VenomEX- The reason they gave her a Southern accent was to distinguish her accent from the others, as in the original anime she is from Osaka but doesn't fit the 'Osakan' stereotype. The problem is that the Osakan stereotype- loud, fond of jokes, exuberant- is not really the 'Southern' stereotype and hence doesn't really work when those jokes are translated over. Hence, I would say Osaka's voice in the dub really doesn't work too well. Perhaps a British accent would have been more fitting, or somthing else.

She was perfect as Lucy, as well with Misaki in Divergence Eve

I've only heard her as Osaka, and I don't understand at all why they made her have a southern accent. It's not that I didn't like her as a VA, it's just I hated the job she did with Osaka.
I always thought she was really cute and slow, and Southern accents don't make it sound that way.

she's great at playing relatively emotionless characters (and if that sounds like it's meant to be degrading - it's not).

I must say if you think she is a bad VA. Look at Elfen Lied and Utawarerumono. those animes are both really good. And she did so good voicing to completely different characters. So before you complain about one bad job look at the ones that are good. every VA has a bad role. All of my favorites have had bad roles. but they are still amazing.

I loved her voice as Lucy in Elfen Lied, but her voice as Osaka from Azumanga Daioh was just... off.
