I hope they know about each other's feelings from their answers! I'm surprised Kakeru does not know that Naho likes him..? (he was surprised when Suwa said he will make her happy or something like that..)

I think Kakeru is really haunted by his past... I think he might have committed suicide.. I sure hope now that his relationship with Naho is better, things would go well this time..

And yeah Ueda totally deserves that!!!

great chapter. it was nice that the one thing that future Naho wanted to happen at the festival happened great.

and man that Ueda can she stop it already. (good one Hagita nice deflection)

ps: i have more to say but i already said it on the Batoto comment section last chapter, i think my elaboration there is still enough to not comment about both Naho's happiness for a while. until new information of both time is given.

just wanted to say that since ill be commenting on this great series here now.

Fantastic series! I love how even though you want Kakeru to find happiness you still feel bad because you know that in the future Naho has a child with Suwa.

I kind of feel like he will still die, but he'll die in a happier way as oppose to the car crash and him having a fight with Naho.

I think this chapter also has some hints that Kakeru might know about the future. Maybe he is the same case with Naho.

Anyway, hope he will ask her out & start dating.

As I mentioned in previous chapters discussions, I still think Kakeru knows about his own future.
Maybe its just me but hints through the manga:
- he wrote a letter which he buried and unlike everyone he was the only one who didnt talk about his future.
- In one chapter he mentioned: "I´d go to the past. I want to erase my regrets. (...) that would be better than carrying your regrets for a lifetime." (anyone noticed the present tense?)
Naho´s thoughts that follow his speech " Those words of Kakeru´s werent about going forward".
And no, sorry, the theory of suicide does not work for me.
In this chapter another hint while he talks to Suwa:
Kakeru:"Ive done a lot of multiple choices, been wrong and regretted it"
Suwa: "A lot?"
Kakeru: "..." (silence) what multiple choices?! the guy barely did something till now

Clearly Kakeru let slip something to Suwa. Thinking about him, the only problem he caused to Naho was going out with Ueda, yet he is talking like he already did a LOT of things.

Hint number two:
Suwa: "Then you cant do anything and nothing will change"
Kakeru: "If nothing changes its fine" (AKA: its okay if Suwa and Naho still get together in the future).

Basically did you notice who is the person who talks the word"regret" besides Naho every chapter? Its Kakeru. Ill keep my theory that he knows something. It wouldnt be impossible that he also got a future letter like Naho.
Also I think Ueda will be involved in Kakeru´s accident. She doesnt seem to be able to give up on him.

And this still gives me Toki wo kakeru shoujo vibes. (which is a mindfuck anime/manga btw).

Man, if a guy asked me these questions in real life... I would be so happy to answer! :3

Such a cute development. >_<

Why is there still a tragic feeling to this? What's with his past? Nooo. :(

Yeah, I thought it was obvious that he knew that Naho liked him.

Well, that's certainly a nice theory you've got going...
I agree with you wholeheartedly about Kakeru possibly knowing his own futures. The signs all indicate that he knows something, though we can't know for sure if he learns it in the same fashion as Naho just yet.
However, I think his accident pertains to suicide. His demeanor, his way of thinking...sound like depression to me. He clearly regrets some things that have happened in his life that we don't know about. If he also knows about the things that happen in the future already, then that makes the theory of suicide all the more plausible.

As for the multiple choices, remember that Kakeru is a transfer student, and we only know about him what he has told the characters in the past 7 chapters. That time period only spans from about April 6th to July 15th. I believe he is about 16, or 17, I can't remember. So in those three months, what could we really have learned about him in that time? Indeed, there aren't many things that have transpired since he moved to Matsumoto. I'm just not sure to what he is referring.

I, too, think that he wants Suwa and Naho to get together. If he does something in the future to Naho that he regrets, and he is aware of it, this is more likely. He is also very insecure...his personality just seems like the type that doesn't believe he deserves anyone (as in girlfriend) in his life. Which is sad.

Ah, that's what so great about this manga though--even though I'm conspiracy theorizing with you now, when I'm reading the actual chapter, my mind just goes blank. I don't think about anything, I just enjoy it. :>
Still, it's nice to have a manga that actually makes you think.

I thought in suicide too because Kakeru somehow seems to have a dark past, but I think the one who committed suicide was his mom, Kakeru died in a accident right? It does not seem to me he wanted to die when he sent that last text to Naho´s cellphone. (Was it a car accident? was he driving the car or other person was?) But one thing I agree 100% with you: He has a depressive behavior plus low self-esteem.

hehe! theorizing is awesome when someone joins you^.^ Orange is awesome and makes me think... and feel ;___;

Haha, thanks! I've actually been lurking here for a few years and figured it was about time I at least attempted to keep track of what I'm reading. -.-;

Kakeru's mom did commit suicide, yes. And yeah, Kakeru did die in an accident...but what are the circumstances of that "accident"? Hint hint, if you know what I mean. What, you don't? Okay, I mean suicide. It's got to at least be possible, right? With Kakeru's way of thinking, seems to me as though at some point everything just became too much for him and he just decided he was fed up or something...Maybe it wasn't so dramatic, but you get my point. :P
And as for him driving the car, that isn't really possible. The legal driving age in Japan is a minimum of 18, with the exception of vehicles like mopeds. Unless he was walking and was hit by a car. o.o; And...this is also a manga, so who knows...Typically, as this is a slice of life type shoujo and most of its material seems life based, I would think normal rules apply. Pfft, I'm rambling...
Anyway, for that text message, I dunno. I feel like it was Naho's last chance to save him. Like he sent it whilst getting ready to die or something. Though that seems a bit out there? I don't know anymore. T_T I just need to see the next chapter right meow!!

