Eve no Jikan

Really weird series in my opinion. Now dont get me wrong i do like it, theres just something about it that keeps me watching it. Basically its a story about robots no not robots androids and humans coexisting in this one place which its name excapes me, eve something. I do recommend that this anime is given a chance, although a new episode only comes out every 2 months its still a good one. I like the art and the sound effects, the story line confuses me but its not a bad one.

Eve no Jikan is the story of a cafe. In a world where Androids are commonplace, this is one spot where they are to be treated no differently than humans. As a matter of fact you will get in trouble if you treat them differently.

One can't watch this OVA without thinking of Asimov. Even the three laws were included and were done reasonably well. The story line itself was the opposite of Asimov however, focusing on character development over plot line.

Eve no Jikan does it's characters very well, each episode focusing on a different party who comes to the cafe. Where this show was ... lacking was on a plot basis, though towards the end they started and hinted at a plot it was left unfinished. Also, the character's relationships were just starting to come together, making it very easy to do a sequel. Though the show is good in it's own right.

Animation: 7/10 Nice, nothing outstanding, but nothing to complain about.
Music: 7/10 Again, nothing noticably good or bad.
Story: 6/10 Lacking on a plot basis.
Characters: 9/10 Excellent, one thing this show does well it's the characters.
Overall: 7/10 Worth watching more than once.

Note: I am more conservative than most in my ratings, having only a couple 10/10 and very few 9/10 shows. That being said I truly enjoyed this show, I'd love to see what happens next in the story.

I don't often feel the need to review things I've watched or read, as I go through a lot. For Time of Eve (or Eve no Jikan) I felt that it was worth my time to let people know.
I'm a bit of a mushy romantic comedy person myself, but every now and then I watch something different and usually I don't like it. This anime, is not only visually enchanting but it had me to the point of tears in the last episode.
If you feel like sci-fi is not your thing or you don't like a bit drama then maybe put that aside ... for this one because I promise you won't regret it. Time of Eve is a very well made anime and I will probably end up watching it over again, although I'm sad there's not more episodes.
I noticed that this was released in 2009 and for some reason I've only just found out about it, so I hope that this review incites more people to go watch it.

Lastly, if you liked Chobits for it's take on human and android interactions/emotions then you'll love Time of Eve.

I started watching this show with a bit of skepticism because I just couldn't imagine how they could introduce and develop characters, set the theme, and tackle a conflict in just six episodes, especially given how the episode are about 15 minutes long (except for the last one which is a little bit longer). This anime surprised me, however. Perhaps that's because it adapted a setting that is somewhat familiar if you've seen I, Robot or anything that involves humanoid robots (I, Robot is the best example I could think of. The similarity in the universes is uncanny).
If you've got an hour and a half ... to spare and you want an enjoyable and relaxing anime, watch this one. You won't regret it. It's not something that'll keep you on the edge of your seat, but it's something you'll enjoy and appreciate for what it is. I'd give it somewhere between 7 and 8.

This anime is really great!! The feelings after watching it almost can't be told!
I've seen 5 episodes out of 6. and i have no patience to wait until last episode is airing.
The story is really outstanding. robots would be used in the future, and with upgrading and updating a software they become used everywhere and the thing is what is the guarantee that one day robots wont stop being just an artificial intellingence but something that could make decisions itself without anyone's order, moreover something that would have feelings??

Time of Eve is a ONA series consisting barely 6 episodes, each of around 15 mins, with the exception of the finale being 30 mins in length. It was adapted from the movie of the same name and has a couple of extra scenes as compared to the movie. This is the review of only the ONA and not the movie, which I have never watched.

The story takes place on earth in a future wherein robots have become a common feature in everyday household. They are used primarily as maids or servants of the house and do menial jobs like shopping and cooking. The story ... also examines the increasingly blurring lines between a robot and a human, and the mental health of people especially teenagers who fail to make the demarcation. Despite all of these the main story is a more of a character study of the main guys Rikuo and Masaki. The plot follows the change in lives of two boys when they stumble upon a cafe which doesn't differentiate between a human and a robot; wherein the robot of Rikuo named Sammy is a regular customer. They interact with various customers who are present in the cafe during their frequent visits and learn what it means to be a human.

