Break-even is a problematic concept when talking about anime disc sales because the majority of a franchise's revenue is usually not from disc sales. For a series to actually break even (i.e. cover all production costs) on disc sales alone requires pretty high sales.

Since we don't know much about the other revenue streams, I'd guess 2k is "probably okay" for Aiura, as long as it also sold some extra manga and other stuff. Recorder to Randoseru went three cour without ever ranking, Morita-san got two cour without ever hitting 1k, Teekyuu got a sequel at not much more than Aiura, etc.

She does not just sing and dance in 2.5D (Love Live) or do the standard seiyuu radio show and fan events, but venture out to do TV drama, variety shows and modelling in gravure photo albums and BD/DVD like this one. The days where a seiyuu only needs to use his/her voice for the trade are gone. These days one needs to win fans on multiple fronts even though their voice-acting performance is still critical.
