's not long in coming; the one hang up I would have about recommending this show fully is that it definitely needs one.

That said, I loved it entirely.

Back when Youjo Senki first aired, I watched the first episode, thought "what the heck is this mess?," and went on with my life. After several people convincing me otherwise, I finally got back to this show as part of my backlog, and it was surprisingly enjoyable.

Pros:
1. It's great for the casual war/history fan. Like most things that are anime-fied, there's a sweet spot between "not interested in the subject IRL" and "obsessed with the subject IRL" that becomes the target audience for Youjo Senki. If you've seriously studied WWI, you're probably setting yourself up for disappointment, but if you're like me, and vaguely remember ... liking middle school/high school world history class, congratulations, you're in luck. Many battle tactics in Youjo Senki play out logically, and there's plenty of magic, violence, and action flashing across the screen as those tactics unfold.

2. The show moves along at a good clip, without an excess of foreshadowing/dramatic irony. Nothing is worse than when you know what the plan is, and it still takes forever to get there. Youjo Senki explains what it's going to do and then immediately does it, drawing you along for more and more decisive points of the war.

3. The dry, deadpan humor of some of the scenes after the ED. Don't miss out on those.

Cons:
1. The first episode starting in the middle of the action. I don't get it, and I personally feel like it didn't work. War battles need more context than what was given to be interesting/impactful, and I'm not really the sort of person who will watch a show just for the OP loli. The second episode is the "real" first episode that actually then takes you through the story chronologically.

2. God/Being X. Their actions are wildly inconsistent, and the whole theme of faith/religion is underdeveloped. Instead of being interwoven as a consistent underlying dread, they just up at random critical moments as a plus or a minus, and they seem to take way more offense at the MC not being properly in awe than with the MC's selfishness, which makes God/Being X seem super petty. I mean, it's a great way to get the audience on the MC's side, because God/Being X acts like an overpowered toddler instead of something more all-knowing, but it could have been a much more interesting dynamic/relationship if God was more, well, godly.


Art: 8/10, the background scenery looked very good and the action scenes were effective. The character designs also worked given what the show was trying to do but weren't my cup of tea. Serebryakova looked like a moe blob and what was up with the glasses guy's hair?
Sound: 7/10, the OP/ED were fine but not particularly memorable. There was no attempt to show people in different countries speaking in different languages or using magic as a translator, although maybe language diversity is just not a thing in this world? (Haven't read the source material.) Tanya's voice takes a little getting used to.

An arrogant man is thrown into an alternate world upon death. The man is reincarnated as a cute-looking blonde girl Tanya, a kind of ideal female figure for lonely anime fans. There’s a vicious world war going on and the hero becomes a soldier. She is good at magic, killing, and best, unlike many anime heroes, she is not a wimpy brat whining about saving humanity. She is ruthless. The main character makes Youjo Senki stand out among hundreds of alternate world (isekai) anime.

Tanya is what makes this anime worth watching. She is merciless. She doesn’t care what happens to people caught in the destruction ... she makes. But she is not insane. Tanya is a calculating, mostly rational character. She represents consequentialism, the idea that the end justifies the means. She orders killing even civilians to prevent the possibility that they can come back as soldiers to prolong the war. By killing a few innocent she wants to prevent immensely more casualties. Her ideas are simple and direct: be ruthless and fast in order to end the war as quickly as possible.

This is also how evil justifies itself. Mass murderers defend their ignoble actions by saying that it is for the sake of good results. All invasions throughout the history didn’t happen because the perpetrators had bad motives, but because they were “good” deep down. The Japanese empire attacked half of Asia to “help” weak Asians to develop. The Japanese army did crimes against humanity in Nanking because they claimed that the end will be good for everybody. Tanya shares the same mindset with the militaristic early twentieth century Japanese leaders. Her ideas are one-sided, narrow, and unfortunately not challenged seriously throughout the series.

I related the connection between Youjo Senki and real-life ugly truths to emphasize that anime is not innocent. It is not always escapism. It can serve to justify evil. Anime is a medium of telling tales and there are all sorts of tales. Some tales are insidious, they prey on the innocent.

Few anime, I could quantify as having been done flawlessly or even near so. So many anime are: so full of cliches; copied characters and stories; missing story elements such as foreshadowing; lack of cohesion within the context of the world created by the anime; or even forgotten rules or character traits revealed in one part of a series only to be ignored or forgotten or contradicted later on. Tanya is not one of these. Tanya is one of the few anime that appears to have been done on a technical level, nearly perfectly compared to most anime. It will surprise ... you. When I first started watching, I frankly expected little quality or entertainment and nothing more than mere distraction, but this show has quite a compelling story told in a riveting standout fashion.
In episode two, I saw one of the best dialogues between two characters i have ever seen. I have replayed just that banter more than once it is so powerfully dramatic and yet bears a ring of truth. Each episode the story got more mind blowing and engaging and better than the previous one. The show draws you in with how simple it starts out and bears a hint of a typical generic story of this set of genres. It deceptive in how your mind can be tricked into complacency then shocked into stunning surprise and interest.
We all ponder big questions of life like where we come from or what to believe in or about death. Tanya gets to ponder that and more such as a global fear that the world maybe out to get you. These remarkable real world anxieties and life reflective questions are a driving force for this series. These issues are constantly brought to light almost like Al visiting Sam in Quantum Leap. The biggest question and motivation of all for the show maybe faith. Yes it has religious overtones but they are quite subtle compared to other shows with similar genres and themes.
Tanya has a powerful grip once you start watching it. Between the technical side being done nearly perfectly and the story itself though not totally original in every way is compelling and interesting enough to keep attention from one episode to the next in a nearly growing addictive way, Tanya is one of the best anime from start to finish though there is hope for more seasons.