As for any character centric story the most important part of the story are the characters themselves, and this story had no shortage of well written and colorful characters. The main characters, Sammy, the barista, the lovers, the grandpa and his grand kid, all had their own difficulties and stories which defined who they were as a characters. Each episode focused on the couple of MC interacting with the different characters in MC. Through these conversations they discovered how little separated humans from robots; how the robots too wanted a life of adventure and opportunities just like humans had. Each character was written carefully and with utmost precision with their own quirks and such which made it difficult to tell them apart (between humans and robots). The writers took extra care of it as they did not let laziness affect their work, i.e, even the robot characters were written smartly, unlike in usual circumstances wherein all the robots are usually written as the same guys with slight variation in their personalities. The progress of both the characters was pretty good. Another thing I liked was the fact that the attitude of both MC towards the robots was different, by that I mean not only was their initial thoughts different, but the path that their progress took was also different in case of each MC, even if end destination was the same. Rikuo since the start was a bit more open minded and sympathetic towards the robot and throughout the story he bit by bit accepted the robots as similar creatures to humans. While Masaki was staunch believer in clear demarcation between robots and humans, but an major episode in his life at the end forced him to rethink his beliefs. Therein I felt writers did a tremendous job in writing each of MC and made them unique as well as fascinating people which emulated real life humans. The only reason I didn't give 10 to characters was because I felt 6 episodes, that too clocking only 15 mins each was a bit too short a time to develop them more; albeit given the time frame I do not suspect anyone else could have done a better job.

The art and animation were nothing extra ordinary but by no means were they were bad. To say that they were good but nothing great would be the perfect way to describe it. The art was elegant and simple, I would say it was graceful. There was quite a lot of use of CG, I am not familiar with the other works of the director but the CG never felt out of place. I often find fans complaining about the CG, though with this one the CG felt right at home and blended pretty well with the overall environment. The sound and overall music too was good with nothing much too complain about. The tune which preceded the opening made me feel like I was going on a happy and exciting journey and this anime made me feel just that.

One other thing that I feel most anime don't ay attention to are the dialogues. Despite anime being around for quite some time now, I always feel that most of them have terrible dialogues. Most anime focus on the MC sprouting cool lines rather than them having conversations, both ordinary everyday one and the occasion meaningful one. The ordinary conversations are lost in the manzai humor and the meaningful ones are lost in saying nonsensical and cliched cool lines. Though, I was glad that this wasn't such an anime. The dialogues were internal and essential part of the anime; which also helped in the character development and the overall progress of the story. The dialogues just like characters were well thought of. The dialogues contained both the fun bit and also serious discussion on a topic which might become an issue in real life in the foreseeable future. They were thought provoking and were easy to get into at same time, meaning they weren't cumbersome and weren't too full of philosophy which makes dialogues irritating. The dialogues were in tone with the rest of the show. The voice actors have done a good job in modulating their voice between that of robots in the cafe and in their everyday life outside of it, which made the premise more believable and engaging.

So, overall this is pretty charming anime series with a thought provoking theme. The idea that love knows no boundaries was conveyed pretty well. The only reason why this anime doesn't get a 10 is because I felt that it had lot of strings which weren't tied as well as I hoped it would; the entire reason for this would be that it was only 6 episodes long. Though don't let that be any reason for not watching this anime, for it doesn't prevent the anime from shining. For all SOL anime fans this one is a must watch.

Time of Eve is a Sci-Fi anime. It is set in future Japan and is about cyborgs.

So first of all the story was very good. It was mostly episodic and each episode was great and interesting. It is quite simplistic. I would have preferred a better ending as it felt unfinished but I think that it has one in the movie so ill check that out. The characters in the anime were all unique and interesting. The main character, Rikuo Sakisaka and his best friends exploits were funny and amusing.

The animation in this anime is amazing. It has many 'camera angles' (i don't know what ... to call them) that you can't see in any other anime. The animation is also quite fluid and fast. I watched the sub and the voice acting was good. The OP and ED were quite simplistic which I didn't mind but I would prefer if they put more effort into them.

In conclusion, I found this anime very entertaining with brilliant animation. I would recommend this to anyone intereted in anime with robot, android etc.

