THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

Well the segment of Alisha this episode after meeting the others is quite similar to the OVA.

Rest of the episode is what I liked with the character focus. Alisha still has some PTSD moments as well. Sorey already developed some trust with Alisha too. What a bro. Lunarre scares me this episode D: feels like he's even stronger than before. Beautiful ending imo.

I love all the changes they did!

Alisha begging the seraphim and describing the situation in "the world below" instead of being clueless about pretty much everything.

Alisha suffering from her PTSD which gives her as a person and the fate of the world more weight

The fight against Mr. Foxy which was awesome. In this version Sorey truly puts up a fight and I loved it.

Mason didn't die. I thought his death in the game was a little bit out of place and unnecessary.

Overall they managed to tie a good amount of characterization and backstory for Alisha into a better version of the meeting with Sorey. A really solid set up for what awaits us in Ladylake and from what I've heard the great changes continue there.

The show is pretty good so far, but I'm really concerned if they conclude the story with only 12 episodes. I mean even with 26 episodes, Tales of Abyss felt extremely rushed during it's 2nd half of the show.

I'm shocked. I thought I would see Maizen die for the third time. Once in the game, another in the ova, and another in this episode.

Anyway, I hope the pace picks up soon enough. Still, good episode.

Good episode, Interesting that normal humans can't see Seraphim. Though if they lived together in the past then something must have happened that impede's the human ability to see Seraphim.

Alisha still suffering from the previous events, Sad the Seraphim didn't wanna help her :(
I liked the little part where Alisha told Sorey to stop hinting that the Seraphim were here, Shows how much she believes in those celestial records despite claiming that everything was just a fantasy .

The fox-guy showed up, That was quite random. How did he even find the place and know where to look for Alisha?

The ending scene was absolutely stunning, "So this is the world" , It looked beautiful.
Every episode I watch tempts me to play the game XD

Holy shit, this episode was perfect 10/10+.

That action scene was so intense and bad ass.

And Mason! He wasn't eaten!

And is this Mikleo's 'tsundere' moment?

Very happy about this episode.

Well there was Prologue, which some call episode 0 and some call it episode 1. Then there was episode 1 and this is 2. This is for the latest episode.

Okay, pacing is a tad slow but in that case I'm feeling like it's a good thing, at least so far. I'm just hoping that this doesn't lead to pacing issues down the line, as so often seems to happen when something starts slow.

So this episode finished the rest of the OVA if I'm not mistaken, but I like the changes they made in this compared to the OVA. The fight seemed a lot more intense and badass in this version. And thankfully Mason didn't die because these guys probably would have started celebrating with fireworks again lol. Can't wait to see the continuation of their journey. Like the person above me said, it would be a shocker if Sorey didn't pull the sword out.

This episode was quite similar yet different from the OVA. I liked how they did it though^^ We got to see more development in Alisha and that she's not just a character with how coping with the tragedy she experienced. It was also nice seeing that she truly does believe in the Seraphim (and even in the end, she said she feels their presence! Yay!). Also, old Gramps and the rest of the Seraphim seems to have taken a liking to her. ^^

The fight scene was also done differently than the OVA but, again, I like the change. The graphics were stunning as well. Seems like the bad guy is looking for Alisha!

By the end, Sorey and Milkeo know that she's no ordinary knight and that the Hyuoma is most likely looking for her. I'd like to see a confrontation of him and Alisha to see her fighting skills once again! Both Sorey and Mikleo go search for her. I'm excited to see how their journey goes!

This. All this. I love every little change they've made. Mason dying was not handled well in the game nor in the OVA. It was too sudden and had little to no impact overall, so it just felt unnecessary. Cutting it out entirely in favor of a "beat-up but healed"scenario was much better.

Alisha already has 10x the characterization in the anime that she does in the game. She was just so clueless at the start and it was frustrating. This episode + the prologue episode 0 have done a ton of good in helping this world down below Esyria develop a sense of danger that the game never did a good job of developing.

Can't wait for the LadyLake events to take place and for Lailah to join the party, which hopefully they will get to next episode. But I wouldn't be surprised if it ended in the church when

And the plot finally starts. Alisha leaves Elysia and Sorey and Mikleo are going to participate in that event of the sword. That fight again the fox dude was badass.

Props to the old seraph, by the previous episode he seemed to be a close minded individual, but he was cool in this episode.

Wonder how this will turn. 100% sure Sorey will be the Shepherd.

Damn, it really does. Someone at MAL Rewrite needs to get on that pronto. Sure, it may be 100% obvious that he pulls the sword out anyway, but for it to be in the synopsis is still really unfitting imo.

