I prefer not to believe sensei because it makes the story less enjoyable, not only for morale reasons, I could get over that if their story was really good, but because it turns all the story into another easy Josei. It annoys me that they have to put romance everywhere. If I'm watching it keeping in mind that Yakumo is the father, the story get boring and character less likable so... It's sure Shinnosuke is cute but I won't choose that path.

Precisely. Even if one chooses to accept that Yakumo is the father, there should still be a shadow of doubt; I don't get how they think there is absolute confirmation. That the omake gave confirmation is ridiculous. There aren't just 2 men in that universe. lol The process of eliminating the Oyabun does not confirm that Yakumo is then the father. For all we know, it could be someone we never saw; adult Konatsu had a one night stand with a stranger lol and did not want the man to know, much less have him involved in the kid's life. That would be hilarious. Young girls have crushes all the time; it isn't hard to crush on Yakumo ;) He was really cool in that omake, the way he not only shrugged off her threats of murdering him in his sleep, he even gave her tips. LOL Would love to have seen that animated.

Like you, the only thing that gave me pause in the anime, is the "are you mad...?" line, but that could refer to a number of things. At that point, Konatsu didn't turn out great, did she? She was still bitter, had a child out of wedlock, had to give up her dreams of rakugo (with his influence, he could have helped her), etc, etc, all of which any caring guardian would feel responsible for.

Konatsu was not in the least flustered when asked out of the blue, if Yakumo was the father of her child. They could have shown some small signs (hidden to Higuchi) of her being unnerved even as she deftly dealt with it. Whether or not Yakumo was the father, is definitely left to us.

No problem! Glad to hear you appreciated them, definitely makes me glad for sharing/writing one of them. I definitely feel Rakugo left things ambiguous enough that either interpretation is valid, which I'm so incredibly thankful for because if that outright confirmed Yakumo as the father it woud've really left a bitter taste in my mouth from an otherwise flawless series.

Me neither, I don't buy it, and I'm doing great efforts to understand what was going on in the head of the author and apart having a kid looking like Shin and Bon and please fans, I don't see anything else. The scene where they are both sitting on the armchair gets definitely weird if we take into consideration that they slept together. She thanked him for raising her and so on.... so to me they were saying they were family after all.

It's sad that we needed an extra to explain a bit what happened in the manga and the anime, so I guess it's not just us who didn't get it and the mangaka didn't do a go job with it. Even the fact of the Yakuza being the father, or that she was in love with him, was weird to me because when Yotaro's boss came, she looked down on him and when he told her to shut up she got started, so I thought she was not used to that kind of people, even more when she discovered Yotaro's tatoo. But in the extra, they told us she was fascinated with the yakuza and want to join a gang.... well I didn't buy that either.

Did he sleep with her because she reminded him of Miyokichi or to let her figure out her real feelings? Hey I don't know.