We humans are in fact similar to androids in many aspects. We are programmed in our genes and minds to feel emotions, love, and apprehension. If our amygdalas, the parts of our brains responsible for emotions, were removed, our behavior would be along the lines of an android with a ring on its head in Eve no Jikan. As we saw in Eve no Jikan, the androids, when given the chance, will show human-like emotions and feelings for those around them. With the added fact that the androids look and act identical to humans, we must ask ourselves: in the future, will there be any ... differences between humans and androids?

Eve no Jikan had a very "contemporary modern" feel with the cafe, artwork, androids, and soundtrack. What is known as pop culture today is not evident in Eve no Jikan; instead, the setting had a very tranquil and creative mood.

Eve no Jikan's artwork was very unique in that scenes were shown in more of a fixed camera point of view as opposed to the point of view of the characters. The artwork was very consistent and devoid of blemishes. The voice acting and soundtrack were also very considerable. The influence of the piano in both the plot and the soundtrack is very creative; the piano is not only a symbol of an ultramodern theme but also a symbol of emotion.

Eve no Jikan was a very engaging anime that had a lot of big ideas incorporated into its plot. The ultimate questions regarding the relationships between humans and robotic humans are presented in a very discussable and arguable manner.

Although Eve no Jikan is a work with elements of science fiction, and even uses some theories and themes about the coexistence of humans and machines in the near future, the anime actually seeks to develop this relationship in a more fanciful way with the theme – a kind of modern fantasy with futuristic elements.

The first scene in which the characters are introduced to the cafeteria space, a different reality is presented to that of the opening minutes. A reality that will oppose itself in relation to the daily life, both of humans and androids. Upon entering the cafeteria, the anime exhibits a freer tone, ... making the viewer's perspective on the characters, conversations and situations very personal in that place.
The very exterior of the cafeteria has a somewhat enigmatic light that surrounds that place, as if indicating that there is something abnormal there. Even the corridor where the characters pass from the outside to the inside of the cafeteria also presents elements that suggest a change in realities.

Yoshiura is the director who best uses the CGI technique to his advantage. It's not that CGI used as a kind of “ornament”. Like when the anime uses it without trying to look like it's actually CGI - how some anime seems to be afraid to make it appear in the middle of 2D. Here, Yoshiura not only uses it, but shows it almost explicitly. He really takes the technique as something concrete, as part of that reality. Some spaces in the scenarios gain a kind of “fake” dimensionality, but which has a very effective purpose within this more fanciful space that the anime creates.
Another good use besides scaling the objects and characters very well in these spaces, are some camera movements and shots from a more objective perspective. One of the great strengths of using 3D in animations is being able to move the image more freely, which in 2D is a more difficult result to achieve. This camera movement that observes things, almost as if it were some kind of entity. The anime for many phases makes plans in which the spectator is placed in the vision of some character that walks through that space. This objective and personal perspective of the shot takes on greater importance in the humanization of the characters, especially when the anime makes some more subtle shots.

The human characters have a distant relationship with the androids when not inside the cafeteria. Even in the first episodes, the anime presents a mixed look of these characters with the rest of the things - because until then, they are really objects. The androids' expressions and the way they dialogue when answering a question is always with a distanced tone. This relationship is gradually being deconstructed over time.
Their relationship outside the cafeteria sometimes takes on a more melancholy and dramatic tone. In the scene of Sakisaka walking in the rain with his android, Sammy, when soon after, some people appear right in front, and he leaves her in the rain to get wet out of shame. The android's reaction is to stare at him, and then look straight ahead, but without showing sadness, anger or any emotion at that moment. It's a very strong scene, and despite being simple, it carries the weight of that character, probably hiding or really not being able to express what he feels with that act. Or in the first episode, when the two main characters come across Akito's character while still at school. The anime intersperses two shots of both looking at each other (Sakisaka and Akito), switches to a shot in which we see the character from the protagonist's subjective perspective, and then in the same shot, there is a slight upward movement that reveals a halo, indicating that the character is also an android. And once again, we see a restrained and unfeeling reaction.

