Synopsis

Two winters have passed since the high-ranking demon Vivi left the demon realm and came to the human world. Although he is pleased by its peacefulness, the tranquility of the surface quickly bores him. However, his peaceful lifestyle is soon interrupted after he returns one evening to see a crying child outside of his front gate. He decides to take in the abandoned girl and names her "Hana" on a whim—keeping her for mere entertainment and as a way to kill time. Unconcerned about the future, he pledges to abandon her if she becomes troublesome.

Fourteen years later, Hana continues to mature and grow on Vivi. Perplexed by her unwavering loyalty, he remains unsure of his feelings toward her. Can he really continue to maintain his old, unconcerned facade?

I've read a lot of shoujo manga. Not gonna lie, I usually prefer reading mangas that have very good art. However, I can't deny that Hana to Akuma immediately jumped straight up to the top of my favorites.

Yea, the artwork takes some time to get used to. Took me a couple of chapters in - but it was the story that managed to suck me in. After reading a bunch of cheesy, stereotypical shoujo mangas, this was like a breath of fresh air.

The story was unique, bittersweet, and overall beautiful. I've only read it once but I'd definitely read it again as time passes.

Mixed Feelings
I usually like stories that have a strong focus on supernatural elements, but this manga felt very hollow and contrived to me. The female lead, Hana, was very annoying to me, and the love that developed between her and Vivi felt unnatural (and, to be honest, very creepy given that Hana is only 14, and acts in a very immature fashion). Many of the aspects of the plot that move their relationship along clearly happened for that sole purpose - it doesn't feel very fleshed out or natural. Most people who review or read reviews tend to be fans of whichever given piece of work, so I don't expect a lot of people to appreciate this. But regardless, these are my thoughts after fully reading Hana to Akuma.

The premise itself is simple. Demon comes to earth. Demon finds child. Demon raises child. Demon and child proceed to get together.
