Both of these series are about the fundamentals of romance, the struggles seen in love, and the raw emotions between them. While they both have very different stories, MARS happening to be a bit more soap-opera in appearance, the two had a distinct line of similarity. They will both try to tug on your heart strings, if not attempting to make you remember past experiences in love. If anything, I recommend both series, mostly if you liked one or another.

Cheese in the Trap Season 1 addpermalink

Both manga/manhwa...graphic novels are about a couple who are the smartest in their grade. They get to know one another's flaws/darkness, lessen the distance between themselves and become a beautiful pair. In cheese in the trap they seem to view each other in a negative way and never got to know one another till a year after, but in karekano, the characters start off as friends and grow on one another. Both are great reads and highly recommended.

Eensy-Weensy Monster addpermalink

Both are nice shoujo series with a school setting, written and illustrated by Masami Tsuda.
In both the female protagonist is usually calm and collected, but can get quite lunatic (and funny) because of a guy. Nanoha’s eensy-weensy monster really reminds of Yukino’s true, crazy personality.
Karekano is much longer, has more drama, and great character development, while Eensy-Weensy is more light-hearted, but if you like Tsuda-sensei's works you should read both of them.

Horimiya addpermalink

The setup of both Kare Kano and Horimiya are similar: a boy and a girl who act one way at school, and lead very different (and far richer) lives outside of it. There are personality similarities between the mains as well: a somewhat high-strung female and a calmer, more emotionally collected male. Both series are humorous but display a level of emotional sensitivity when dealing with relationships.

Fruits Basket addpermalink

There are a few differences between Fruits Basket and Kare Kano but the overall romance themes are the same. Although Fruits Basket is different with magic and fantasy themes and Kare Kano is modern love, the romance between the two mangas is quite similar. However, the relationships in Fruits Basket take longer to develop then in Kare Kano.

Both series circles around this pure and serious highschool love that you really wished you had. The maincharacters have all some sort of mental problem that only the one they love can solve and we follow that process. It's cute and really touching.

Bot males characters are similar, both are better that the female in terms of study

But then the love and happiness start to flow wething the main characters.

If you like it Kare Kano and you wanna read another shoujo/romance manga, this is a "Good" chooise

They are both stories about two people (Yukino and Arima; Rin and Daikichi) growing up, learning about life and each other, and coming to love each other as well(Yukino and Arima as a couple; Rin and Daikichi as a family).

It's kind of like the "friend-snowballing-affect" where everyone meets each other along the way. They all become a group of friends and all seem to look for something they are good at. Main character and her lover work together to learn from their friends what they want in life, what makes them happy, and find their true selves. It has a similar feel in that at the end of the story, the friendships are really strong and they will always find time to be together and school was the thing that brought them all together.

Boku no Chikyuu wo Mamotte addpermalink

You may think...?! With P.S.M.E about reincarnation and K.K about relationship, it's a far cry from similar. But for some reason one gave me a strong impression of the other. 
Especially the male protagonist showed parallel qualities, for example the possessiveness for their female counterpart and the fight with their inner demons. Furthermore the appearance of a male sub-character wanting to help the male protagonist; Kazama Haruhiko in P.S.M.E and Hideaki Asaba in K.K is alike.
However the most profound likeness is the foreboding vibe the manga gives off. 
Both stories dig deep into the dark side of human nature that most of us can only fathom of and make us realize how fragile yet strong humans are. They are both great finds that are truly recommended.

Saa Koi ni Ochitamae is a yaoi manga but has at the beginning many similarities with Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou.

Like:
- The main protagonists in both mangas lives in a very funny family and are the eldest fron the siblings
- has to hide his real personality
- his/ her lovers have similar background and problems with families.

Kareshi has two people who save each other from themselves and is a funny cute story and then dives into deep problems and brings up heavy issues like monopolizing, rape, pregnancy and still stays a crazy light love story. Boyfriend is a bit different and goes more into sports, it also runs into heavy problems like death and leaving and still has me feeling like its a light love story. They are both very good.

If you liked one, you will probably like the other. They both start off as cute and funny shoujos, but slowly draw you into a much darker, more complex, psychological plotline. They also have similar themes (eg. loneliness, mental illness, family, friendship).

shoujo-romance mangas which are also humorous in which the female leads are hard workers who do not give up, and the male leads excel at what they do, they had difficult childhood and are not living with their biological parents, they also have unique friends who are attached to them(Kuromine in VB Rose reminds me of Asaba in Kare Kano) there are also many other characters, both the stories are about day to day events and activities which is quite fun to read.

In both mangas, the female leads have strong and bold characters with hidden secrets and the male leads are quite shy and sporty. when the story develops other characters pops up and from there on we see the plot moving. Both stories have dark pasts that the main characters overcomes at the end.

Sekirara ni Kiss addpermalink

Both stories start off with female leads who try act perfect among their classmates. After meeting a guy, they both drop their masks and act like their real selves. Whereas Sekirara ni Kiss has the two leads begin with a friendly relationship, Kareshi Kanojo has the leads sparring.