Developing a human identity and feelings in machines is not really new in science fiction. However, the difference with Eve in Jikan, and perhaps with the director's entire approach, is that the concepts approached by him only serve as a ladder to something greater that is built in his works.
All this humanized construction of androids does not necessarily have such a direct involvement with scientific theories. And yes, it is true that some things are mentioned, such as the 3 laws of robotics and other theories, but all this scientific logic is in the background, and is brilliantly subverted by this fanciful structure that the anime builds.
The anime actually ends without an explanation or justification for the androids to act like ordinary people. They can actually become or come closest to being human when they are inside the cafeteria; it could be that they have feelings like humans and just repress and hide it when they're out of the cafeteria. But these explanations or truths about what happens to androids inside and outside that place, in the end, don't matter. What really matters is that Yoshiura believes in the real charm that that place presents, even if in the end, he doesn't solve the mystery about him.

This way of solving his themes and approaches in a fanciful way, even starting from some scientific and theoretical ideas, is something already used by the director previously in other of his shorts, and it remains evident in his works after Eve no Jikan. It's a dangerous way to create and approach a theme, since currently, few people still have this sensitivity to connect with works that are based on fantasy, and imagine if this relationship starts from something scientific. (Makoto Shinkai and Shinichiro Watanabe say so).

Eve no Jikan tells the heartwarming story of segregation in a futuristic society and how a boy named Rikuo experiences both sides of the issue. It is reflective of our modern world as well as cultures from centuries before. I believe this short series would be one of my favorites if I wasn’t so perturbed by a detail that was never resolved. I can only describe it as a significant plot hole left behind by careless writing, and it distracted me for the entirety of my viewing. I will spoil a little of this anime, but let me explain; Rikuo’s connection to the android world ... is through his maid robot, whom he assumed had no sentience. Once he learned of her escapades, they develop a special understanding of each other. This bond combined with Rikuo’s obvious attraction to her should indicate a romantic undertone, right? Actually, their relationship never sprouts out of the ground. I know for a fact that the maid robot has sex functionality since she pretty much mirrors a female in every way. It wouldn’t be a realistic future if you couldn’t bang your life-like Roombas. So why didn’t they go the obvious route and contrive a taboo romance between Rikuo and the android? Although this complaint seems like a nitpick, it is exceedingly frustrating to watch such a low-hanging fruit never be harvested. It is apparent that the writers intended Eve no Jukan to be a love story, so I’m not sure why they scrapped it at the last second. Regardless, this is an enjoyable watch. The protagonist and his robot slave may not have hot metallic sex, but they stand alone as solid characters. They live in a city where robots, although possessing many human traits, are treated as objects and abused (though not sexually for some reason). It is fascinating to see the different perspectives in their society and how Rikuo learns to accept the right thing.

Would have rated it 8/10 if they kissed and 9/10 if they smashed, but Rikuo and his virgin sexbot get a 7/10. This ONA made me think deeply about its qualities and I hope I could provide an in-depth review to express that much.

"Are you enjoying the Time of Eve?"

I certainly enjoyed the time of eve, this six episode ONA portrays the near distant future in which the use of androids are like an everyday household item.

However they are treated by a large portion of society as monsters and are often discriminated against by humans, people treat the androids as emotionless servants.

This anime was interesting as as to see what it would be like if the use of androids was an everyday occurrence.

The story goes about telling the relationships of humans and robots in a cafe where human and robot identity is thrown out of ... the window.

Each character gets a good deal of development and at times will have you guessing is this person a robot or a human?

It teaches you that it doesn't matter if someone is a robot or a human and regardless of whether or not someone is human that they still have feelings, emotions, identities and their own individual lives.

Overall this is a very good anime and i would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of sci-fi.

In most cases involving short anime, the are often not able to properly convey the right combination of character development, plot, and conflict. However, this wasn't the case for Time of Eve, it was skillfully executed in a short 6 episodes, with a shorter 15-20 minute per episode layout as well.

In terms of sci-fi, it seems very odd for it to be paired with the genre slice of life, but they pulled it off extremely well, the only problem was that it should have stuck to it more often, it tried to create a subplot of showing the creator of said androids and other aspects ... in that field, not that it was necessarily a bad thing, but it kept you wanting more, but did not satisfy the questions we have with the answers given. I would've preferred if the topic had not even been mentioned.

