Both have participation by Leiji Matsumoto, although his role is more limited in Yamato than in Arcadia. In both movies the namesake is a magnificient, orgasmic battleship. Similar epic storylines , mangy space dogs and slender space godesses (Maja and Emeraldas in Arcadia , Yuki in Yamato). Amazing '70s sci-fi aesthetic . If you loved the one you'll feel warm in the manly embrace of the other.

Both films act as prequels that shape our leading hero into a legendary man whose purpose is to bring peace and freedom.

Both of these movies serve as prequels to their respective series by introducing the main characters and the main conflict. Both are epic space operas that focus on an intergalactic war between two opposing sides. They also have main characters who share similar goals.

Also by iconic anime and manga creator, Leiji Matsumoto. Rich characters and stories with a signature look and feel. Frequent "cross pollination" of characters between series.

Both movies take place in futuristic settings, each diving into loss of some kind. Another feature – both are adapted from older series. The plots are also dark, but that’s as far as I can go without going into spoilers for this particular series.

Look to the future and find dystopian series where one group of individuals is worried about the future, with certain individuals fighting to change their destinies despite all of the pain that goes with it, including the loss of friends and other loved ones.

The underbelly of society is dark, but society advancing to the next level won’t change this. Sometimes, it will make it come out even more, leading to dark times for the heroes and those around them.

Reaching space is often seen as a dream come true, yet in both of these movies we learn that actually isn’t the case. Both movies showcase a darker side of space travel, some of the horror aspects, and they’re older movies as well, for those looking for some of the more classic pieces.

Outlaw Star and Arcadia of My Youth are all about space operas spiced with rebel ships and plenty of action to boot. Both are seasoned with plenty of cheese and take place in a distant future in which several factions are in conflict. Outlaw Star has plenty of humour and does not take itself too seriously for the most part while Arcadia of My Youth is greatly dramatic but there are enough space related battles going on to assure that these titles could share the same fanbase.
