This is actually my first review on MAL so go easy on me the manga I'm reviewing is houshin engi which is amazing and one of my favorite manga

Story: the story is about a man (he looks 15 but he's actually about 78) who is given the task of the houshin list which is to destroy all of the evil sennin (powerful humans with special powers) and trap them in the houshindai. He then goes around the world to assemble a army to defeat a sennin army trying to destroy the world. Seems pretty basic right? But there's a lot more going on in ... the shadows. The story is brilliant blending action and comedy all in one. There are many plots twists thst are very shocking as well.

Art: there's not much to say about it but it's absolutely amazing every panel is just so detailed and good to look at so yeah art amazing

Characters: some of my favorite manga characters come from this manga such as the main character taikoubou he is the perfect mix of seriousness snd comedy and is extremely intelligent. Even though he may look weak he is very powerful. The other characters are great too like the equally intelligent youzen or the war like robot nataku and many others all of the characters are important to the story even when they seem like they aren't. Some I could do without but most of the characters are incredible

Enjoyment: I enjoyed reading this manga very much from the intriguing story to the amazing characters to the unique art style and some of the best battles I've seen. the only thing that I could say that I didnt enjoy were the joke chapters and the mini chapters at the end of each volume but that doesn't bring down the experience.

Overall: overall I love this manga and definitely recommend that you read it. If you want a shounen battle manga with smart battles and very interesting story I say read houshin engi you'll definitely love it.

I had to get out of bed and grab my computer just to write this review, because this manga deserves much more love. To start with, it's got a really specific style that is both cinematic, intricate and yet kind of goofy. I've always found it very beautiful and intriguing. It's got a great story, I've never read or watched anything else that was based on Chinese mythology and historical China -- or nowhere near as closely. It makes for a very interesting read.
I haven't watched the anime as I was worried it would spoil the manga, which in and of itself is saying ... something: the manga slaps. I still have cold sweats when thinking of Dakki's Banquet. Ryu Fujisaki really knows how to do creepy, which is very hard to do. Please read it.

Hoshin Engi is just one of those manga, either you like it or you don't. Its a decent storyline, but sometimes it drags. This manga goes back and forth a lot, one volume is good the next one is bad. The art is decent, but like the story, its nothing special. The manga suffers from huge disapointments, when you think theres going to be a great fight or scene, its ruined by an funny bit. The characters are a bit bland, except for the main villain. As you read the series, the story begins to get somewhat predictable, the main reason I dropped the series. ... Overall Hoshin Engi is just your average manga, I would recomend giving it it a try at least
