In both, people seek Jigoku Shoujo/Fran for help for their problems. Both are pretty twisted sometimes. There is a cost to pay for both of them. Franken Fran is more gory than Jigoku Shoujo though. Also, I suggest watching the Jigoku Shoujo anime instead of the manga, it's 10x better.