The story seems to revolve around the relationship between androids and humans in their everyday lives, some believe the androids are being mistreated, and others view those people as "android-holics," and are shunned by the general public. The MC seems to be in between both categories of people but can admittedly agree that androids aren't human, until he goes to the cafe, which is where all the character development goes down.

The art wasn't anything to be excited about, it's about average when it comes to production of art but the art style does seem unique in a sense.

The music wasn't anything special either, it was relevant to the mood of the interactions of each character with one another, and fit in nicely.

Character development was all about this show, I won't go in depth because that would involve spoilers but I will say that the views of many people are changed because they took into consideration the other persons point of view.

I very much enjoyed this short anime, and I won't lie in saying that I was skeptical about this series but it did not disappoint, in fact it surprised me, it left me wanting more, I'm gonna go watch the movie next and probably review that as well.

The characters are one of the best things of this anime, they feel real. All of them have struggles that people can have in real life. Frustration, loneliness, doubts about what people think about me, the secrets we keep each other to don't make others feel bad and all this things...

As I said I started this anime without any expectation and I found something that I will tell my friends to watch. I love this kind of animes that makes you think about the future or change the perspective about ideas you have.

I think is a must to see anime, is not the best but not the worst. If you have an afternoon and you don't have nothing to do you can watch this! ^^

PD: In some aspects it made me think of Ghost in the sell if you like the debate about what difference about a human and a robot.

The creation and use of robots has been a debating subject for decades. Many ethical issues have emerged concerning whether these machines should dominate in the production line in factories, the health sector, engineering and so on. Many assume that they carry off the jobs of thousands of unemployed people, they cost a lot in electricity, maintenance and sources in general and cause accidents due to their automatic and inflexible settings.

So, when the creation of artificial intelligence androids is brought up, the reactions vary from hesitation to upright denial. How can we pretend to be God and create human-like creatures? What if they try to ... manipulate us or harm us? What will happen if we get attached to them and substitute relationships with real people?

Well, in this anime, the androids are programmed according to the three laws of robotics: robots will never hurt humans and obey them in the first place. But what about relationships between humans and robots and how to handle and behave to a robot? Is it inferior or better than you, given it is programmed to think and behave without complexes and spite?

Story : 8
A boy whose family possesses an android starts to get concerned about its behaviour and eventually finds out that it goes to a certain place on its own free will. This place is a cafe that imposes a rule to everyone who visits it: Humans and robots must be treated equally while they are there. Rikuo - the boy mentioned above and main character - accompanied by his friend Masaki, become frequenters and meet many people (or maybe androids?) and pry into their backrounds and reasons to be there.

Art : 7
Art was fine, I found the slow-motion parts to be quite original. The only thing that bugged me was the occasional CGI. Animation was fine too, it made the robots very convincing and distinguishable when they were in their "obedient" mode.

Sound : 7
Nothing special, the episodes didn't even have opening theme. But the voice acting and effects were ok.

Character : 8
That was the best part. Every character develops nicely, both humans and androids. That was the main purpose of this anime anyway: to show as the feelings of the humans towards robots and vice versa. Rikuo is prone to feel sympathy for the androids, although he can't accept that they can act on their own. He is very curious about them though and tries to fully understand them. Masaki seems to be very strict and keeps reminding Rikuo that he shouldn't empathize with them so much. I can't say more about them, because there will be spoilers.

Enjoyment: 8
A thought provoking anime with which I passed my time very pleasantly. I also recommend it to those who like futuristic themes.

Time of Eve is wonderful short six-episode OVA, that despite not having the greatest visual or audio fidelity even for it's time, manages to flesh out it's interesting characters and explore actual themes even on it's meager crowdfunded budget. More so than 99% of the seasonal anime that get produced with a budget 50 times larger.

As excepted of a story about androids, themes about humanity are explored but not any way that feels redundant or tedious. Characters say and behave in interesting ways and the entire premise of the show, a cafe which self-aware androids attend in a clandestine manner, provides a vehicle through ... which many thought-provoking, introspective moments may be had.

I thoroughly recommend this show to anyone seeking something beyond generic seasonal Idol, Isekai, etc anime. It delivers all one could ask of an OVA, especially on the budget it was produced with, and I think the only negative emotion I felt in my time with this show was some mild disappointment that there wasn't more.

Before you start reading this review, i would like u all to know this is my first review.

