I don't rate on "critical basis". "Personal Enjoyment" would be the biggest factor.

10 - Masterpiece anime I'll never forget about.
9 - My personal favorites / Shows that I love / Re-watch material
8 - Must-watch anime / Would recommend to anyone / Good entry level anime.
7 - Good anime / Guilty pleasures / Not-for-everyone shows / Will try related work.
6 - Unimpressed / Nearly dropped.
5 - Not for me / Should've dropped.
4 to 1 - How much it hurt to waste my time watching these shows.

I have many dropped shows. Main reason being that I wasn't part of the target audience and would have scored between 1 and 5 if completed. This is also why I rarely score shows lower than a 6. I drop them before that.

Simple policy: Don't like, don't watch, don't rate.

Other reasons may be that I read the manga / played the VN / watched part of it on TV during my childhood.

Anime Background:

  • Age 4-7: Maken Liner, Akira, Captain Tsubasa, Saint Seiya. Early 90's.
  • Age 8-11: Saint Seiya, Sailor Moon, Sakura Card Captor, Speed Racer, G-Force (Gatchaman).
  • Age 12-15: Slayers, Evangelion, Dragon Ball Z and pretty much everything aired by Locomotion (Wikipedia Link).
  • Age 16-18: Broadband Internet Stage: Romance anime on Crunchyroll: Kanon06, Air, Haruhi; also new-gen shonen: Naruto, Bleach; and loads of Manga and some popular VN (F/SN).
  • Age 19-Today: Consumed massive amounts of anime/manga/VNs. Following currently airing shows.

Hey there. I am the author of that GJ-Bu article. We were just talking on /r/anime.

I don't think we have very similar tastes when it comes to anime, but I see that you're quite the fan of visual novels. Browsing through your VNDB, I noticed you have given Umineko a 10, but you have not rated Chiru. Have you played it?

I am asking because I consider Umineko (including Chiru) to be the greatest piece of story ever written by mankind. Not exaggerating.

Yeah, 7th Expansion always produces... unique art that made me think twice to play it. Almost all of their works has been animated by DEEN except Higanbana no Saku Yoru ni. So, except DEEN adaptation is overwhelmingly worse than original source, I think I'd better satisfy myself with DEEN adaptation. I know I haven't played any of their works to make a comparison, but the adaptation of Higurashi and Umineko was pretty good for me, maybe not great, but good nonetheless.

Btw, you gave a score of 7 for G-Senjou no Maou. May I ask why? I thought the story is, in a sense, the most compelling among other VNs, especially Haru Route.
