Reading "The New Gate" was like watching a super good AMV or compilation video...
You get all the buzz out of all the best bits of all your favorite series all crammed together!
There is HEAVY influence from both SAO & Overlord, as well as I suspect some pretty heavy influence from Log Horizon (A personal long-time favorite) and the blend that "The New Gate" manages to achieve is just wonderful. On top of all this...The character designs are (ahem) *Top Quality* hue hue...
Honestly i'm one of those people who thoroughly enjoy's Isekai but having watched a LOT of trash isekai animes (smartphone, cheat magician, arifuerta etc) I can hand-on-heart say that this one does it BETTER.
I'm a big fan of anti-hero/villain tales so for me the Overlord series is way up there, but for those of you wanting something more "loveable" and lighthearted, but still having a wonderful combination of cool fights and powerful characters, lovable love interests and a fun, relaxed but not bland MC...
The New Gate is the one for you!

This is one of those shows where the individual parts when looked at separately do not seem to add together to be anything special. but you put all the little pieces together you somehow end up with something super fun, easy-to-watch, oddly wholesome and very enjoyable. And with that I give you Dr. Stone.
First of all let's clear the air. This is not some mind-bending crazy intelligent show. It is not trying to be. It's premise is essentially "mad-scientist restarts civilization after an odd-looking apocalypse with his oddly strong buddy.'

be taken with a pinch of salt, the whole "counting every second for 3700 years" is hilarious but, good people reading this, please remember... you're watching a shounen.
For comparison, I don't see reviewers complaining about how in Kimetsu no Yaiba or Demon Slayer, which is airing along side Dr. Stone, he is able to like, cleave a 10 foot boulder in two with a katana after 2 years of training. Like WTF.
But obviously... NO ONE CARES cause it's a show about a kid running around killing demons, much in the same vein this is a show about a genius kid who gets dumped in the stone age of mankind and decides to go about trying to do sciencey stuff cause he loves science and wants to make more of it. It's simple and it has just as much right to a certain degree of suspension of disbelief as any other anime or show out there.
Now as far as the show itself, clearly we are only 6 episodes in so commenting on story is a bit hard, particularly because this show has focused a lot of it's time both on Senku's (mad scientist) thoughts as well as his interactions with His meat-head best friend. It has had almost 2 full episodes of sporadic filler which I have seen a lot of complaints about... HOWEVER, I think the timing and pacing of them has been excellent.
I will ALWAYS choose a small cast of believable personalities getting good character development then a blind rush into a story line where i don't give a crap about what happens because the characters are bland and 2 dimensional. I LIKE these characters... hell I like the VILLAIN!!
And for that I'm already willing to applaud Dr. Stone
Music seems on point most of the time, quite enjoy both the OP and ED and i've also been a big fan of both the scenic shots and the character designs.
So yea! Give it a try! If you want to wait till more has been released that's perfectly fine but between Dr. Stone and Demon Slayer i've been eagerly looking forward to my Friday afternoons!

Yakusoku no Neverland is.... A Triumph.
Let me quickly get a few things out of the way before continuing this review.
1. I have read a decent amount of the manga. More than's been covered by the anime anyway.
2. I tend to write reviews for animes when the "top reviews" does the anime a serious injustice in my not so humble opinion.
3. You should read the manga.
Now onto Yakusoku no Neverland, the anime, because surprise surprise other reviewers, this is an adaptation and nothing more.
So, after all that, should you watch this anime? Yes. Now let me start telling you why.
The anime is extremely well-knit.

