You have a lot of numbers in your name.

Haha, yeah I did get bored of anime for a while, but then I started watching Xam'd and it's awesome! :D

Actually, I have lots of friends who are interested in anime, and lots who hate it. But really, I love American tv shows. Like Criminal Minds!

My children will be raised on a steady diet of I Love Lucy, Rose of Versailles, and whatever else I can think of.

Assuming I have kids.

Which I hope I don't.

Seto no Hanayome exists simply for the Momoi Halko character song for me.

Airplane! is a movie, and it's a crime that you haven't been raised on it--my dad made sure I watched it when I was a wee lad. It's the classic (and actually funny) example of the Zucker brothers' formula: take something patently ludicrous, and play it deadpan straight. See also: The Naked Gun, Hot Shots!, and Top Secret!. Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrel is actually a book, but it was optioned for a movie that comes out next year I think, but no matter how good the movie will be, half the fun of the book is the four-page footnotes and the writing style in general.

Punches in the face are liberally distributed by me in textual and sometimes verbal form, but never in physical form. I am 6'5" and 220 lbs., but I still have trouble hurting flies. I have no qualms about smashing spiders under my contemptuous heel, though, so if you're an arachnid, watch out, 'cause I've got your number and it's about to come up.

My sense of humor spans things like Airplane! (which is still one of my favorite movies ever, I don't care how far the Zucker brothers have fallen since the 80s), passes by Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrel (which is the funniest book I've ever read, never mind that it wasn't really a comedy at all, just extremely cleverly written), and eventually makes it to New Yorker cartoons (which are some of the most hilarious things ever, and I can defend myself by saying that Charles Addams drew for the New Yorker so there!).

I liked Excel Saga when I watched it six years ago, but since then hyperactive screaming-a-lot anime comedies in its vein have gotten on my nerves. Anime comedy, actually, seems to be the most hit-or-miss for me. Anime billed solely as comedies rarely sit well with me, whereas the comic relief of far more dramatic series can cause me no end of amusement. That said, Potemayo and Minami-ke are still some of the best recent anime comedies.

Also all the people I see around liking South Park I generally want to punch in the face.

SO THERE. LIKE SOUTH PARK, GET PUNCHED IN THE FACE.

I've always associated South Park with the terminally stupid more than I have with intelligent people, so that's kind of stuck with me, even though I know of its value as cultural commentary. My sense of humor is extremely weird, though--I almost never like the comedies everyone else around me does. I don't even like Excel Saga! You can call for my crucifixion at any time now!

you have FIOS?? So jealous...

I did indeed see his comment, I disagree (I think it's brilliant satire some of the time), but then the two of us don't always agree. I still got nuthin but love.

As for your review: I was mostly aware of those problems, except the annoying background music was... you know, meant to annoy, and thus distract from how horrible everything else was T_T

Credit where it's due, I did pull the intro audio from the vid you linked, which is one of my A-number-1 favorite chiyo's dad moments, down to the "pull out your tongue" bit. OH MAI GAHH.

Managing time? I am probably the worst person to ask. I still haven't quite gotten that "adult" thing, as evidenced by the fact that I watch a lot of cartoons -_-;

I work from home, so I tend to watch anime at lunch and directly after work when most people are commuting, and sometimes at night when I'm working after "normal" hours. Sometimes I do get weekends when the wife is out doing things that don't involve me. If it weren't for working from home, I dunno what I'd do since I tend to work long hours.

I use Time Warner Cable because that's all there is around here. Most HDTV plus decent-speed internet plans at any provider are around 100-120 bucks a month I've found. It's been the same in like 3 cities where I've lived. It's a racket.

LETS FIGHTING LOVE YOUNG JEEZY

blissmo | 08-03-08, 2:16 AM
LOLOL! TRIPLE OUR AGE?! That IS awfully scary, or maybe we're growing up into the anime world too soon! NOOOOOO

And I sometimes think anime is strange or not for me, so I watch Criminal Minds instead

OGT | 07-24-08, 9:52 PM
Domo arigatou, señor roboto.

I have no idea what song it was and I refuse to click that link because I find South Park devoid of actual humor, replacing it instead with crudity easily mistaken for humor. But that's neither here nor there.

I suck at translation, especially of songs--I listen to some and can understand enough of it to understand what the song's saying, but hell if I can actually put it in English. And that's just stuff like Melocure - 1st Priority and The ALFEE - BOY. I don't even want to think about trying to translate something like Sound Horizon lyrics. That has killed lesser men than me.

Totali | 07-24-08, 7:41 PM
Dayam I been busy DAWG. I might try to get on more soon....or I might not. I dunno. :)

OGT | 07-24-08, 4:19 PM
I still know enough Spanish to be able to fumble my way around it, French, and Italian, since the latter two are Romance languages like Spanish is. It's actually funny--I get the whole "interference" thing, where when trying to compose a sentence in one language, you put the word from another language you've learned in its place--when thinking of Spanish sentences, I'd say "iie" instead of "no" and then have to say "wait no that's not it", and when trying to remember the word "shigoto" (work), I kept trying to say "trabajo." The human mind is evil.

There actually weren't a lot of that kind of anime fan in my Japanese classes. There was just the one set of people, and they were pretty obnoxious. One of them tried to get the teacher (who is native Japanese and so so awesome--I talked to her about Rose of Versailles, that's how awesome she is) to translate some song in Japanese that was used on South Park and everyone in the class was like "oh god" and she listened to 15 seconds and yanked the earphones out of her ear and said "I AM NOT TRANSLATING THAT."

I had lots of fun, though; one day I wrote (in Japanese) "ore no uta, kike!" (which is Basara's legendary quote, "Listen to my song!" from Macross 7). When we learned about comparisons, I quoted Clannad at her (the legendary Fuko line "Right now, I like you more than sea cucumbers"). I don't think anyone else but me was amused by this, but that's fine by me.

You can keep your lunch money. A high schooler's puny lunch money won't satisfy the lunch money needs of a BIG KID like me. Punk.

otousan | 07-22-08, 6:05 PM
BATS I GET IT! I think. Do I?

And no, I'm not that old. I'm not even the oldest blogger around. I see from your comments that DS is older. Lawson is a year older, and Steven De Beste was my age before you were even born (mind blown?) Jury's still out on Kabitzin.

See... I'm ok. Right? I'm not the biggest dork in the room yet, am I? I'm still young enough to watch cartoons, right? Oh god.