Gureito changes.

The OVA left me scratching my head in confusion more than once as too little was explained and many of the characters' reactions were clashing severly with the seriousness of the events befalling them. There's Mikleo x Sorey bait sprinkled everywhere throughout the episode and my inner fujoshi loves it, but even without the shipping goggles on it's not hard to find their bromance endearing (the little skits at the end of each episode are a true blessing, btw).
Alisha is beffitingly disturbed as opposed to amused upon realizing the fabled village where Seraphim allegedly live is completely empty, and overall she -as well as everyone else- responds much more organically to her new environment. She beseechs the Seraphim to come forward to help and goes through a period of doubt and despair when her prayers remain unanswered, and yet she never writes off Sorey's weird behaviour as that of some kind of delusional fool who spent too much time on his own and is now conjuring imaginary friends up his butt. It's also wholly satisfying to see her slowly come to the realization that she is surrounded by the presence of the Elysia's inhabitants, because it explains why she keeps having faith in the Shepherd's advent -as she leaves determined as ever to go back to the Capital in time for the Sacred Blade Fest. Actually, her faith in the existence of higher beings might even be part of the reason why she's somewhat able to sense them in the first place.

Of course the Mason situation needs no explanation: the poor sod whose untimely and unceremonious death was mourned with fucking fireworks in the OVA actually gets to live! And that's not even mentionning how much prettier the Hyouma v. Mikleo and Sorey fight scene was.

If the game was half as disappointing as the original OVA seemed to suggest and if ufotable keep cleaning up and improving on the messier parts of the source material, then I'm confident thatt if not a great fantasy anime, it will at least turn out be a pretty damn good one, and an excellent adaptation in its own right.

It's going to be a split-cour so we're going to have 25+ eps. It seems they're going to make lots of changes throughout the series like this ep so i'm pretty sure they will be able to conclude it with 25 eps.

Alisha with her hair down look stunning.

So I guess the story is finally about to get moving now that the major players are starting up. Also leave it to Ufo to have a 2 minute fight scene that looks absolutely gorgeous and feel like how a fight would go in a fantasy setting.

Definitely better then the game so far, Alisha might have gotten more character development in these 3 episodes then she did in the entire game.

Liked the short fight with Lunarre as well and the animation is just so beautiful all around.

Also warming up to the opening almost like it as much as the games opening now.

Story-wise this is certainly far better than the game so far, even if its just baby steps in terms of taking out some very awkward things.

Alas those alterations can't exactly fix the cookie-cutter annoying bro MCs. They continue being just as annoying as in the game. Really makes me wish Alisha was the sole protag and Sorey never existed. And while scenes are better in terms of changes from the game, the overall lore is still a shaky generic mess and the badguys are still unbearably typical and one dimensional "HEHEHEHEHE" type of creeps. I guess there are some things you just can't fix about Zestria if ever.

The CGI backgrounds literally make me feel bad. In few moments where you have actually drawn backgrounds it looks great. And then it transitions into awful CGI ground and WHYY. Seriously it baffles me on why they need to make every rock and building a cgi object. It looks horrible.

Directing wise it wasa bit better than previous episodes but the show still does not have anything creative in terms of cinematography. Its very "plain" looking show.

The fights are still bearable albeit the fight this episode is way worse in terms of choreography when compared to the prologue fight. This was very safe and typical Ufo style of "let's throw random sfx explosions on the screen" kind of action that feels kind of dull and tries to overwhelm you with explosions and bright flashes at the screen. The only decent shot was where the MC hit the evil-guy in the gut and pushed him backward into the stone. That had a nice bit of impact. But everything else was quite meh even for ufo standards so far.

An okay episode overall, still weighed down by the mediocrity of Zestria and the safeness of Ufo's approach towards everything they do nowadays. 3/5.

Finally glad we are getting on with the story, i still prefer the special and prequel though because they have tons more content and the series left a lot of and changed a few things, although there were parts i liked.

1 part bugs me though, hyouma = Hellion and didn't see the devour scene instead he was saved this time. Oh and the fact that the battle happen AFTER Alisha left the village.

Also to my understanding it will be a split cour? good cause i felt 12 was way too short.

Holy shit! Those changes though...I was surprised when Alisha asked for help from the seraphims because in the game, she was pretty much quiet and clueless throughout that part.

Also, Mason managed to get away? Hmm....

Next episode, I'm going to go in blind because this is where I stopped playing the game. I just felt bored I guess.