It's entire focus is around being a clever game of "hide-and-seek" and mostly an intellectual one, where a group of kids discover their "orphanage" has an extremely dark secret and decide to try to escape. To do this they must out-wit their "mama". The way the story goes about telling the events of the kids learning and planning their escape, attempting to deal with new obstacles and discovering even darker secrets is masterful.
Primarily the anime shows off the physical, mental, and emotional struggles of the three main characters who are both protagonists and instigators of this escape plan. This is where the whole focus of the anime is and it holds it's "puzzle pieces" together quite convincingly. The kids are extremely intelligent but otherwise not super-human. Nor does "plot armor" seem to be leaping out of the woodwork.
The 3 characters themselves are also absolutely wonderful to watch and very dynamic. While each being geniuses in their own right they all display it very differently. Ray is the trickster, the manipulator and cunning one. Norman is the strategist, brains and wits. Emma is the charismatic, honest and hyper-insightful one whose genius is in her empathy and ability to read people. All the side characters who get any real screen time are also wonderful. Phil is an adorable little bundle, Krone is appropriately terrifying in her almost manic drive to succeed and Isabella.... oh boy Isabella. One of the most wonderfully crafted antagonists in a 12 episode show i think i've ever seen.
Isabella, and the concluding episode is also one of the most amazing displays of what GOOD, character-driven plot should look like.
To try not to spoil to much, but still perk your curiosity, when was the last time you saw a 2 minute FLASHBACK... And it completely changed your entire view on the events of an entire anime?
Anything spring to mind? If it did I bet you remember it because it left such an impact... so then... there's your answer.
I guess to round this review off I should say a few negatives but honestly these are the sort of points i tend to dismiss as "so obvious they shouldn't even be taken into account when weighing up enjoyment of X"
First of all, IT ISNT THE MANGA. Big news to some people but basically, as with all adaptations some things must be cut for the sake of having set time-limits. The manga is HEAVY on internal thoughts and dialogue and the anime cuts a decent chunk of this out. is this a bad thing, well, to some perhaps. I PERSONALLY was blown away by how intensely loyal the anime remained to the manga, scenes and expressions being basically copy-pasted in many instances. So personally I'd want to include this as a praise for the anime but it's true that it does lose some bits of information.
And because i'm getting bored and tired and I hate nit-picking shit I enjoyed i'm just gonna leave it as 1 KINDA NOT REALLY negative.
This anime is a good adaptation of an AMAZING story with fun characters. It deserves it's praise. I'm not sure how it will turn out after this as i didn't read much further in the manga and worry that the author is stretching the story out beyond what it should be aiming to accomplish. But what has been produced is Top-Shelf Quality. (Screw the bad reviews!)

Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari left me both pleasantly surprised, confused and frustrated all in one go upon finishing it, and for quite a few different reasons which I'll attempt to list below and bring together into something of a review for this, if nothing else, intriguing anime.
(Side note, i'm going to heavily AVOID spoilers as i sincerely think this is an anime worth watching so i won't be addressing any particulars about the show but talking generally. Also I ramble/rant like hell so good luck.)
Firstly I want to say that Shield Hero well deserves it's quick rise to fame. It's first few episodes

where absolutely awesome in how it set up the rest of the story. The rejected, bitter angry MC, the quest for both vengeance and justice, redemption and blood... really impressive set up to the story. However, as with many extremely ambitious shows finding the appropriate pacing is extremely challenging, especially when the story and the setting essentially demands characters to have their personality change, and their goals to change. This is extremely hard to pull off and I will be the first to admit that the "transition" period in the middle of the anime was certainly rocky in it's pacing.
However while it did somewhat detract from my overall enjoyment of the show by the time I ended it I was actually quite amazed by how well the storyline stays coherent, progresses AND leads to honest-to-god character development.
This brings me on to one of my main points. Characters. Overall...?
A Grade.
9/10.
I'm very pleased and here's why.
Rapthalia + Naoufumi's relationship. Full stop.
Honestly the rest of the cast was pretty good, and fulfilled their roles wonderfully. The princess was actually useful and had princess-levels of influence. The other 'heroes' where both wonderfully hate-able and yet surprisingly relatable. (aside from the "Dual Spear" hero...)
However Naoufumi and Raphtalia's interactions were absolutely on point. Watching his personal and moral struggles, his internal battles and how time and time again he strives to be an actual hero, saving lives and sacrificing his own, lead to Raphtalia maturing, and it shows (physically and mentally :P .) Likewise Raphtalia's own pain and vulnerability inspire and spur Naoufumi into even more heroic acts and his reliance on her love and devotion to over come his worst inner demons was sooooooo nice to watch. Some people may be frustrated by the "lack of romance" but I don't think it would have added much in particular to what the writers already managed to develop and the final episode just made me smile at how nicely and honestly they developed/concluded their relationship.
Is this a perfect anime? Hell no. There was so really dumbass fights and ass-pull abilities. Were all the characters amazingly developed? No. Was the pacing steady and intriguing with little to no filler? Not really. HOWEVER
Does it have an actually interesting world setting? Yes. Was the MC both interesting, develop, AND was not a wimp? YES YES YES YES YES. Was the love-interest believable and develop? YES! Did the story progress well and both answer questions, resolve issues, AND reveal even more plot? YES!
As far as existing Isekai anime go, I rate this up there as one of the better ones. It holds it's own among Log Horizon, Fantasy of Ash, and Reincarnated as a Slime.
As a matter of fact, I'd say Reincarnated as a Slime is a decent one to compare with, a standard, boring, repetitive, "hero transported to another world and given crazy powers" anime that has no right to be good yet somehow competently steps into the mold of Isekai and says, "No, no, no Mr. Cellphone-kun... here's how you make a REAL Isekai!"

