Both are about the overlap between the digital world and the real world where young children are highly involved. The main character is a curious young girl who is exploring this digital world and trying to figure out what secrets it holds.

In an alternate history, the government of Japan is acting unethically. One of the male leads is a disgraced detective who was demoted for trying to do the right thing and expose the corruption of the city. Throughout the show he chases terrorists to expose the government’s conspiracy and make things right. Am I talking about Zankyou no Terror or Psycho-Pass? Both is a good answer.

What happens when a dangerous "other" slowly starts to take over? How will we treat them? How will we treat each other in fear that they might be one of them? Even if this "other" is dangerous, does deserve to die, do the deserve the unjust treatment? Won't society destroy itself by fearing this "other" and senselessly treating them without a hint of empathy or compassion, despite whatever their sin might be? All of these questions are asked as the story slowly unfolds into an explosive finale

There’s an innate horror to a small town in the summer—suffocating in how isolated it is, where everyone know’s everyone’s business, and also in the overbearing heat, permeated by the constant cry of the cicadas behind every conversation you have. Something is wrong with this town, an epidemic where people keep dying and there’s nothing you can do about it

Both are grounded, emotional drama shows about the intimate, pseudo-romantic friendship between two adult women—total opposites (one bubbly and cheery, the other more mature and realistic) who end up living together and trying to make it in music

Kuragehime
add

Both shows follow the lives of adult NEET otaku, with one focused on the male side of that subculture and the other focused on the female. Both feature a protagonist who meet a love interest who causes their life to drastically change and, in the end, leads them to better themself. NHK is definitely darker than Kuragehime but they carry the same themes and messages

Both are absurdist gag comedies in which every character has a punny name and is based on some sort of anime stereotype, meant to parody them

Chainsaw Man
add

FLCL was a big inspiration behind Chainsaw Man, with Fujimoto even describing his hit manga as "evil FLCL" and I agree with this assessment. While they're very different in tone and story, they're both action-packed romps about deeper issues at their core. FLCL features a female character who is spunky and upbeat, as well as masking her true intentions when it comes to the male lead, and both of those features show up in CSM as well. FLCL and CSM also both follow the young male lead in his relationships with older women and examine the characters while doing so.
