Your prelim review on Magia Record was pretty much on point. The show is not by any means bad, but it just lacks consistent tonal awareness and is quite all over the place in terms of worldbuilding and character exploration, the latter of which doesn't seem to bring enough to the table (not counting the OG cast showing up occasionally). Sure, this show may be trying to be more focused on the characters than the OG had, but the latter had a far better script and the cast had more context for us to actually care about it (even Madoka, whose character archetype I would usually brush off as uninteresting, had better characterization than this new entire Magia Record cast combined).
But yea, I do hope it gets better if they can fix the odd pacing.
