The reason for this is it follows the main character, the worlds best professional player of a World wide MMORPG called Glory. who, in the first episode is strong-armed into retiring. The rest of the anime follows his life at an internet cafe where he earns his keep by helping around the cafe and in his numerous spare hours he creates a new character and rejoins the world of Glory where he slowly rebuilds his reputation (secretly) and gathers a group of old allies, new friends, and skilled players to him who all play together regularly.
THATS BASICALLY IT. It's simple and straight forward, amusing and has TONS of simply amazing combat scenes to watch. No offense to other reviewers, but standard life is a series of choices that people make which rub against other people. This show portrays that extremely well, the 'plot' and 'character progression' is just certain people with certain characteristics interacting and making choices. They're not 'Oh no how do we save the world' choices.' They're everyday choices made by generally normal people, if often exaggerated to a degree for comedic value. I adore the ending of the show where the MC finally gets his idea that's been budding since like the 3rd episode! (Won't spoil) It's just a simple, obvious concept, yet it takes him a long time to see whats right in front of him, and honestly his smile when he puts 2 and 2 together actually made my heart warm. (For those who have finished the show, you should know what I mean!)