Time to add my voice to the choir of high-praise.
But lets not get ahead of ourselves, if you're on the fence about Dororo or simply do not know much about it then i should preface by saying that this show is emotional. It is dark and brooding at times, and it does it WELL.
I've seen a decent number of "intense" animes and half the time it's hard for the characters emotions to be taken seriously as the situations causing them feel so contrived and "well it had to happen for the plot", which obviously takes away from some of our capacity to engage
...
our emotions and empathize with what were seeing.
Having just completed episode 6 of Dororo I can say that so far it has avoided this pitfall incredibly well!
The show is episodic to a degree, but each episode is clearly pushing a very obvious goal with a specific time-limit. It's reminiscent of the classic "monster of the week" style, but done RIGHT. Done with the knowledge that after each confrontation (at the end of 18 minutes of jaw-droppingly good character development i should add) the MC's goal is progressed that one step closer, and a new twist is created, and new side of the characters, that you quickly grow to love, is now there to be experienced. I promise you it's a good ride, even if you may sob a dozen or so times by the time this anime finishes.
This anime is top-shelf ladies and gentlemen. If you're looking for a show that is serious, without being cringe, and has stellar characters, you've come to the right place.

Really sad to see this sequel and the first Godzilla film getting such hate. For anyone put off by the large number of negative reviews it's just worth keeping in mind expectations.
Are Godzilla films supposed to be 'good'? No. They all about a ridiculous monster blowing things up and a ridiculous plot that really shouldn't work but it does and it's bloody brilliant. it's why they became so famous. why Godzilla became so iconic.
This newest incarnation of the Godzilla films do not have mind-blowing plots, super detailed characters with fascinating developments who are memorable.
It has brilliant visuals, awesome soundtracks and a REALLY badass

monster blowing s*** up. What's not to love??? Why criticise something for being bad when it's not supposed to be (sarcastic quotes) 'good'? I think these films are extremely well done in their relative simplicity. i personally really enjoy the world building, even if there is a lot of 'pointless dialogue' as some reviews have accused it, i don't feel thats fair. The world setting is quite interesting. I love watching the imagination unfold. Seeing their minds-eye of a world 20,000 years after a Godzilla apocalypse! It's sweet!
honestly people manage youre expectations a bit and just appreciate what were given!! How many times do we viewers accuse animes and stories of having 'no world-building'??? and then when a show takes the time to include it... We complain!
TL DR: This show is a Godzilla film. Big Monster vs Crazy Human Plot. It's awesome! visually awesome, it has super cool explosions and a pretty sweet soundtrack to boot. sit back and enjoy it even if it's not some mind-blowing plot!!

So I've kept up with Gancrest Senki on a weekly basis as it's been released. And from what I've seen many of the reviews are of the first 2-5 episodes or so. And simply put, these reviews are not fair.
The story has a VERY odd start. Which seems to be the cause of many of the poor reviews. Yes the pacing is weird, and characters seem a little, everywhere... sometimes. But I've honestly been super interested in how the story has developed. There is a large cast so far and it has been an odd mix of supernatural (vampires, were-wolves and chaos demons), military, and
...
political. Some episodes are devoted almost entirely to the interactions of a few political leaders and the maneuvering, betrayals and diplomacy that occurs, while others are focused around the military conquest. And some pretty bad-ass fight scenes!
The MC should not truly be considered MC's at this point, as the plot is driven by the much larger political world that Gancrest Senki is set in, and I've personally been really drawn into seeing how this world develops!
Another thing that this show does which i'm personally really liking is it is quite creative. Characters really begin to find their pacing and once the backstory for them is set their actions begin to make a lot of sense, even if the overall 'plot' is still being discovered.
I really would hate to see this show suffocate and die before it can even begin. Sure it may absolutely flop, that's very much within the realms of possibility. BUT there is also a chance that this could be a really incredible show. Some of the BEST animes EVER MADE have really hard to watch starts that are confusing and slow. Think FMA, Steins Gate, hell even Gintama is hard for a lot of people to get into.
TLDR:
IF YOU'RE UNSURE ABOUT THIS ANIME, WAIT TILL ITS FULLY RELEASED AND THEN BINGE WATCH IT.