Let me start by saying this - Its better than Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood..
I know, I know...some whom might be reading this review might think i am going a little overboard...but well everyone has his /her own sense of liking.

The anime overall was excellent, and i wouldn't want to change a thing about it...
Remarkably short and to the point this anime one to watch and if u haven't watched it yet...pal ur missing the anime that will change your perspective about a lot of things.

If ur searching an ... anime that will make u feel satisfied, has a little romance, school life...
This anime wont fail to amaze you.

Lovely short story about androids living among the general public. One of the top sci-fi fantasies ever. The robot cleaning after you, looks and dresses like you want and does everything without asking. I don't even dare to guess which book/movie portrayed this vision first.

In these six episodes we get to see many different point of view on the subject. I don't want to get into any details so, generally speaking, you get one episode for every aspect. Simple human-robot relationships, ignorance and slavery, doubts and justice, love and friendship, parenting and careers, media coverage and behind-the-scene groups trying to push their vision ... through power disregarding everything in between.

The warm atmosphere, unusual art, camera work and a very good soundtrack transport these at a nice pace, not only allowing the viewer to think about the subject for a second, but also to enjoy the scenery and tag along with the two male leads trying to wrap their head around this themselves.

Not a "must see", but i "highly recommend" as this is just a well made, not so everyday, anime.

Time of Eve is a rather short series, and although it is short it is one of the most well done "robot" type anime I have watched. I haven't watched many so that may be why, but either way it was good enough for me to enjoy watching it.
My review is going to be based on the impression it gave me while watching it, and I say this because I think it may have giving different messages to different people. Anyway I hope I can at least convince someone to give this a try, I have not watched the movie yet, but I plan ... to as I an told it has more detail.

Story
So in a world where androids (Robots) are being used more commonly you can't show gratitude towards them without being considered (a name I forget) Anyway while watching I was wondering why they weren't being polite toward the robots because they may be machines, but they still did something for them, and they were acting like shallow jerks, but it seems that it is the way people are expected to treat their androids, and anyway basically the owner of one robots tracks their robots movements and ends up at this weird coffee shop and then the story begins. I have to say that the story itself is very interesting but at the same time I couldn't quite put my finger on the main point of the story, was it about how robots are treated unfairly, or maybe it was about our main character and how he once had issues with robots along with his friend. I really couldn't figure out. I still overall think it is a nice story but if you need to have a pacific plot point then you may want to find another anime to watch, also the ending felt like it was unfinished, and frankly it was kind of a cliff hanger. Overall for the story considering it was a 6 episode story it was fairly well done.

Art
Now the art was really well done. As I normally say in almost all my reviews I really am not picky on art, but it was drawn well, an it gave the anime a more homey feeling if that makes any sense. I also felt that the art gave off how the robots were feeling, when the robots were being mistreated the art looked gloomy in a sense. I really hope I am making sense, but either way I really liked the art.

Sound
Now for sound something else I really don't care to much about unless it is outstanding. Now this anime did not have any intro or ending song. I liked the music that was played at the ending of each episode. It always fit. I also liked the song that was played on the piano at one point, although I was confused on what happened with all this piano business. Anyway I found the music to be okay, but not the greatest.

Character
Now I am kind of being generous for even giving a seven, but again for a 6 episode series it was okay. There were many characters I was confused on, but maybe that was the point, I barley even found out about the main characters "issues" I did understand that characters all had their issues with either robot laws or how they were treated, and some may have even had issues with robots in general, but all the issues revolved around the same subject. However that doesn't make up for the fact I barley even seen characters stories in a sense, there was some development, but what had happened in the past to make them the way they were, or what made them go to that place, maybe the point was to show that robots and humans were the same and the reason for us to not know much was so we could get a better feel. Frankly I will probably never know but at the same time I felt that little mystery made me watch the show with a little more curiosity.
Again I am sorry if that made no sense.

Enjoyment
So the question is did I enjoy the show, and again for a 6 episode series it was fairly well done, so I will say yeah. I enjoyed the series to an extent waiting to see where the story went, was I disappointed by the ending well I was a little but I still enjoyed watching, I also enjoyed how the anime had a homey feeling to it. Again I wish the ending was different, but maybe the ending was meant to be the way it was.

