Yet the draw of both of these series comes from the series following new characters on adventures separate from the previous series of characters, although for the Pokemon series Ash is a known constant. The character styles also improved as the series progressed and it might be possible to pick up either series without perhaps knowing what happened in the predecessor series.

Pokemon and Medabots are shounen anime and they pretty much alike. Both anime's are about a boy, who lives alone with his mother, that gets a pokemon/medabot as their partner. They become friends and battle a lot with other people. They wanna become one of the best and to do so they participate into competitions. Both series also got some "bad guys" and they are complete idiots, they always lose in the end.

Both classic kids anime, both became mainstream trends that took over schools and playgrounds across the world. Both tie in to real world products (toys, games etc.). Both follow headstrong & confident young kids on an epic adventure. Both art styles have that cute/cool balance.

Both later seasons of classic franchise kids anime. Both feature young heroes moral plights alongside their sentient monster friends. These worlds both establish a competitive aspect between their respective casts and in their world building at large.

The Diamond & Pearl series is an awesome follow-up to the Advanced Generation series! The last 1.5 seasons of AG make a great transition point since elements and Pokémon from the Sinnoh region are gradually introduced throughout this part.

Both series of larger spanning immensely popular kids anime franchises (Pokemon & Yugioh). Both have monsters used by their human characters to battle each other (pokemon & duel monsters). Both monsters are inside objects like the yugioh cards and the pokeballs. Both have huge varieties of different monsters with cool designs.

Both have young protagonists who control monsters to battle. There both have comically incompetent evil teams that often clash with said heroes. The monsters can be both cute and tough. They get into a relentless amount of battles and show unyielding determination to win.

Both iconic kids anime about young heroes, competitive battles and varied & powerful monsters.

Similar to Pokemon but the stories are a little less repetitive and gets slightly darker than Pokemon as the seasons go on.Both shows are about kids that find friendly powerful creatures and go on an adventure with them.Though with digimon the monsters are digital creations instead of real lifeforms and unlike most pokemon digimon can talk.Nonetheless both are great children's shows about friendship between kids and creatures.

Both kids anime shows where our heroes continuously defeat a team of comically incompetent enemies. Both have cute little monsters that our heroes collect and battle with that can also evolve and change shape/form to become more formidable. Both have great world building in the way they establish each and every character and monster, and how they relate to the world around them.
