It was disclosed today that the anime adaptation of extra character routes in "Little Busters! EX" will be released as an extra disc bundled in each volume of the BD/DVD for "Little Busters! Refrain." The first volume of Refrain's BD/DVD will be on sale January 29, 2014 and will contain the first episode of Saya's route.

According to content details from Amazon Japan, Saya's route will contain four episodes with "Little Busters! EX" having eight episodes altogether. There will be one episode of EX in every volume except in the final volume (vol.7), which will contain two episodes.

So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

So Refrain is only 13 eps? I may pick it up now. Wasn't a fan of the first season and I didn't want to spend 20+ weeks watching something I didn't like, but 13 eps is doable.

Also, I wasn't expecting episode 1 will be already Saya's arc. I was expecting that would be after Kanata's and Sasami's since those are post-Refrain and Saya's is totally a whole new story.

First volume is always the most important to sell well since it has the highest potential and is a lasting first impression to the Production Committee. Putting the most popular girls route in the first volume is a surefire way to boost sales more than Kanata or Sasami.

Good point. Well, since they decide to release them as OVAs.

Refrain will only be 13 episodes, huh? I suppose 10 episodes to cover Rin 1 and Rin 2 along with Refrain might be enough. There's definitely going to be detail missing, but that's obvious considering it was originally a visual novel. The important parts should be communicated across just fine, but I suppose we'll wait and see.

I'm surprised that Saya's route is up first in EX. I think 4 episodes might actually be doable, considering the majority of the time spent on her route is going through the maze and playing the shooting games. I'm more that concerned they won't animate the funniest parts of Saya's route,

I think I'll play through Saya's route in the visual novel again just for fun. At least there's plenty of other funny parts with Saya though, and I can't wait to hear Sakurai Harumi as Saya again :D Looking forward to see how Refrain and EX turn out!

They won't do Rin1(At least on how it was ended if that's what you meant).

Either way, as long as they can summarize the important events in Refrain and everything else that gets to that point, I feel that will be enough. A lot of people make the mistake of making a direct comparison of the original visual novel to the anime, even though they are two separate forms of media. I would be satisfied enough just to see JC Staff execute Little Busters to the best they can while retaining as much detail as possible.

I don't know how I feel about Refrain being 13 episodes, but the way they're setting up the EX season is kind of odd, especially since they are starting with Saya's route(With only 4 episodes? Do they know how long her route is?), I just hope that JC Staff knows what they're doing.

EDIT: Oh fuck it, I'm worried as hell, why are they doing this, just when I had hope that they wouldn't butcher things, I hear this, I'm scared ;_;

Based on what people have said about the length of Refrain in the VN, this kind of seems like a death sentence for the show.

I would say that making those 26 episodes might be considered death sentence - sure there are some things important for character development but it would drag the story too much.
While giving 3 episodes for Rin2 should give enough time for Refrain as it was rather short and some things might be removed without any problems.

And as for EX nice idea, for sure it will help in selling more copies of DVD so it's good.

Giving it 26 episodes would make Refrain have around the same amount of episodes as After Story did (just those specific routes), and Refrain has more total lines. So unless you think that Clannad: After Story being 2 cour was its death sentence, then it could only get better by being 2 cour.

Second part of C:AS was pretty shitty honestly - I liked that they have shown how lives of everyone changes after becoming adults but after

Now with Refrain - there are few things which might be removed in my oppinion /VN spoilers here/

LOL?! Did you even play the VN. That has nothing to do with shortening Refrain. Hell, that wouldn't even make an impact.

Not optimistic about Refrain... the fact that they've done Kurugaya's route and are planning to do Rin's route in the same show means that Refrain will get way less than 13 episodes worth of devotion.

As for the EX heroine... kind of hope Saya would be last (always save the best for last). However, with only 4 episodes for her, and 2 episodes for the other girls, I don't see how they can pull this one off.

Thanks, person who gave me this on another site a long time ago, lol.

Not liking the story doesn't really relate to whether it could be better told with one or two cour.

Did I mention Refrain?! Let me explain in a way you can understand: I'm waiting for EX. I don't care too much about Refrain. If EX were broadcast on TV, it wouldn't be the same thing. I was only talking about the next arc debut in DVD and nothing about shortening.

I've been holding off on reading the visual novel because I wanted to finish the anime first. Now I'm reading that 13 episodes might not be enough to do Refrain justice. Maybe I'll just go ahead and start the visual novel now...

On what way EX routes are more "adult"? Obviously excluding the H-scenes since they aren't really in the story.

You know what I think? I think, they should have totally gone for 17 episodes, following Kokoro Connect's anime adaptation route. That way, everything can be covered properly.

(Btw I haven't read the VN , just watched the anime. Saw people bickering so pointed out)

Anyways, my body is ready for whatever is to come

To anyone who has not played Refrain yet, don't worry. Everyone here who is complaining it will be butchered has to realize that they ALWAYS cut out content from the VN, and Refrain has a lot of repeated scenes from another character's point of view.

It can easily be done in six or so episodes. I'm guessing Rin will be from 4-6, with Refrain being 7-13. The giant tragedy that every Key adaption has (like
in Clannad AS) happens very close to the end, and could probably be in episode ten or eleven. Maybe even twelve. I'm sure that everything important and emotional will be in here and that it will be a great season.

But one thing: can anyone point me to the source that confirms Refrain for thirteen episodes?

Mod Edit: Not quite everyone has watched Clannad AS yet so spoiler tags added.

Damn! What a disappointment for Refrain to be 1 cour. Even more disappointed with EX having only 8 episodes. -______-

I guess from now on I'll just stick to KEY's VNs and not their anime adaptation cos things are always rushed during adaptation.

Well, that was underwhelming, being shortened to 13 episodes, at least for me...But Saya being shown first than Sasami or Kanata? Quite the marketing strategy there.

With that 9600yen price tag and 13 episodes Refrain, JC Staff/Warner will have to not disappoint come Rin and Refrain routes in order to get those sales.
I'm excited and hopeful that there's an overall quality increase in terms of precise writing, screenplay, and maybe animation in the upcoming arcs.
