Boring start, unrealistic and badly directed combat scene in the very beginning in a generic ninja nu-style. Boring archetypes from the start: a frown dad, an eager son and a clingy sister. It's enough to watch the opening to know what it is about: no deep plot, no twists, no interesting characters, banal motivations and enemies. I bet there will be more uninspiring combat scenes just like in a beginning but in the middle and in the end of a season.

Vikings have gotten their fare share of screen time in western media, an and endless number of video games, fairytales, movies, books, TV shows and so on have been devoted to them, of varying quality.

What can possibly be done with Vikings now that's different or refreshing?

Well, what if we let the Japanese adapt Vikings? Seem intriguing.
Vinland Saga is sweet and fun. It has a kind of sweet cozy wholesomeness you can't get away with in live action or video games that only works in the animated medium.

At times, tonally, it feels less like History Channel's live action Vikings series and more like the Disney animated film Frozen, and that's what's so sweet about it. It's still serious, violent and mature, it just does that in a cozy & sweet rose-tinted way.

It's a wholesome, sappy, sentimental feel-good show about murderous pirates, slavers and rapists, which you think can't really be done, but apparently it can.

On top of being a huge badass warrior and stoic dad, sacrificing a luxury's worth of sheep for a man on his deathbed really spoke volumes about Thors' character.

1000's Iceland isn't a setting you see every day. Looking forward to where this goes if it already starts out this strong.
