Glad someone agrees with the way I think a series should end, anytime I mention that to certain friends of mine they're like, "Dude, you just can't end something like that." And I always think to myself, yes you can because in the real world that's what happens a lot of the time, the good guy dies or loses and the bad guy wins. Anyway, if you agree with my 'better endings' you've definately gone up about twelve notches in my book. (Don't really know what notch that makes you since I don't really keep track, but any increase is a good thing, right?)
Yeah, it doesn't have a 'bad' ending, but it does leave the fate of one character entirely in your hands. It's pretty intense too but at the same time rather bittersweet and even comical at times, some didn't like that much a difference in extremes.
Yeah, I'm also a big fan of the everyone dies, or bittersweet endings. My personal favorites are when the hero sacrifices himself to save someone else and doesn't survive. (Nothing pisses me off more than a character sacrificing himself and then being brought back to life.) Definately the best way to end any story in my opinion.
I see that you haven't watched Elfen Lied. You should check it out. If you like shows with quite a bit of substance and really good character development/relation. Check it out. A lot of people don't like it but I have to say that it blew me away. If nothing else, it has a lot of blood. Five minutes and at least 15 people have been torn apart.
Ah, that does explain it. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who still buys anime on DVD nowadays it seems as though everyone else is downloading it.
Anyway, looks like you've got most of the classics. Just look at the Club Relations list for some more if you want them.
And no problem, you met the quota relatively easily.
Berserk is a series I want to finish. The problem with accomplishing that is how long and expensive the series is. It's worth it - it ain't #1 on MAL for nothing - but I don't really have the money to invest in such a lengthy series.
As for recommendations (1c, 2m =P), I recently typed up reviews for the last two manga series I finished - Bitter Virgin and Chrono Crusade. Both are top draw series - I gave both 9/10. Bitter Virgin would be a good manga to read online (you can't buy it outside of Japan) since it's only 32 chapters long. Have a look at my reviews of 'em and see if my descriptions match up to your taste.
I haven't really read a lot of manga myself since I don't like reading scans on my monitor. I've been buying a lot lately (box sets + eBay), so I'm on the road to becoming a manga reader.
The DBZ box sets will probably be purchased by me, too. I'm not sure if I'll get the first box set as I already have the first 5 volumes of DB...
I'm afraid it wasn't quite as dramatic as you made it sound: I was swinging my set with a little force in order to test if the inner piece of cardboard stood firm, forgetting I had a huge white fan near me, and I swung one of the corners directly into part of the fan. It resulted in a minor (but annoying) dent on the corner. ;____;
So, anyway, do you have much in the way of manga? My box sets aside, I have around 90-100 volumes. It's a decent collection but it's going to be hard to finish as many incomplete series as I have on the cheap.
If not for me losing motivation after hours of trying to get what I posted right and it already having reached endless proportions, I would've added more. =P I wasn't really able to get into talking about the characters or manga/anime differences...
I like typing reviews - I've started posting a fair few on MAL. I also did a slightly shorter review of the Naruto manga box set, which also just so happens to be on AUKN. That thread had more in the way of posts, mainly because more than a few people managed to finish it.
Anyway, back to the DN set. Unless you receive a damaged set, I'm sure you'll be very pleased with it. Just remember not to swing it by huge white fans like an idiot; I learnt that lesson the hard way. :)

Finally, Happy Birthday.

How did you find it; do you post on AUKN or did you click on a link on HUKD?
