Seitokai Yakuindomo OVA

Well if you enjoyed the previous 13 episodes of Seitokai Yakuindomo you're bound to enjoy this one:)
This series hasn't got a deep plot/deep thought/visuals or any of that stuff
it just works magic with a few ingredients:
sexual references and visual puns
in well known surroundings, aka an Academy, a student council filled with three girls and one guy.

You should watch this series because the humour is great, a smile stayed on my face the entire OVA, never a dull moment,never taking itself seriously.
Also haven't noticed this in other reviews but the sound is very well used for comedy purposes throughout the series and in this OVA.

Oh yes ... the story:), so it's the first day of school for Tsuda's sister + a new character,won't spoil the surprise here...

Our beloved Seitokai Yakuindomo group returns with a few new twists
Tsuda his sister gets a more prominent role and has more interactions with everybody.
Also a temp teacher for her class ,a couple of new characters
yet instead of feeling forced
the sexual puns continue in a greater tempo and new boundaries are being sought, woohoo

If everyone had a student council and schoolmates akin to Seitokai Yakuindomo school life would be anything but dull. Just G spots everywhere. EVERYWHERE.

Seitokai Yakuindomo was a great joy to watch as well as shock for me. When it first debuted I was sort of in disbelief, since I had not been introduced to a show of its classification with regards to jokes and mannerism. This was also before the time I had knowledge of the shows source material, so coming into the series fresh was a advantage and after awhile, it began to grow on me, and I eventually came to enjoy it this ... hearing there was an OVA I was highly excited.

Seitokai Yakuindomo definitely is not for everyone, but for the adventurous and bold and extremely dirty, it might be far enjoyable than imaginable. It does have some minor nuisances such as the repetitive jokes , but they are far outweighed by the positive and in most cases disregarded. With the OVA’s in progress, I can only hope that they hint toward a second season, but really is fine without one. If you like brash humor, amusing antics, and all other manner of random silliness, this series might be up your alley. If everyone had a student council akin the members of Ousai, school life would be more picturesque and enjoyable, yet for the most of us, looking from far is good enough.

These episodes will suck you in, strip you of your innocence and kill you a little bit on the inside from all that laughter.
Yes, the element of predictability was decently high, but at the end of the day, it accomplished the aim of a comedy series so I'm fine with it.

Ok so this is an edited review because I simply learned that the damn studio of this OVA has suddenly change his mind and decide to add a couple more episodes, without further adieu, I hereby present my ratings which by the way are all 5's:

Story: Mediocre 5.

This OVA doesn't simply fare off from it is parent anime, it is still all about them 3 girls with sex on their mind and a dude who's still playing it cool despite of being the constant victim of the girls bathroom humor.

Art: Mediocre 5.

Well, there is is no need for me to indicate since it is very ... obvious, there is no panty shots nor any daring ecchi in it, but there is a judo club consolation in episode 3 where the girls are changing and that's as good as it gets. I don't know if there will some in upcoming episodes.

Sound: Mediocre 5.

Character: Mediocre 5.

Well, as usual the student council are still there, that nosy paparazzo girl is there the judo club president and the teacher are all there as well and with them is with their very usual perverted opinion. But I really like the new character added in this anime, maybe we'll see her again in the upcoming episode.

Enjoyment and Overall: Mediocre 5.

I'd probably say that this OVA should have been included as among it's parent anime's episode, in fact a season 2 would be much better than an OVA since that the guy's sister is already in the same highschool as the guy was studying . Overall, it is not bad, but it is not all good either, but I'm rather pissed at the GoHands studio for being wishy-washy about the number of episode it planed for this OVA.

Hey! GoHands studio, make up your mind, how many episode does this OVA have to be, why not make a season 2 instead?

Well, I'll assume you've watched season one if you're looking at the Seitokai Yakuindomo OVAs. Honestly, even though 8 ovas is a lot, as a whole or even stand alone these were pretty much just as good as the original series. The story didn't change, obviously. You'll get more of the same type of sexual comedy that you should be used to now. Don't be expecting character changes, new opening and ending themes, newer animation style, etc. Basically everything, is the same old stuff you must have liked from season if you're looking at this.

I do ... have two reasons for why I don't think the ovas and season 1 are equally as good. The first being that the one reoccurring segment kind of gets old fast and it's not nearly as funny as the other jokes. The second being that the animation and art quality seemed to drop a little in the last episode or two. A lot of scenes seemed to be really grainy compared to scenes from previous episodes. These are the only complaints I have.

If you liked season 1, check this out. I think you'll enjoy it like I did.

SYD is back for more. Still funny, still gross, and there's more.

It is always a grand move when anime series release OVA episodes as means of taking more risks with their audience along the way and present something that is a bit edgier and riskier without being too radical. SYD did just that and then some. Honestly, if you're not at all feeling shocked and amused with "Dried Squid and Takatoshi" mini arc, then perhaps it's best for you to switch to one of those Marvel or DC Animation realms.

Anyway, let's keep this review short because there's still Season 2 to binge-watch literally after writing ... this review.

I might as well review the succeeding installments if I'm hoping for improvement. Sure enough, Seitokai Yakuindomo's OVA continues the double entendre-filled days of the Ousai Student Council.

The OVA directly adapts several chapters in the 4-koma, and possibly could have added some anime-original scenes I couldn't point out anymore because in contrast to last time, the segments are more focused on the gags of the Student Council themselves and not some random unimportant illusionary characters. In a surprising turn of events however, I think that the quality of the jokes' executions were a big leap compared to the first season. Everything was delivered at a ... faster pace and gives enough leeway to set up for the next punchline.

Since this OVA also covers the times the manga's episodic nature becomes more lengthy in duration, everything was better because it does not become confusing as much as the first series. Story arcs were also introduced and provided much of the character relationship development I felt was lacking in SYD. Not to say that it is significant whatsoever, as this is still a comedy, but the Tsuda-Shino moments seem to have increased, making everything have much more motive in plot progression. The sex jokes may be smart, but their effect won't last for long.

One of the reasons why everything felt more funny was the voice actors, who seem to have handled their characters with more conviction than the original. Particular praise for Satomi Arai for her improved iteration of Hata, who was already a funny character but her effort in making the resident paparazzi more expressive than her 4-koma counterpart made it better. The music was more or less the same, but it was never that important to begin with.

The inclusion of a new character, Uomi (who, later on gets a much more significant role so keep an eye out for her) was very welcome to the cast. Not that I'm being biased because she's voiced by Chiwa Saito or anything, but her appearance adds some new chemistry (and friction! Finally!) to the mostly-lewd characters.

SYD's first OVA spans eight episodes, so it might as well be a new season. It obviously learned well from its previous mistakes, and did a better job of adapting the manga while being a solid comedy show all in all, making me even more stoked to continue with the show's second season.

I love Seitokai Yakuindomo, it is one of my favourite animes ever, however there is something about this anime that makes me sad for not understanding Japanese, the innuendos. There are several puns in this show that if you don't know Japanese they will go by unnoticed, sometimes translator will spend sometime explaining what the joke was about (but doesn't explaining the joke make it less funny? Well, if you don't even know the language, how would you understand the pun in the first place?), but there are other times those jokes aren't explained, which is a shame. Nevertheless, this is a very funny anime, ... but I must say it is a niche Comedy, the blue humour doesn't appeal to everyone, however if you enjoy those things, you will love this anime, I will definitely read the manga afterwards because I am sure there the translator will explain those jokes the anime translator missed.
