This is also an action-adventure tale, but it is a much tighter plotted and more memorable production overall. Both are nonetheless beautifully animated and gorgeously scored, and have excellent dubbing overall.

Gedo Senki, meet your older, smarter sibling, Mononoke Hime. Gedo Seki may be based on the Earthsea novels, but Mononoke is considerably deeper, and every bit as visually and aurally impressive. To the inverse, if you've seen only Mononoke, Gedo Senki is worth watching for those visuals, and because it's Earthsea.

Especially going forward in the Manga of fumetsu no anata e, there is a similar fantasy vibe. Great worldbuilding, and a similar pastural feel at times. I feel like the two could take place in a similar universe. They also have similar themes of death. Gedo Seki has a bad reputation since it did not do a good job adapting to the source material, but as a standalone film it is quite magical.

The similarities between these two anime: - Both produced by Studio Ghibli. - Similar art, character designs, fluid animation and beautiful backgrounds. - Similar setting: events happen in a fantasy world. - Both have wizards as main characters. - Both have main characters who are emotionally unstable and have "darkness" in their hearts. - Both action have action and romance elements, as the two lead characters become romantically involved. - Both anime are based on a series of western fantasy novels.

although both productions are telling totally different stories, both of them take a deep insight into humans' souls, their sercet desires and weaknesses. both treat about people who lost their way and now seek the way back. set in different realities, Haibane Renmei as well as Gedo Senki points out that no matter how much we sin, we are only humans and there's still the hope for us if we are able to admit our failures. to sum up, both are great anime worth giving a try.

I am going to say that if you are interested in dragons and you liked one Anime, you very well may like the other. I can't go into more detail else I'll give spoilers for "Gedo Seniki" for those who haven't seen it yet.

Even though the production values are different, both anime share similar themes and settings. They both focus on relationships between humans and dragons, and have several action scenes, even some dragon vs dragon fights. Both anime are set in similar fantasy worlds, and have a similar vibe.
