What the fuck? brandon barely fucking talks, it's like he's a silent protagonist, and that doesn't mix with anime.

I really like the ending/song, though.

Ok, that was MUCH better than the first episode, God it makes the first episode look even more lame in context of the series.

Once again, the first episode was necessary IMO.

And Brandon's silence, though a little akward, is fitting. He's a man of action, not words.

Lol. I thought he was going to rape that cook guy. The ending song is good.

Much better than the first episode. It reminds me of Cowboy Bebop in a way, if they'd shown us the years when Spike and Vicious were together I imagine it to be like this.

Brandon talks too little. Unexpected. But it's a little too much silence.
I liked how the friendships were portrayed.

God damn, so much fighting for a single episode. Also at first I thought Brandon is mute, he later surprised me lol.

What a twist! They saved Kenny but it ends up that their other friend died.

Nice background story actually. And at first, I really thought Brandon can't talk. And I was wondering how can he court Maria. Haha. Good thing he can. Just a man of VERY few words..

And Harry's proposal to Milanda! So hilarious when he was turned down..

Nice improvement over the first episode while still nothing to write home about this episode was a step in the right direction, and what a catchy ending theme.

Ah yes, that was a much better episode. Saw it coming that the one guy who doesn't do any fighting is the one that ends up killed. Only the good die young after all : /

First minute of this episode did more for me than the entire first episode. Just a bunch of fellas getting into trouble while scraping by in the slums. A mostly fun episode barring that ending. Damn, cheap move to go for the peace loving chef.

The slow pace is refreshing! It gives me time to absorb the atmosphere and characters' personalities. It is for things like this (e.g. Texhnolyze and Casshern Sins) that I come to Madhouse.

Ah yes the flashback half, the best part of the series. I would argue they should have started with this episode.

What a good first second episode. That had so much style I loved it, in directing, music, portrayal of the cast, action, atmosphere, like everything. In such short time it really accomplished getting their friendship across to truly let us understand what losing one of their friends would mean. Not enough to make the audience sympathize, but enough to get the point across. Not making Brandon mute, but making him awkwardly never talk is a weird decision. Unless I'm wrong, he did speak to Maria.
That ending theme is awesome. Sadly when I youtubed it I saw a massive spoiler, so be warned.

This was somewhat better from episode 1, although I REALLY don't like some of the character designs, their eyes look like out of a 80s shoujo manga.

So far, so good. Wouldn't consider it great yet, but it's pretty cool and I'm intrigued to see how things will develop.

Now I get the nonsense of first episode this series has, but still not sold.
No tomo malas decisiones, solo me gusta apoyar causas perdidas.

This was way better than the first episode, though if it's going to end up being anything like Trigun I expect to be left feeling a little unfulfilled.

I think the strongest element between both shows is the amount of emphasis that's been placed on the locales. It's a really good way of handling worldbuilding (especially since the backgrounds are so gorgeous to begin with), but I never felt like Trigun managed to capitalise on the sense of wonderment and history that came with it's setting. The same seems to be on display here. That scene where Brandon and his gang were overlooking the horizon was extremely evocative and melancholic, but it isn't as impactful as it could be, since I don't think we'll ever learn how their city came to be such a corrupt hellhole.

Brandon seems like an alright character so far, but I'm frustrated by how absent his personality is. It's obvious that the best way for him to survive in his situation is to keep his mouth shut, but he goes way too far with the idea. It's a little preemptive for me to write his character off as being uninteresting, but the only way a stoic character like his can work is to have a considerable amount of introspection.

I felt the pacing was a bit slow most of the episode, but that ending! The subversion of the scene was beautiful!

Hm it's totally different than EP 1 I see, the mafia/thugs aspect is interesting and I guess it's what is going to push some characters like Brandon to eventually go crazy or totally change later because of how hardcore this life style is, poor guy died while cooking

Great series, great episode. Massively underrated. I remember when they were pushing this, charging $30 for three episodes.

Oh no, this was on Toonami in 2007!? Mother-fuckers, that's appalling. Of course they put it on YEARS later when I wasn't even watching.

Goddamnit. Great show so far, this little town feel and lil' gangster blues is just like a James Cagney movie, Cagney could've played the secondary protag/antag if you count his whole career.

Seems like a classic gangster bit with sci-fi cyberpunk so far, very nice. Colors pop in the remaster.

And it heads right back to the past. The town still looks as dilapidated and barren as it did in Episode 1, and the only thing it's dealing with at this point is insubstanial small-time local gang wars. Piques my curiosity to find out how it got infested with Orgmen in the future.

I should mention that the eye design in this anime is hilarious. Some of the guys have sharp and semi-realistic eyes fitting with the general artstyle of this series, while the others have large and colourful kawaii eyes that don't seem to fit the aesthetic of the rest of their face. Makes for a really bizarre disparity in facial visuals.
