I actually didn't cry as much as I was expecting. She just ... died.
The part where Tomoya started thinking "We should never have met." was when I started tearing up, and then of course, Torch killed it.

This was such a sad episode ;_;
I agree with Annisa, the part where Tomoya thought "We should have never met" was like BAM. When she died, it was more of a resolution to the suspense, per-say

I can only hope the doctor gets there and resuscitate Nagisa. The next episode preview seemed pretty bleak though.

I was trying to tell myself not to cry, but the unsettling emotion in this episode made me break down in tears. Not exactly at the point of Nagisa's death, because I was expecting that.. but when Tomoya is looking back and talking about how he had gone through hard times until finally he had found a dream to believe in. That just shattered me!
Although, I expected nothing less. The event has been foreshadowed so many times in previous episodes...this was bound to happen.
HOWEVER,
Theres no way that this series, so highly regarded and anticipated by millions, will have the same conclusion as the movie. Just wait, tough it out these next few episodes, and see for yourself.
Whether or not thats just my wishful thinking, I have faith in this story.

Sad, but could have been sadder. Nagisa's death was KyoAni's chance to be the great studio that they are. Compared with other great moments in Key storylines, Kyoto Animation's depiction of Nagisa's death seems... uninspired. Instead of pure grief, we get negativity from Tomoya, which would not have been what I would have imagined but I guess it works. The thing is that she just died. Nagisa DIED. What do we get? Flashbacks and a high brightness effect. I didn't even cry. I was more upset than anything. Nagisa died to this? Then Torch KILLS it. I would have, I'm speaking out of the top of my mind here, used Palm of a Tiny Hand as an insert song at the end and closed with no ED, but that's a moot point since I obviously am not a trained director. I'm just saying.

I love Nagisa. She's a great character. It's just too bad her death seems like more of a letdown than a tragedy...

Oh, here's what I'm talking about

God...damnit. I was hoping. Hoping for this whole season that this wouldn't happen. I've been avoiding spoilers for this series like crazy hoping that Nagisa wouldn't die. Arg.

When they were talking about many different worlds where the possibilities are different... I was seriously hoping they would take a different approach to the series as the movie did.

This is what I'm thinking will happen, for sure. Something has to give! This series cant possibly follow the exact plot of the movie. Its been too gorgeous of a story for it to keep the death of the most cherished character permanent. I'm definitely predicting a happy ending.

I actually didn't mind the death scene...
I think her death by itself was enough to make someone cry without being dramatic...
And that this did a good job at portraying Tomoya's confused, frightened emotions that he was probably too overwhelmed to even grasp. It seemed... realistic.

And the vid you posted would have made the perfect ending song^.^

As much as I adore that song, I don't think they should play it yet. That song was, after all, played during the credits after the "True End" in the visual novel, and as such, if the anime is to use it, it pretty much HAS to be the ending-theme for the final episode. Actually, I'll probably go into a fit of FANBOY RAGE if they don't use it then.

It was really obvious that something sad would happen. Maybe she just passed out though. I wonder what they're gonna do with the next episodes. We're just at 16...

I didn't cry since I don't like Nagisa very much.

agree with this word for word

the way the movie dealt with the death scene was much more emotionally provocative

Personally I think the anime portrayal of the scene was better than the movie, though the VN version surpasses both (in terms of direction and sheer tear-jerking).

Yeah same here but I have been slaving the past two years to purge them from my mind as if I were playing The Game (oops I just lost hehe). Plus, I was hoping for KyoAni to do an alternate ending.

I refuse to believe this is how it will turn out. I refuse to have Nagisa out of my life. Out of TOMOYA's life.

KyoAni, please make us happy. There HAS to be a reason for that damn other world, that robot and girl. The orbs, everything Kotomi was talking about. A MIRACLE MUST HAPPEN. I don't even want to type anymore, I'm fucking crying my eyes out. This ruins my week. This ruins me, I refuse to talk to anyone...omg. Nagisaa!!!!

Neither did I, they could've pulled it off a lot better, and playing the upbeat ending right after that killed the mood too.

Hmmm the event was definitely not as well depicted as in the game or even the movie (Ishihara is still far to be at Dezaki's level though, it figures). And finally, the very long introduction's ended, the true scenario's (and subsequent themes) beginning now :)

Man, I watched it again with ss-eclipse...
It almost killed me, too way depressing and tear-jerking.
And I still can't believe it REALLY happened...
Next weeks are gonna be a pain for me.
But there are 8 episodes left, I really wonder what will happen.

Wow. I'm just hoping that KyoAni can make this a happy ending somehow. Everything in this episode was amazing, from Kotomi in kimono to Nagisa's death (plz don't be a death). I never really liked Nagisa much until After Story, and now I'm in disbelief.

Another tear-jerker episode. With my experience with season one and Kanon, I've come to expect this from Key/KyoAni. When Nagisa was dying, I found myself ignoring Tomoya and just kept whispering "no" to myself over and over. Episodes like this make me wish I could have played the game before watching the series, but alas there's no usable translation patch yet. :(

As to bringing her back/"true end", here's my thoughts on it:

I'm quite surprised that she died still quite early in the series. I'm assuming the end of the series will have to do with the imaginary world bringing her back or something.

You know it's coming, you know you can't avoid it and you do everything you can to prepare yourself for it but as soon as it happens you know...nothing can prepare you for something this sad.

Being a father myself, having witnessed the wonder of birth firsthand I can somehow understand the sort of despair Tomoya must have been in during the birth, but the mother (your wife) dying while giving birth? I wouldn't wish that to my worst enemy.

Although I did notice they don't actually show Nagisa being confirmed death in this episode so I'm still hoping something might happen and that she survives, maybe in coma or anything...but that's just me being optimistic...

Clannad is always in need for some more Fuko and some more Kyou. Tomoya should get married to Kyou and they can raise Ushio together. Then have a purple haired beast also.

Yeah i would like to see Fuko, especialy after this.... I realy hope that there is funny/happy episodes still left

The animation was 5/5 again and whole episode was good (SUNOHARA WUHUU!), but even tought clannad is great show and the episode was 5/5, still i dont realy like this kind of episodes. Nagisa should have lived. I like happy endings.

Yeah, depressing episode. It seems that the show is going down the movie path with Nagisa's death.
And yeah, the ED HAS to change.

Bold prediction: More Tomoya's father, Ushio gets abandoned, they don't change the ED.

Going against the masses and saying I didn't like the ending of this episode. The fact that it wasn't in the hospital makes me feel like maybe something could have been done if they had been...I hate snow. I also dislike the fact they REALLY focused on tomoya bugging out and blurred/whitened the background, I felt so disconnected from nagisa's parents, if I had seen sanae's reaction I probably would have cried rivers...two of them. Thought the way the movie did it was better but oh well...it wasn't as sad as I thought it could have been...I even thought they might let her live, but I didn't shed a tear for nagisa (was still very sad though) but the movie definitely hit me much harder...