Dude...I have so many feels right now. ಠ_ಠ

If Kakeru is dead in the future (and dead very soon)... how is he communicating with his past self? Also, why wouldn't he try to prevent his own death if he knew it was coming (and was a simple accident)?

If we go with the theory of parallel worlds which was mentioned in an earlier chapter, Kakeru from that timeline might be dead, but another Kakeru might be alive in another parallel world.
So another Kakeru might have sent a letter to his past self or Kakeru might be a time traveller himself. (it was still not mentioned if they found his body in the car). If a letter can timetravel, why not a person?
Perhaps he cannot or does not want to prevent his death because if he does might work like the butterfly effect: you are supposed to die, but you dont, so someone will die in your place. Might be Naho or Suwa.
Also if this goes for parallel worlds, it means there might be another Naho besides the future one we saw. I mean, that Naho everytime she appears she does mention her regrets, but she doesnt mention any letter to her past self or does not show any ability related to send letters to the past, so the letter might had come from a third Naho. *theorizing like crazy*

For those interested,
Actually there are three animes that explain the possibilities of such very well.
Steins;Gate (Parallel worlds)
Toki wo kakeru shoujo (only one world)
Noein (Dimension-Time travelling)

Both use different approaches of time-travelling and that´s why whenever I read something about Time-Travelling I use them as reference.

@Izirae: you´re welcome;) hum, yes, its possible it might have been suicide too, but then...I wonder why;__;
Oh well, let see how it goes!;D

if the "suicide" therory is correct, then he would have written a letter to himself before dying, or something of that sort? ...

I wouldn't want him to commit suicide ...
I feel that Naho will be free of the burden of regretting her past, but the ending might be the same...

Just bought the first volume of this looks good so far for a shojo ~~

Cant remember of the name of the kid who likes the girl but lets Kakeru take her, but I seriously hope he ends with the girl, hes such a nice and adorable character. The author portrays him as super nice and stuff so far so I presume he will be the lucky one in the end, this will be retarded if she ends with Kakeru. The ideal situation is Kakeru being alive but them not being together.

his name is Suwa, and he already ends up with Naho, that future is already set she even has a kid with Suwa in the future already. so ya of course he is nice but to hope he gets her again is kinda defeating the purpose or Naho from the future who is trying to get rid of a regret for her past self. which will more likely create a parallel universe.

I don't see an ending where Kakeru lives yet doesn't end up with Naho.

Anyways, before coming to the discussion, I was actually wondering whether Suwa had written a letter to himself. He seems to be trying very hard to have Kakeru and Naho together, even though he likes her. You'd expect him to at least show some sign about how he feels towards her.
Not sure how I feel about the aforementioned theory that Kakeru sent himself a letter. He does seem to be aware of his future in some form, but ...

I think it would be fair for Kakeru and Naho to end up together. Suwa's already with Naho in one of the timelines and possibly many others ... Though Suwa's definitely a much more likeable character.

I think she will end up with Suwa, I seriously cant see why else the author is portraying him as a nice guy , because if you think about it the drama portion is already gone Suwa isnt going to stop Kakeru or anything, I dont see any reason to make Suwa such a nice person other then something working out for him later. It will be pretty epic though when Naho finds out Suwa likes her. I would like to see more Suwa and Naho in the future if she really does end with Kakeru.

I don't think Kakeru knows his future. I think when he is talking about changing his past regrets he was talking about his mother's suicide, not his possible future interactions with Naho. Her suicide hasn't been touched on at all yet, and he would surely feel massive regret over his mother's death. When he said he would rather go back to the past, i believe it would be to try to stop his mother's suicide (he mentioned something about her not wanting him to join a club - that is an unusual request from a mother) Nobody else has mentioned this theory though....

Well it's obvious that Kakeru knows what's up. I almost feel as though Kakeru has actually time leaped into the past, multiple times - like Steins;Gate and Madoka if you've seen those. But... oh, wait, never mind. Because he's proven to be oblivious to some things like Naho's feelings. Maybe he's a good actor?

I do agree with all of you saying that Kakeru will still die.

T.T hatred for poor Kakeru... I for one kind of hope he doesn't die, I feel like he is extremely Bipolar or just plain depressed... like he needs help. I'm not sure why his mom committed suicide however I don't believe that is the only tragic bit of his past, I actually really do think he needs someone like Naho... I dunno that's just me, usually root for the first main male in a series (or female in the case of shounen/seinen).
