I'm gonna actually shut the fuck up now and let you finish these shows now before I throw more shit at the wall.
Another short OVA that I forgot to mention is "Alien Nine", a really bizarre 4 episode OVA released in the early 2000s by JC Staff. It's honestly kind of hard for me to describe, you really just have to watch it for yourself. The last episode kind of reminded me of End of Evangelion with some of its visuals and it's really cool.
If you like weird anime, then you've absolutely got to check out Boogiepop Phantom. It's very similar to Serial Experiments Lain in terms of atmosphere and presentation. I saw you rated Lain a 9, so I'm more than sure that you'll end up loving Boogiepop as well. I wouldn't say it's quite as good as Lain, but then again, it's Lain we're talking about. It's hard for a lot of shows to compare.