Note that IgsG is BL and Kare Kano is regular Shoujo, but both get really deeply into the characters and their psychological issues. The male lead of Kare Kano and the uke in IgsG have similar issues dealing with disassociation and acceptance their true selves, and both go through a process of growth and healing after meeting someone. These two manga really reminded me of each other.

Both manga feature a female who is seemingly perfect in public but are actually lazy, messy, and dress unfashionably at home. Both manga are different, but they have the similarity of dealing with issues about relationships and people's true feelings and their true selves.

Both are similar genres (slice of life, romance, drama), although the relationship conflict in each stems from different things - in Kare Kano it's more centered around personal issues, while Sunadokei is about the relationship itself and is more of a love triangle dynamic. In addition to this, they both have a lot of character development, and both appear to be typical shoujos but actually cover quite heavy topics (family issues, mental illness, loneliness, etc). If you like one you will probably like the other as well.

Both of them are set in a school setting. The boy and the boy are both top students in their class and they would always compete with each other for the top spot. WIth that, a budding romance starts! Both of them are really cute and sweet and tehy both delve into the issue of what they want to be when they grow up.

Some people may not agree, but I like these two manga because they can be both funny and serious (although Kare Kano is more serious while School Rumble is funnier) and they don't just focus on the main characters or one love triangle, but multiple characters, such as the main character's friends and their love/issues.

Main characters in high school where they find themselves and really build friendships and bonds. Time skip at the end where you get to see how everyone turns out. The vibe really is similar where you watch the characters grow and change into something. After reading both of these, I get a feeling of nostalgia that's unique to both of them

The first chapter of the Nostalgia volume is clearly linked to Karekano, as it regains the plot and characters of a sci-fi story written by Aya and used in the theatrical school show performed by Yukino, Maho, & Tsubasa.
If you wish to see Aya's story in a different and more complete way, don't miss Nostalgia.

Both are shoujo manga, set at school, of the romance-drama-slice of life genres, in which the main girl puts up a fake personality at school, and meets a guy who notices that she is simply acting. He discovers her true personality and their relationship, which started as schoolmates, develops in friends-more than friends-dating-lovers.

Both have very similar main male characters - Chiaki and Arima are very similar in terms of character, weakness and humour. Kare Kano has more romance straight off the bat whereas Nodame Cantabile has a more realistic take on romance and their relationship. Both couples have problems for similar reasons - although Kare Kano certainly has a darker  feel to it.

High school romances with equal amounts of humour and drama. The main couple are an odd fit but seem to work well together, until aquaintances and past troubles start to interfere. Marmalade Boy doesn't get quite as "dark" as Kare Kano, but otherwise they're the same kind of story.

Karekano has more drama, but still, both are cute school comedies with lovely art.

Basically, both manga narrate of school life, and are great at doing so.
Even though Karekano is more romantic, while Life focuses on friendship, both series have lots of character development. Life is a strong, shocking psychological drama and has very few light-hearted moments, but Karekano also gets pretty dramatic and serious at times. Plus, the subject of bullism is touched in both series (constantly in Life, only for a short time in Karekano).
Both manga have impressive art styles and are totally worth reading. If you're sick of dull, overused, happy-go-lucky shoujo manga, try these two.

Karekano and Saruyama both follow the progression and development of a couple over the course of highschool. There is not much outside jealousy/rivalry in both series and both have significant family drama. Overall, karekano is more serious of a manga but saruyama and karekano share many underlying themes.

What is the secret fascination of the possibility of a dual life?  Personally, I think it's our earnest hope that public overachievers (whether the straight A student at school or the Victoria Secret model) are secretly slobs like the majority of us are, and as such are less than perfect.  So it's probably no surprise to see this as a common theme for the protagonist of both Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou (KareKano) and Himouto.  By day (and in public) their as alpha as can be, while at night (and at home) they live a life of no standards.

Both series start off being about characters who put up a false front in public and have to learn how to be themselves. Kare Kano heads in a somewhat dark direction as it explores the repercussions of a situation like that, while Shugo Chara! heads in a magical girl direction for a happier, more positive tone.

Both series centre around the slightly awkward but sweetly earnest relationship that unfolds between two students over the time they spend in high school together, and is made up of unconventional discussions about the relationship as much as it is actually doing anything about it. Kare Kano explores the depths of angst and dramatics the situation allows whereas Love Roma's a lot milder about everything, but they both have a very similar feel in the way the main couple interacts and how their relationship unfolds.

Both Sano (hana-kimi) and Arima (kare kano) to me are very similar the way they look and act and how are keeping all their family problems to themselves until they meet Mizuki (hana kimi) Yukino (kare kano) who i also think act alike because they are both really dense but very kind. Both Hana-kimi and kare kano are really good drama, romantic comedies I really enjoyed both these mangas :)

Both about a boy and a girl and how one or both of them is hiding their true self from the rest of the students at the school to keep up a good image. As the story goes on they start to show their true self thanks to support from eachother. Both are funny but kare kano is more dramatic. Both are good :)

Both are a shoujo manga about a boy and a girl that are admired, and the boy finds out the girl's image is a complete sham. Gakuen Joou is a one shot, Kare Kano has 21 volumes.