Simply put Kuromukuro simply tells a story, and it's really fun, surprisingly interesting... and for the first time in a long time I spent the last 2 episodes of an anime guessing at it's ending and being COMPLETELY wrong. Which was incredibly refreshing.
The characters are for the most part very enjoyable. They are not particularly three-dimensional or unique, but they are fun, and their actions almost always make sense with the plot, which is so incredibly satisfying (AND RARE!!). They all act in the way that their simply-constructed characters would act in each given scenario!
The plot develops at an extremely nice pace with

'the reveals' coming it at very well timed points and extra characters being introduced precisely when needed for the plot to continue developing.
Essentially Kuromukuro's strongest point is how meticulously the plot itself is constructed. It's not the most original by any means, and it isn't a perfect plot. There are a few (incredibly minor) logic-leaps about the aliens/demons that you could point out as 'logical flaws'... but even the minor ones mostly get at least some form of brief explanation!!!
This anime was just a good story with fun characters told in both an interesting and entertaining way... Honestly what else can people ask from ANY book, film or other form of media/entertainment?!? Not every show is a mind-blowing masterpiece. But this anime takes it's straightforwardness and does it really REALLY well! And it should receive a lot of praise for that!

Houseki no Kuni:
If I had to give a one word review.... "Unique"
And I mean this as one of the strongest compliments i can give any form of creative expression. True creativity is extrodinarily rare boarding on non-existent. Some people I accredit uniqueness to being H.P.Lovecraft, and J.R.R Tolkien.
This show gives a truly special feeling. I can't think of any show that approaches the telling of it's own "story" in quite the same way or has a setting or casts of characters that are quite like this shows.
Story: Story is probably the trickiest one of the aspects of this show to rate as it

almost feels like it doesn't have one. What is there is simply the... observation, of the main character and the people she interacts with. In one sense very little changes and it is very artistically shown to be self-aware in this regard. But in another sense everything changes as you learn and grow with the MC. Incredibly well knit together overall.
Art: Just really bloody gorgeous to watch. Nothing else to say. Oh and if you 'just hate any CGI and it ruins anime' get off your bloody high horse and appreciate beauty in more forms than the one that you've gotten used to, you boring F***.
Sound: I loved the sound. OST isn't exactly what I'd put on a playlist but it FIT. just nailed many of the scenes, whether humorous or sad, it was the icing on the cake of an already beautiful show.
Character: There was such a large cast of characters that criticizing it for any lack of character development in some of them would be ridiculous and require a 50 episode series during which time you'd forget about half of them anyway. In fact I was sincerely impressed with how much I enjoyed each and every character as they appeared and often reappeared. Their interactions felt naturally timed as their appearances always made sense in the context of the story. and they each had a quirk which not only made them unique (and fit in with the world setting) but also lovable. MC's character development was sudden, drastic, and completely appropriate. Which are three things that almost never go together in a sentence.
Enjoyment: Simply put. I LOVED this show. It didn't make me obsessively binge. It didn't make me bored. It was just like "HELLO ANIME BIATCHES! IM HERE. IM HERE, AND IM UNIQUE! TAKE ME OR LEAVE ME!" And boy oh boy did people take it. I know i'm just a voice in the choir singing its praises to the heavens!

First and foremost PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do NOT compare this anime to SOA, Log Horizon, or ANY other 'different world' genre. It premise is HUGELY different and I cant help but feel the creators would hate having these parallels drawn as I think they're goal was totally different! This barely (probably technically doesn't) even fit into the fantasy category! This anime's main Genre's should be Slice-of-life, Action, comedy!!!! It's just a Slice-of-Life of a pro gamer!
The reason for this is it follows the main character, the worlds best professional player of a World wide MMORPG called Glory. who, in the first episode is

strong-armed into retiring. The rest of the anime follows his life at an internet cafe where he earns his keep by helping around the cafe and in his numerous spare hours he creates a new character and rejoins the world of Glory where he slowly rebuilds his reputation (secretly) and gathers a group of old allies, new friends, and skilled players to him who all play together regularly.
THATS BASICALLY IT. It's simple and straight forward, amusing and has TONS of simply amazing combat scenes to watch. No offense to other reviewers, but standard life is a series of choices that people make which rub against other people. This show portrays that extremely well, the 'plot' and 'character progression' is just certain people with certain characteristics interacting and making choices. They're not 'Oh no how do we save the world' choices.' They're everyday choices made by generally normal people, if often exaggerated to a degree for comedic value. I adore the ending of the show where the MC finally gets his idea that's been budding since like the 3rd episode! (Won't spoil) It's just a simple, obvious concept, yet it takes him a long time to see whats right in front of him, and honestly his smile when he puts 2 and 2 together actually made my heart warm. (For those who have finished the show, you should know what I mean!)
