So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

That's not a fair comparison though. In its first week (which is last week) the OP sold 8651 and this week the ED sold 3911 in its first week.

Nothing is bad for being in any genre or demographic, especially anime for kids.

HaMaou 2 still manages to hit 10k, nice.
Would've liked Aiura to hit at least 2k... but not far off.
Madoka Movies hits 94k... I hope it'll reach 100k, but it'll probably not happen until the 3rd movie is released in theatres.

Was hoping for better here for Aiura, at least Teekyuu levels... ah well.

And poor Kotoura-san not even 1K again... :'(

61, *1,468 **1,468 Teekyuu2 theme song "Menimeni Manimani"
74, *1,232 **1,232 Stella Jogakuin Koutou-ka C³-bu OP "Shape My Story"

CD Album
10, 8,499 **8,499 Girls und Panzer Fandisk CD "Deep Panzer CD desu!"
32, 2,912 *42,046 Shingeki no Kyojin Original Soundtrack

Teekyuu 2 OP is great, includes two audio drama 'longs' longer than their usual 2 minute episodes. There are 2 bonus episodes on the BD for Teekyuu2 and I bet those two audio dramas were also animated. I hope they are full length!

Was hoping Stella C3 bu discs would sell better... I enjoy them!

Cutie Panther is a solid single and the audio drama (mini) is great too. Glad to see it break 20K.

Preserved Roses still selling, was out of stock at amazon for a while.

Kamasama inai no Nichiyoubi ED is really well done, good for Mikako Komatsu. Wondering if it will end up on her next album so haven't bought the single myself yet.

GuP disc selling well for what it is. I think it's really good even though much is just audio from the BDs.

And Shingeki OST must be one of the best selling anime OSTs. Too bad the 2nd one is BD bonus only as I'm not buying that series...

How many volumes do short anime need to sell to roughly break even?

http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=643523&show=240#msg24232825 Sales for recent short anime. Aiura will hit 2k next week (whether the thresholds are low enough that we actually see it is another question) so putting it at "not bad" for a short show.

Break-even is a problematic concept when talking about anime disc sales because the majority of a franchise's revenue is usually not from disc sales. For a series to actually break even (i.e. cover all production costs) on disc sales alone requires pretty high sales.

Since we don't know much about the other revenue streams, I'd guess 2k is "probably okay" for Aiura, as long as it also sold some extra manga and other stuff. Recorder to Randoseru went three cour without ever ranking, Morita-san got two cour without ever hitting 1k, Teekyuu got a sequel at not much more than Aiura, etc.

Thanks for that link. I guess it all really goes a lot deeper than just disk sales.

Hell yes! Splash Free is selling yell and same with the Kamisama no Inai OP. Both are very, very good and catchy songs. SnK is still running strong and even though I didn't care for Maou-sama, it's sales are pretty good too and possibly high enough to create a second season. It just seems like the type of show that would get one as well.

I find this one pretty amazing. So it has been 10 years and I am sure even now there are some dedicated fans for this anime!

From the description of the CD it says the sound effect of the tank action is stunning Hi Fi quality. I guess you can tell us how true it is ;-)

The tank shell explosions are stunning indeed, especially if you aren't expecting them! They could wake the dead! LOL

Of course the BD tracks are theoretically better, being 48-KHz 24-bit 2.1 (separate subwoofer track) compared to 44-KHz 16-bit 2-channel CD audio but with good headphones the CD sounds good to me while my Sony liquid speakers on my 5.1 home theatre have people thinking that WWII has started (again) when I watch the Blurays.

I hope someone translates the Peeping Life Collab of Tezuka and Tatsunoko Pro. It may be nostalgic and all, and I doubt it would interest younger audiences, but ... it's like going home, you know :)

Isn't that Umi from Love Live's voice actress? She seems to be getting really popular really fast as I hear the name dropped a lot and it's like every time I'm linked to a Japanese variety show talking about anime she's there as the guest host reacting in the corner window. She sort of has that lady voice thing going on that I'm liking with some new female VA's like Sachikawa Misawa, Yoko Hikasa and Aya Endo to name a few.

Yes, I wonder if she has any roles in video games, I definitely want to see some radio shows with her about video games.

Indeed she is Umi. The trend for seiyuu these days is idolization and pretty much Mimori is in the vanguard of the trend. She does not just sing and dance in 2.5D (Love Live) or do the standard seiyuu radio show and fan events, but venture out to do TV drama, variety shows and modelling in gravure photo albums and BD/DVD like this one. The days where a seiyuu only needs to use his/her voice for the trade are gone. These days one needs to win fans on multiple fronts even though their voice-acting performance is still critical.

Ummmm.... I know she was in this but I like to joke that you only know you've really made it in the anime scene when you've been in a Tales of game.

That's going to make it even tougher for a lot of people then. Personally I don't think you should have to be really attractive in order to be seen as a desirable voice actor/actress, but hey that's sort of the direction anime has been headed in for a while on a meta level. It's hard not to notice how much anime follows the beauty=goodness trope and how even when at first it doesn't appear to be the case you can always pick out the sympathetic villain or the one that is going to switch sides in a group based on appearance alone 9 times out of 10.

But wait though, are you saying that Love Live uses some form of motion capture or is there something I'm missing here. Do fans in Japan equate the Love Live characters with their voice actress and vice versa or something then.

Some more information about the Previous single and the Gravure BD/DVD

Yes, Mimori is the next generation of seiyuu who is also an idol, singer, movie star, model, MC, etc.

So the next generation of idols can do almost anything in the entertainment business, I'm surprised this hasn't started earlier.

Hmm.. Idols can do (or are asked to do) almost anything in the entertainment business and this has not changed. The difference is the next generation of SEIYUU is becoming idols, thus they now can be seen to do many things in the entertainment business.

Hopefully the next generation of seiyuu get compensated better (talk about stressful things will be 2-5 years from now), but from the looks of things, I doubt it.

With events such a big thing it is really no surprise that they don't want unpresentable or stage shy seiyuu now. Expecting them all to be idol class may be a bit much though Mimorin certainly qualifies IMO.

As if the life of a seiyuu isn't stressful enough already as it is. >_<

Seiyuu aside, great to see that kami inai, genei taiyou and neptune doing well in terms of op/ed sales even though the bd/dvd sales are dim.
