Synopsis

While enjoying a barbecue alongside team members and peers, Naruto Uzumaki stumbles upon a strange old bottle that houses a genie! The mythical being is willing to grant three wishes, but in a flurry of excitement, Naruto ends up wasting the first two. Outraged, Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno start fighting with him over the last remaining chance.

As the other ninjas join the dispute, the whole matter—before they know it—turns into an all-out brawl for the precious container.

Background

Although Naruto Soyokazeden Movie: Naruto to Mashin to Mitsu no Onegai Dattebayo!! was screened together with Naruto: Shippuuden Movie 4 - The Lost Tower and shares a common animanga version with the film, the OVA falls within the first series' timeline somewhere between "Chunin Exams" and "Sasuke Recovery Mission" arcs, or from episodes 68 to 107 respectively, unlike the movie.

This Naruto short is strikingly gorgeous when you look at the visual quality, and the story is, though largely predictable, captivating. The makers have pulled off an Aladdin twist on Naruto this time and have largely succeeded. A lot of things about the story are predictable, but in a good way instead. There's a lot of cool action and comedy throughout. No drama. Just 14 minutes of typical Naruto fun. Even though you might be familiar with the genie concept, it still keeps you engaged amidst fast-paced chasing action to find out what wish is exactly fulfilled in the end. It truly is worth it.

It's nice to have a little special in the original Naruto anime now and then. This one had a nice ring to it. I find the genie concept really humurous. This special is almost equivalent to the holy grail war from the Fate/Stay Night series only with Naruto characters. We see a little bit of character development behind the characters here (i.e. What they wish for). The subtitles were poorly edited but even if it had subtle subtitles, the results of this review would be the same. The results of this review: The special was phenomonal!

Mixed Feelings
Specials come in all shapes and forces, but definitely not in form of movies. Correction: this is NOT a movie.

This episode could have easily passed as one of the filler episodes, I still don't see its co-relation to the fifth movie but there you go, a Genie wakes up and all the kids wreak havoc to make their own personal wish, it really does remind you of how clumsy Sasuke once was, makes you kinda miss him when it was all fun and play, an, of course, some Kakashi fun into the mix as well, it can never go wrong.

Honestly, I don't see anyone watching ...