Overall
By now if you made it this far in my review you are probably very confused, and wondering if you should bother watching this anime. If you are looking for a calming and relaxing anime to watch that you will now look to deep into then I suggest this series, but at the same time maybe you need to look deep into the series to fully get it. There was so many things that confused me when I finished this mainly because of all the cliff hangers, which is why I say if you wont look to deep into t you may enjoy. So really if you like robots give it a try. Frankly it will vary from person to person I enjoyed the anime, however as I ave been saying I am still wondering about a lot of things. I hope I made things clear, just give it a try I will say as my last statement.

What does it mean to be human? Where is the line between orchestrated, programmed action and sentience? It's ground that has been covered time and time again in media from triple A action movies to obscure dollar store sci-fi novels, to anime beloved by this community such as Ghost In The Shell. Shows basing themselves around this theme run the risk of simply being redundant. In comes Time Of Eve to offer a fresh take on a premise long run with.

From its very first moments Time Of Eve comes out of the gate intent on drenching you in atmosphere. Washed out colors, strong lighting, ... and vibrant whites give off a dreamy feel, which is furthered by the deliberate, albeit sometimes overly choppy animation. The camera pans around scenes in a way that resembles film almost more than it does much of anime, and the framing of a lot of the shots is truly impressive. It isn't always perfectly executed, but the aesthetic fits the show very well. Bonus points go to the backgrounds which are spectacular. Rich and detailed, but always retaining the mood that the color palette and lighting create.

To fill this world oozing with style you have some very strong characters that don't really act within an overarching narrative, but simply ARE the narrative. To be clear, Time Of Eve isn't sci-fi in the traditional sense. It doesn't exist to create a layered narrative about science, or technology, but to tell a story about people. How they are different, and yet very much the same. How they desire to love and be loved, to understand and be understood. Every character the show fleshes out over its(sadly only six) episodes is vibrant, nuanced, and likeable, but the handling of the main character Rikou, specifically, is masterful. There is growth there that it takes a lot of skill to showcase over a run time of less than two hours.

Time of Eve isn't a hard show to understand. It isn't a long show to watch. It doesn't require additional reading, delving into its source material, or rewatching segments to understand. It's simple, beautiful, and above all else very human.

Where to start with this beautifully crafted 6 episode long (Yes I'm going to say it) masterpiece?

I suppose the plot is probably a good place to begin. Put simply the entire plot both revolves and does not revolve a singular quiet little café and scores a 1010 with ease in my book. "That makes no sense I hear you utter towards your screen' (that or i'm hearing voices inside my head) So let me explain, here the characters are all involved in a nationworld wide debate on how robots should be viewed and treated, but at the same time the anime hints and centres around ... the fact that various and the most basic of interactions, in somewhere such as a quiet little cafe, can make the most significant differences in the lives of everyday people (and robots - but I shouldn't differentiate between the two as per the intriguing rules of the café which helps set the basis of the anime).
Anymore and I'd be giving spoilers. But I will add that the ending is very satisfactory and well done in my opinion with most questions answered and plenty of room for more content (please by the power of god, grey skull, or anything let there be)

Characters: The characters are sublime and all have their own unique personalities. Eve no jikan excels in displaying how by negating outside social implications from people they can truely come to know and understand each-other where as they couldn't before hand. To summarise, there is a truckload of very well paced character development to be found here, especially in the two main male protagonists as they come to understand, accept and reject the world around them along with its people.

Art and sound: The art was very good and I had no problems what so-ever throughout the entirety of the anime. The sound complemented the art beautifully and set a unique air/feeling (meant in a brilliant way). I really don't think they could have done a better job.

Overall enjoyment:
I was almost immediately captivated by this anime which I will have to rewatch again in the near future. It was an anime that got me thinking but did all the thinking for me and left a slight grin on my face by the end of it. Not only does it reflect how much of a problem social stigma is but also how easy it is to overcome (and give into). Not only did it make me cry it made me smile. Not only do I view this anime to be good, I view it to be one of the greatest pieces of work I may ever see and will recommend it to anyone at the drop of a hat.

In other words this is a must see for anyone who respects good story telling and I am overwhelmed by the fact that I only came across eve no jikan by chance.
